If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

XM radio

When you guys had your amplifier replaced, did you lose any DIS or Radio information?

Getting mine replaced on Thursday, when I return to Florida. It should correct the audio problems I had in the past.

Bob - when I had mine replaced it wiped everything slick...including the blue tooth phone connection. I paired the phone and am piece-mealing adding the other stuff as I run across it. Good luck, and have patience!

When my amp was replaced and for the one day it did work it did not erase any memory from my saved stations etc.

I have the same problem, I am in Canada. XM did everything to assure me it was not on their end. The funny thing was this all happened after I let the trial period run out. When I signed up for XM the memory problems started.

The dealer has told me that Hyundai is aware of the problem and they have ordered some secondary box/part. They are not replacing anything but addding something. They will call me when the part is in and I will update eveone with the part number and fix.

I'm having the same issues as most of you are with the XM loosing all stations after turning off the car. I have had XM hit the radio with the signal 5 times now it stays on untill I turn off the car. I have owned my Genisis 4.6 techpkg since June 2009. I have called the deal in seattle 3 weeks ago and submitted a trouble ticket on this issue. They have not figured this out yet, seem Hyundai and you folkes have seen a resolve with the new AMP being installed. I will be calling the dealer Monday to informthem of the fix. Looks like its a spendy one for Hyundia 3200 bucks, either that or lexus Here I come.

Thansk all

When I had the amplifier replaced last week, I did NOT lose any information. Everything still there.

I guess the fix worked as I've had no problems.

That's good that you didn't lose anything. What I had replaced was the "head unit", so I guess this is a two-piece system.

Yup. You can see a diagram of the system if you sign up at hmaservice.com and read the service manual.

Basically, you have the head unit (which you really can't see from the inside of the car, pretty much - it's a big unit that contains the DVD changer) and the amp in the trunk. There's a fiber link between the two. The AM/FM/XM tuners are in the amp (which is also where the 17 speakers and the sub plug into), while the 'brains' of everything else are in the head unit.

There's also the controller and the screen, of course.

The dealer replaced my AMP in my V6 with Tech package after waiting 2 months with XM peolple and time to get people together.

The Canadian Hyundai dealer had never seen this problem and after telling him about the US problems that were the same he stated that they were different issues.

Anyway they replaced an AMP and he said the part was an expensive fix for Hyundai Canada.

The warranty invoice reads: Removed rear trunk trim and replaced Amplifier/set top box. There is no part number on the invioce.

Anyway it works great and it nice to have the XM back, I wish there was a way in Canada to get Sirius. I have a life time member ship and dont like not having Haward 100 & 101.

I hope this helps somone,

Well, I haven't had any XM problems but to tell you the truth, other than trying it from time to time to get to know it, I am not much interested in XM. Whether I am in town or travelling between cities, I prefer to listen to the CBC or my own iPod which has all my favourite music. I don't intend to start paying for XM when the first three months run out.

To make my decision not to start paying even stronger, XM does not include CBC. CBC is on Sirius. Funny thing is, some of the XM stations identify themselves as Sirius/XM. So if Sirius and XM can share some stations, why not the CBC?

Probably because Sirius and XM are not merged in Canada, because the dual ID stations are U.S. programming (where Sirius and XM are merged), because XM already has a competing Canadian channel, and because CBC is a part owner of Sirius in Canada. Probably. ;)

Has anybody actually seen a TSB or any kind of bulletin from Hyundai on this. I renewed my subscription to XM in September but I wasn't using the car alot until recently then I started having the problem of losing my XM stations once the vehicle was shut off, I had the signal resent numerous times and it works great until I shut the car off, then I had to start over again.
I took it to the dealer today after reading these posts and they supposedly diagnosed it as needing an amplifier. I let them know I had read several posts regarding the use of a reman unit but they said that's what they needed to order. I was just trying to find if there was anything in writing from Hyundai that specifically said to use a new unit so I could avoid an extra trip when the reman unit winds up doing the same thing.

Thanks

I had an odd XM problem about a week ago. Took my first relatively long trip from Jacksonville, FL, down to Miami, then to Tampa, and returned to Jacksonville. Our prime music was XM, and after driving for a couple of hours the XM just stopped, it scanned the USB and started playing it. Weird. Switched back to XM, and we were fine again for another hour and a half, then the same thing. This time it was irritating. The same thing happened about 5 times during the trip. We were looking for power lines or something else that could cause this but can't make sense of it. Yesterday I was reading about XM transmission, and it said that the signal comes down from the satellite and is distributed by a network of terrestrial stations (and I thought I was getting a direct satellite feed all this time!). Maybe there is a problem when it's switching between ground stations...has anyone else had this happen? The problem does not occur in Jacksonville, so I'm stumped. Any ideas anyone?

I've been using Sirius for the past 5 years and now I have to get used to XM. I do know that in the city they use "signal repeaters" because the actual satellite feed cant make it through tall buildings and such. So if you're on the open highway you are getting the feed from the satellite, but if deep in the city, most likely coming from a repeater.

Also keep in mind that your USB might be screwing up and calling to be activated. Every time I start my car up the first thing to come on is my USB even if I was on SiriusXM. ...I think. I'll actually have to double check that one.

I've been using an external hard drive (500gb) and I do know that when I'm not listening to it, the disk is still spinning and the lights are on. So anything connected is powered up. Let us know if it keeps happening.

I'll try it and see if that solves the problem.

Why would the USB drive be calling to be activated? I bought it new, yet still formatted it before putting the music on it. Could there be something going on that is not evident to me on this drive?

Just an update, I took the car to the dealer, even though I told them what I had read about the reman amps not fixing the problem they had to do what Hyundai told them and they replaced it with a reman amp. Went to pick the vehicle up and it had the same problem. It would not hold the XM signal when the car got shut off. They said they would call Hyundai tech support. In the meantime I printed out this entire thread and gave it to the service manager, A few days later they called me and said they were told by Hyundai to replace the amp with a new one and to have someone from wherever it was shipping check the date it was made. (they didn't tell me if there was a specific date they should be looking for). It came in, I got the car over there and so far the new amp seems to be working fine. When I picked it up the service mangaer told me he spoke to Hyundai techical and their XM service rep and this is what they have been doing and it has solved the problem except for two cases where they had to replace the head unit. From what he was told (and I'm not sure how true it is) the head unit stores the XM signal but it has to go through the amp which stores the subscription info and in the factory amp and the reman replacement when the vehice got shut off it was losing the subscription info so that's why the signal had to keep being resent. Anyway it seems to be working now, if it does it again I'm guessing the head unit will have to be replaced. Just wanted to post an update in case anyone is having similiar issues. I'll update if anything else happens so hopefully I won't be posting on this thread again. :)
