If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My XM Traffic overlay seemed to work fine after leaving the dealership but over the last week or so I can't seem to get it to work. When I tried looking at the Nav options the section on Nav Traffic is grayed over and not accessible.

Do I need to register with XM? Do we get free XM Traffic too?

My XM Radio stations seems to work without any problems.

At some point you will need to register. The Genesis comes with ONE YEAR free of both XM Radio and Nav Traffic. The main reason to register is you can listen to XM on your PC if you have an online account. [good for football season] As the previous post points out the XM/Genesis deal is a bit screwed up at the moment, so the XM rep suggested doing nothing as long as your radio works.

As for Nav Traffic, page 217-218 in the DIS manual gives the highlights. What is not too clear is you need to select your city in the XM channel list. With that done, I think your grey out problem will go away.

Thanks for the info. I will try this.

I believe that XM Nav Traffic is only available in certain large metro areas. That option is grayed out for me around home. As I travel closer to Washington D.C. on business, it comes on. If you don't live in one of those metro areas, XM Nav Traffic might not be available.

So followup on my XM Traffic problem:

I called XM and they 'reset' my radio by sending out a signal again over the satellite. The process took about 10 minutes of leaving my car on while outside with the XM radio on. Now I see those beautiful traffic colors on my Nav map again.

The other interesting thing which was mentioned in other posts before is that the subscription is free for only 3 months per XM. We will see if it is a year free or not when my subscription nears its end date.

Thanks for other people's suggestions/posts to this topic.

Only the Genesis with the Technology Package ups the XM subscription to 12 months. All others are 3 free months:cool:

Curious how you figured that out. I have Tech package, the old website promised 12 months but my window sticker states 3 months...

When this came up the first time, I double checked with my dealer and he assured me XM was for 12 months in all Genesis, and 3 months in all other Hyundai models. That said, I have the tech pack and my window sticker clearly indicates 12 months of complimentary XM Radio and Nav Traffic.

On the Sticker (Mulroney Sticker) under Standard Features it gives the 3 month XM subscription but if you look under the Tech Package you'll see it says 12 months.

Right he is!! So we can say if you have the NAV system it's 12 months, else 3. :)

I'm driving in Los Angeles, a lot of freeways, highways etc, about 60 miles in traffic daily. I found that XM traffic info is not real time at all. I can be crawling in heavy traffic when the map showes green line, on the other hand red line doesn't necessarily mean traffic is there. Is it a common problem? Besides, several times I've got accident warning sign, but by the time I drove through that spot everything seemed to be solved. What the point to pay for outdated traffic info?

The XM site is wrong. The only Genesis' out there right now are '09s, and those with the Tech Pkg have NavTraffic (at least in the US).

I sure hope predictions elsewhere on this site indicating that Sirius and XM programming will merge are correct. I'm not too impressed with XM's channels - and would likely NOT renew after a year - but the addition of Sirius channels (which I'm familiar with via Dish Network at home) would be a great improvement. What's not to love about a 24/7 Grateful Dead channel?

XM and Sirius have already merged. You can add some of the Sirius channels to your XM service for an additional fee. It is only a handful of the Sirius channels that can be added including Howard Stern. I have always felt that Howard Stern was a good reason for having XM rather than Sirius.

I think the other channels are football channels.

Just check out th XM web site.

On a "serious bummer" note, I purchased a $500 "lifetime" license for my Sirius radio when I got it several years ago.

I recently asked XM if they would honor that license, now they're a merged company, and transfer (for a fee) that license to my in-Genesis XM radio and they said, quite firmly, "No."

This reminds me of when SBC became AT&T, and I got screwed with my wireless contract. Why do I have the feeling that both legacy Sirius and legacy XM customers are going to get screwed over this merger?

I've been an XM subscriber since early 2004. I was able to transfer my unused portion of a 5-year subscription to my Genesis plus the 1-year free subscription.

Regarding the merger, it's done and being fully integrated now. The new channel line-up inludes a mixture of both XM and Sirius channels plus some premium channels like Howard Stern, NFL, NASCAR and Martha Stewart.

The new channel line-up can be viewed and downloaded at: http://www.xmradio.com/pdf/channel_guide.pdf.

Unfortunately, the stock is selling for $0.25. The real question is, will they survive without bankruptcy? Either SIRI is a screaming buy at $0.25 or it's a money pit for speculators. I have to admit, I'm tempted to risk some capital.

I have the 2009 with tech package and it definitely does have NavTraffic.

I have the same car and traffic works great in Atlanta. Just pointing out the error on the website.
