  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

YES your Genesis can SELF DRIVE!!!

One can easily defeat the seatbelt warnings with a piece of metal shaped like the buckle. Is it the manufacturer's fault when you're ejected out of the car because you're not wearing the seatbelt? Don't put the blame on others and take responsibility for your own actions.

Nobody else cares if some fool doesn’t fasten his seat belt. He only kills himself. However, when a fool tampers with a guided missile system and kills other people, that’s a big problem.

Sorry, but that is over simplified. When he kills himself, he leaves behind medical costs, families, friends, work, etc. All of which cost money and other things.

If he is not successful in killing himself right away, multiply the medical costs by a LOT.

We all end up paying those bills (in both countries).

I like the simplified version. A fool is a fool in any case, but the general public always prefers that a fool takes his life without INJURIES OR DEATHS to others.

Agree but does not always work that way. Couple of weeks ago a 1 year old was killed in a one car accident, others injured. Six people in a pickup, none wearing seatbelts, no car seat.
Just a guess but I'm sure the taxpayers are on the hook for a lot of costs.

I think we are wandering from the point which is that a semi-autonomous vehicle that can easily be turned into a death missile by some fool should be banned from the highways.

Similarly, that’s why state vehicle inspections are important to check such things as brake operation and fluid levels, exterior lights and much more. The fool who is driving his precious family around without seatbelts is also, no doubt, driving a poorly maintained vehicle AND has no vehicle operation insurance either.

I would agree with state safety inspections if they were all legitimate and really did some good. Having lived in a couple of states with inspections I knew the ways around them and the scams often perpetrated by shops doing them. There are some legitimate shops but many (too many) shysters also exist.

I agree about the vehicle inspection thieves who prey upon the public. I just went through such an experience which I corrected by lambasting the general manager.

Living in NJ most of my life we had state inspection stations. I prefer that system’s integrity to the private contractor system we have in VA.

By the way, I think your ACI source is a political rag. I’ve never heard of them. Look at this crazy story from them. DeJoy will be lucky to escape prison after the November election.

So...that is unlike a regular vehicle that can be turned into a death missile by some drunk fool....maybe we should just ban cars/alcohol/and or highways...

I know I certainly have got the point that OP is not for you, so please feel free to disregard this thread....

Exactly. I've been following OP threads for a while (on multiple platforms) and there are always a few people that will join the conversation to simply find and complain about every possible fault but the complainer's logic always fails in the end. They will continue to miss or ignore the point where OP is a driver's aid, and doesn't magically create a level 5 autonomous vehicle.

Yup, I've tossed several of them on my ignore list a long time ago. Tired of repeating myself. Normally, I wouldn't do that for 1 thread but these guys have crapped on several other threads as well. Several times a noob comes asking questions about their shiney new car and they get dumped on. Just put them on the ignore list and move on, let the cynical bicker amongst themselves.

Different stroke for different folks, I'm a techie and if it was up to some people, we would be still using horse & cart, I just got OP (thanks to 84Jeeper for starting this thread), and it made my Genesis LKA and SCC ten times better than the stock system. 84Jeeper, there is a old saying, you can lead a horse to water, but you cant make him drink.

UPDATE

Sad to say we have some issues with OP at the moment. It still works the same as it always has for old hardware (which is to say GREAT). However, some of the features may or may not be enabled for the Genesis. A new unit could have problems that do not appear to be resolved at this time.

I would not recommend anyone purchasing the new hardware at this point.

Is it something to do with the integrated giraffe in the C2 or a software issue?

No, software issue.

Specifically it should work fine even with a C2 above 37 mph (I think that is the stock LKAS cutoff).

But currently it will no longer work below that speed (just like stock LKS).

It will also now, unlike the stock LKAS, turn off whenever you hit the brake at any speed.

More troubling is we have lost the support of some of the community developers due to Comma.ai's actions and I don't know when we will get another good developer/programmer to support HKG to reenable those features (which I think are very important for using the device).

Pass. If I wanted autonomous driving, I'd buy a Tesla.
I’m in. Based on the commercial of the Genesis cars going driverless around the track I wanted a self driving car that, unlike Tesla’s, reeked of luxury. Turns out the commercial was a bit of hyperbole. OpenPilot simply gives Genesis that final bit of tech to operate in the very top tier.

Did you read post 196 above?

I can confirm Openpilot with a Comma 2, is a great enhancement to my 2015 Genesis LKAS, its much better, almost perfect, I just completed my first big test, 904 miles in which there were 4 minor instances that I took over the steering, On the highway Openpilot shines, compare to the stock LKAS Openpilot was able to keep my car in the lane 100% of the 904 miles drive. Here are the top enhancements.
1. The ability to control the steering below 37mph, which the stock system does not do.
2. Stay active even when there are no lane markings.
3. No steering nag message every few second.
4. Auto resume from stop and go Smart Cruise Control, (no time out, like the stock does)
Those are just a few of my favorites. I must say this is one of my best $1000 investment. This really enhances the driving pleasures of my Genesis, and no, I am not affiliated with the Comma AI, the manufacturer. Please note: This is a work in progress, I use it strictly for lateral control, so all it does is steers, although it can be used in other ways.
