  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tried asking for advice on the navigation/audio website with no response. Wonder if anyone has heard of this problem. Sporadically, the radio on my 2015 Tech. will not properly play XM. The message shown is "Preparing Sirius XM" or "Updating Sirius XM Radio" at which time the channels cannot be changed. Usually, when the engine is turned off and restarted, the XM will kick in. Now the interesting part of this is that I've had it to the dealer 3 times, each time in the "preparing" mode. Each time they shut the engine and when they restart it, the radio works fine. They did "reset" the radio twice, but the problem still exists. They say as long as they can show that it works, they will not replace the radio. I always say 'don't turn the engine off", but the say they have to! I've reported it to Hyundai customer service, and was told they'll look into it. We'll see! I might add that I had Sirius Radio check things on their end, and they said it's in the radio, not on their end!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
This sounds similar to the "No subscription" problem that many (including me) have reported on this site. Mine started intermittently and would lose subscription every couple of days when the ignition was turned off. The radio would operate normally once resynchronized but would lose subscription again when the ignition was turned off. Eventually, this happen every time I shut the car off. The solution was a new head unit.

Your problem is somewhat different but could be related to same failure mechanism as the "No Subscription" problem since it appears to be having problems communicating with Sirius. Try telling the dealer about the problems reported on this site and the solution being a new head unit. If you don't get any satisfaction, try another dealer. Good Luck.

Beardie, my 2015 3.8 AWD did that one day as well. I bought it used and have put about 6000 km on it.

Adamg,

That only happened once? Mine does it almost every day. Most times it kicks in after a while, and sometimes not. There is no way to predict when it will happen. Worse problem is that I bought the car from a dealer quite a distance from me, and a closer, local dealer doesn't seem to want to get involved with it. Usually, by the time I get to a dealer, it kicks in. I had it to dealers 3 times. The most they do is "reset" the radio. That does nothing. Very frustrating! I called Hyundai, and they said they'll look into it and get back to me. That was weeks ago!!!

Record it on your phone. At least show them how long it stays in search mode. And maintain a log. If it's under warranty, start making a fuss.

Just had the head unit replaced on my 2015 3.8 v6. Took several calls to HQ Tech before they finally agreed that the head unit was defective. The local techs have no say in the process so you have to get HQ involved.

Thanks Chris and Grokster. I have a case number from a few weeks ago and will begin following up with Hyundai. Easy to see why their service gets so many criticisms!

I would record it and send it to them via their support.

Well you are correct, it happens every day. But usually it goes to the normal SXM screen with channel list and what's playing now detail within about 30 seconds of me leaving the garage. Just once has it stayed on the entire trip until I shut off the car when I arrived.

Beardie... good luck with getting this issue resolved!
If they do replace the Head Unit there is another problem that you may run into. Hyundai replaced my 2015 HU with a 2017 model year HU; which it turns out, has a different software load. The problem I now have is my back up camera now shows two overlapping guidelines rather than the single guideline expected. This issue has been identified by other Forum members and a Canadian TSB (#14-90-017) was found to fix this issue. Hyundai tech tells me this fix will not Work with the 2017 HU model. I have asked that a new case # be opened on this but this process is 'Tar Baby' on steroids. Patience and a sense of humor are absolute prerequisites.

I am currently having the problem with "Preparing Sirius XM Radio" in the 2016 Kia Sedona that I purchased certified used recently. It is intermittent. There are times when it stays on the entire leg of my travel. And times when it goes away after a few seconds. And like all y'all, when the message is onscreen I am not able to change the channel. Frustrating.

Hi..my xm and nav works, but the xm radio is bad quality. One channel will play as if I have a CD player and the next will play as if it's Fm radio? This is the only vehicle with xm radio I ever owned to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions? I live in western ky so it's not mountains blocking the signal. I used to live in eastern ky and xm radio was basically useless.

I would get the antenna and connections checked out. I had a similar situation (not Genesis) and the dealer said they could find nothing wrong, but after they fiddled with it and probably moved connections it worked better.
