  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had a 2012 3.8 Tech Package for a month. Is XM Traffic supposed to be part of the 3 month trial? I have not seen any traffic information.

nav tells you of traffic problems only when you are en route to a destination. for example, it will say "traffic congestion ahead", or "lane restriction" etc.
also, if you look at the route, there will be arrows in each direction which is color coded. green (fast), yellow, and red (slow) for traffic flow/congestion.

really cool. but when there is congestion, i don't think it can re-route you.

When I had the XM Traffic trial on my 4.6, the traffic info appeared on the map whether or not I was en route to a programmed destination. That's how I decided it wasn't worth paying for in my area. I don't know if the 3.8 with tech includes the XM Traffic trial, however.

Technically, aren't you almost always en route to somewhere? Otherwise you're driving around aimlessly. :)

When I bought my '09 Genesis three years ago I got a year of free XM radio, and it had traffic with it. I bought a 2012 about 6 weeks ago, and this time the three month XM trial has no traffic. I don't know why they wouldn't include traffic in the trial subscription because I think it might induce one more to buy a subscription.

Are you sure XM Traffic isn't included? I'm not near my car (and the window sticker that's filed among the other sale-related papers) right now, but I think the 3-month trial includes both Radio and Traffic. If it doesn't, at least some XM employees are clueless.

When I called XM to activate the 3-month trial (remember when it was 12 months?), the Radio came on right away, but I had to call XM several times to get Traffic to fire up. After several attempts, it finally started and it's still working (although I'm about 2/3rd through the trial and will have to make a renewal decision...I'm ambivalent about Traffic and may not spend the $$ on a service that I find to be of marginal value).

I'd try calling XM and asking them to enable Traffic. Can't hurt...

Keep in mind that not all road will show the XM Traffic. In Florida, I get it on most roads, inclusing the major non-expressways. However, when I drive North, on I-95, it is spotty once I cross into Georgia. I have it some places, on not in other places. Sometimes, it shows up around major cities but not once you leave the cities, even though you are on an Interstate.
Before I understood how the system works, and that it was not everywhere, I had been going round and round with XM but it was activated, only I did not think so.

Not something that is really needed, but "cute" to watch on your screen <grin>.

btw, does anyone know how much is the traffic service?
i know for just the XM radio, you can get $25 for 5 months, or $77 for 1 year.
there should be a list price, and a discount rate for traffic, right?

About a month ago I realized my new Genesis was not receiving traffic data, strangely it did the first day I had it, then no more. XM told me that traffic was not part of the free trial of XM with Hyundai. I asked, well how do I know if I want to buy it if I can't test it? Finally asked to speak with a supervisor, supervisor initially said the same thing, then asked what kind of Hyundai I drove. Once he found out it was a Genesis he said that they do get traffic and said he would activate it for me. Later that day, still no traffic, call back and a different operator turns it on for me. About 2 weeks later I get a bill from XM for.... You guessed it, the traffic portion of my XM. I haven't been in a sado-masochistic enough mood to call them back yet.

I have a 2009 V8 Tech. It was a CPO that was purchased last August. Earlier this year I called to give XM a try. When I got an operator, they asked if I wanted to use my 3 month trial that had never been activated. As they were setting it up, I asked if I could also trial the Traffic option, and she said no problem. Within an hour or so, both were active and working properly.

I just went through this on my 2011 3.8 with the Tech package I bought a month ago. Basically from what I have figured out the dealership has to activate it for you. You as the purchaser have no right to activate the trial. This has to be the dumbest thing ever, as how am I going to purchase something that they won't let me try. After many phone calls to XM I finally got someone in America to clue me in. After I called my salesmen and told him he needed to get it set up I had it active in an hour.

Just got the 12 with a tech package and i do have traffic

Thanks. I found out that the dealer made a mistake when they activated the trial. The 90 day NavTraffic trial is listed as part of the Premium Package. They got it fixed for me. I had to go through the dealer though, XM was no help at all.

Sirius and XM are a total nightmare....I have been working with them for weeks to get them to get my NavTraffic working again after my trial expired. They seem not to have their computers up to date. I had to get my dealership (Great folks) to get them to call a higher up rep to get my NavTraffic working on the trial version. By the way I have a 2011 Genesis 4.6 with tech package.

When you visit siriusxm.com/navtraffic/ and click on availability - they did not have the Genesis listed until recently (as of late September 2011) but it only shows the 2010 model.

When I also called about getting a deal on my XM radio, they wouldn't budge. I got a deal for my wife's car (Toyota) which she doesn't want, they would not honor her deal so I ditched the radio idea.

Has anyone had any good luck in getting these folks to understand that NAVTraffic is available for the 2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 with a tech package?

It is a shame with a company that has so much potential to do well, their computers aren't current. They must have multiple systems that aren't communicating with each other.

It is a horrible experience, I have about given up on them.

I had it on my 2009 Genesis and had no issues. I was paying way too much for it, but thats my fault. When I got my 2012 Genesis I emailed them to cancel my account. After about 3 emails to them they told me I could not cancel via email. I would have to call them to cancel. Then about two weeks later I got a refund on my credit card. I never did call them and there have been no more charges.

I do intend to get it all activated on my 2012 someday. Im not in any real big hurry. I really dont see a huge advantage in the XMTraffic. Although it was nice to see the traffic jams and backups on the screen. Im really surprised it does not reroute you around the jams. Oh well.

I bough a 2011 3.6 GT and I had the same issues. I had XM traffic on there for like a day before they took it off. I called in to get it back on saying the same thing "how am I supposed to know if I want to buy it if I can't try it first". Told me I could cancel my trial and purchase XM to get the traffic. Terrible. So I decided against it. Just renewed with them as well with a "promotion". It's $30 for 6 months or you can tell them you want the $77 for a year. They will honor it as long as you tell them you got it via email. I tried again to get the traffic added on, fully willing to pay for it and they said they can't do it because it's in promotional pricing.

I have a 2011 Genesis 4.6. It came with a free trial of XM Traffic. I didn't order it after the trail because it was not very timely in the update. It would show a traffic problem but when I got to that point nothing was there or I would come up on traffic problems an XM showed nothing going on. XM traffic was active even without the Nav system set to a destination.
