  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

XM renewal??

I have heard of no deals on renewals. The only time I have heard of a deal is when you let your subscription end, and Sirius/XM will come calling for you to "come back". Even then the rates aren't great, plus you will have to do without for maybe a couple of months.

Not only are there NOT good deals, they tried to ad another service into me they said was required for renewal. I will probably just let it expire as their prices are unreasonable for what I am getting. I'm just not driving that much. I like XM, but it's not all that.

I am set up on auto renewal...I am going to call and cancel it in January. With HD, regular radio, CDs, and my USB drive... I have music ADD in my car. Drives my wife nuts.

I still have stock from sirius that I paid +4 dollars for...and now it is practically worthless. The voices in my head tell me I should just sell it.

After my 3 month trial period, I called XM and asked for a full year subscription. I told the CSR that I see all over the web that people paid $79.94/year. That's the price I want to pay, period. she said to hold on a minute and came back and said no problem.

3 months prior to my next renewal, I will call to cancel and tell them that I'll renew but only at the same price.

My buddy has done this 2 years in a row now and that's all he pays.
I know you guys in the states can get it for a couple of bucks cheaper.

At that price it is well worth it.

I paid $78 dollars for my subscription last year. I had the service transfered from my Accord...

You can get the good deals. Need to get the right person on the phone. Some will give it to you, others will not. Either just keep calling back to talk to another person or wait for them to call you. I got $77 a year last year on another car. I believe the rates have gone up slightly.

Warning: Do not ever give them your Credit Card number. It is very diffucult to cancel service and they will automatically charge your card next year at the standard rate. Have them send you a paper invoice (they charge $3 for the paper, well worth it) and pay with a money order. When your year is up go through the same drill as above. Ball will be in your court.

Good advice. I'll try some more.

I will never listen to terrestrial radio again...

My "terrestrial" choices are the local college station (jazz) on FM, the all news station on AM, and baseball on AM. Other than that, I agree. That said ...

My free XM just expired after a year and I will NOT renew. With the iPhone integration and Pandora I can create my own music stations. With MLB AtBat I can listen to any baseball game. And the sound is just as compressed as XM!

With DVD-A, DVD-V, and the choices above I have no need to support XM.

I strictly listen to SiriusXM for commercial reasons. I don't purchase music from itunes or alike and if I do, it will be a full cd from the store. I have at least 300 full length albums in my memory stick but still find that I need new music to listen to which is where XM helps.

I'm also a huge fan of Howard and Andrew Wilkow and in order to listen to them I have to purchase SiriusXM. I'm going on 5 years now with satellite.

I've never used or heard Pandora through an iPhone. Does it really sound that good streaming through your phone into the Genesis? Whats it playing at, 256kb/sec?

ASHDUMP:

I don't know the bitrate of Pandora, but it sounds no worse than 90% of XM. What I like about it is the discovery of new music based on your original "station creation". For example, I made a Porcupine Tree station, and I'm now hearing artists/songs Id never heard before.

It's free, check it out:

I don't own an iPhone but here nothing but good things about them. Although the service, from what my friends say is just "OK". But thats not the iPhones problem but an ATT one.

Very good advice!

I don't like automatic renewal when using your credit card. I made arrangements for being invoiced by mail and then I send a check as to avoid any problems.

Don't ever believe it when the sales person from XM says the best that they can do is to give 3 months at a reduced price and then 12.99 per month thereafter. When I told them that I wasn't interested, he quickly transferred me to another agent who was very willing to dicker. He was very agreeable to a half price rate off their yearly fee. (1/2 of $142.99 or about $72 a year). He then told me that I will be automatically invoiced (paper thru the mail) at the same price when my subscription runs out so that I can avoid calling them each year to renegotiate. It always helps to be nice on the phone to them and not be demanding/rude! Just tell them what you would like.

If you ask to cancel - they will send you to a retention representative who will offer you much better deals.

While you may not have any of these phones either I did want to point out that Pandora is available for a range of platforms, not just the iPhone. Last I checked it's available for Android (Google OS), Blackberry, Palm Pre, and Windows Mobile based devices, as well as a few select ATT and Sprint phones that don't run any of these platforms. It's a great service, although I'll admit I currently use Slacker Radio rather than Pandora probably because they had Blackberry support first and once I'm used to something it's hard to change.

Fwiw, I did not renew XM when it expired - its not worth the money to me, but I use alternatives to terrestrial radio.

iPod/iTunes - music library, podcasts, and playlists to listen to stuff I know I like
iPhone with Pandora, AOL Radio, some others - streaming radio just like XM, few or no commercials, many special stations like 90's Rock, Big Band jazz, etc. Any smartphone with data service will allow you to do something similar.

Personally, I was called a few times, and I got some mail, about renewing my subscription. They will certainly make themselves available to you if you want to renew.

Heres a great question. I purchased my car used with only 3000k on it and the previous owner did not sign up or extend the xm subscription but I know its well over 3 months. Was there a period of time when they gave full year subscriptions?
