  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have been experiencing times when I lose the sound while listening to XM, sound stays off for about 30 seconds and comes back on. I called Sirius while I was sitting in the car, explained the problem, they ran some checks and refreshed the signal. No problem on that end, so I took it to the dealer and as usual they could not duplicate the problem and told me to try and capture it on my cell, unfortunately I'm usually in traffic when it happens and by the time I get my cell out the sound is back on. Is anyone else experiencing this?

The XM signal, usually comes to the antenna at an angle to the horizon. Any tall buildings or other obstacles wills interrupt the signal until the vehicle moves past any such obstruction.

Other-wise never happens to me without interference.

If this happens in the same area(s) repeatedly, there may be an interfering signal being generated by another source.

Yes, I had a similar problem with XM stopping even when I was in a uncovered area without building, trees etc..

My dealer said there was a software update to fix it, took my car in, 4 hours later, i've had zero issues with it.

I have 3.8 tech package.

I used to experience XM signal loss in my 2010 Audi whenever I would go under an expressway overpass or sometimes just pulling into my garage. Fortunately, I have not experienced this with Genesis. I would continue to press your dealer for a solution.

This issue has been happening to me often. XM... I have a 5.0 Ultimate... So dash reads busy as opposed to no signal or weak signal, than after 30 seconds comes back on. I work on a Army base... but it happens in other locations, just not as often. Does get annoying.

Where are you driving? City? Tall buildings? Mountains? Heavy tree or foliage lined roads?

All of these conditions could interfere with the or block the line of sight to the S to W horizon (depending where you live/drive) that the antenna needs to "see" to pick up the XM satellite signal. (Did you ever drive under an overpass or through a tunnel and lose the signal?- same thing)

A more likely scenario if this is occurring frequently is the antenna itself or the connection to it in the roof could be loose or even bad which would cause these drop out conditions you describe which I would strongly urge you have checked out with your dealer.

The conditions I am referring to have nothing to do with line of sight, I'm talking about open interstate.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I suggest you go to the XM web site on your computer and have them RESEND your signal. You will require the Ser # of your radio to enter into the RESEND application. It is automatic, you need to have your car outside and the XM radio on for 5 Minutes in order for the signal to be regenerated. I just did mine because I was having very intermittent signal losing my music very often.

I had XM in my 2004 Acura TL. For about the first 5-6 years it worked flawlessly, I could count on one hand the number of times it lost signal in 6 years. Unless buried deep in a 3 or more story parking garage it work great. I had the car for 10 years, the later part of my ownership I started to get brief periods of signal loss. Even while driving down the highway with no obstacles in sight. With my new 2015 Genesis I experience signal loss all the time even with the least amount of obstruction. My theory is that the satellites that XM has been using have drifted over the years and degrading the signal strength. They need to launch new and/or more satellites. Just my theory

Sugrat stated his problem was solved with a software update, I was thinking maybe a loose connection at the antenna, but hopefully the update is the answer.

Note the time when XM goes dead...for 30 seconds or so, I would not be surprised if it is around 2:30pm eastern time. Mine does this often, in open sky and almost always around that time.

The Sirius/XM satelites maintain very high orbits. Its not uncommon that if another satelite is orbiting underneath it then it too will block the signal for several seconds anyway. Although most radios are built with a 5-8 second delay built into them so you don't loose the signal if it gets temporarily blocked sometimes that delay runs out and you run out of signal from it just being blocked by other things in the sky.

I took my car back to to dealer today, to no avail. Could not duplicate problem, I was wondering if you could snap a picture of your work order and repair from dealer. My dealer said he called tech support and no one has ever reported this problem.

Got head unit replaced today, when I got home backing into garage I noticed 2 sets of parking guidelines, I returned to the dealer and now they are ordering another head unit.

Ugh that's got to be annoying. I have a head-unit on order to fix my bluetooth issues. Hopefully I won't run into the same issue.

I'll look for it and post it to you, I also have a video of my issues to that I gave to the dealership, I can give you a link to that if needed?

This same issue just started on my Genesis 3.8 last week. I get weak signal while on interstate (No line of Site issues). It stays on channel "1", I try to change XM Stations, very slow and unresponsive and get busy in the "i" line no audio audio if I leave it alone it goes to the home screen.
Does this sound familiar??
