  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just uploaded a vid of my Genesis being driven by OpenPilot. It's not a great video and I will upload some more but you should get the idea. This really works and works really well. On a drive from CA to UT I had to make no corrections!!

It makes for a beautiful experience. I had only planned to keep my 2015 for 3 years and then trade it for the most affordable self driving car that would be out. Now, I already have that no need to trade in!!!

The video....

How does this connect to the car? I don’t see an ODBII connection in the kit, though it appears one can be purchased separate.

The "cellphone" that is used for the camera and "brain" of the operation is a dedicated unit purchased from comma.ai. To wire it in you purchase an OBDII port, a standard resistor, and a toyota plug from amazon....links below. You will complete a very basic wiring of the items (to make what they call a giraffe) together and that will plug into the camera that came with the car. If you can accomplish basic wiring by following a diagram this is very simple. After that follow the instructions for installing OpenPilot on the cellphone hook it up to the car and you are ready to roll. There is a great support community at Discord where you can get help if you get stuck and ask questions along the way...

Discord - Free voice and text chat for gamers

Hopefully that link will take you there....

This is what I purchased from amazon, hope all the links are still good.

You will see references to a "giraffe" which many cars use to interface the cellphone to the car....that is the piece you will be making. As there aren't that many Genesis' using OpenPilot they don't provide a premade "giraffe". Note that OP will work on many Hyundai's, Kia's, and Genesis' and that they are just now starting to produce the "giraffe" needed for some Hyundai's and Kia's, luckily the 2015 Genesis is really easy and cheap to make!!

Here's the wiring diagram. It might look confusing at first but you just take it one wire at a time and it's easy.

What are you getting out of it? I've been on the internet for many years and I see BS all the time when people hawk their wares. If you are selling something you can become an authorized vendor and legitimately sell here. So you just joined today just to share. Yeah, I'm skeptical but I'm right 99% of the time.

The lane keep assist system combo'd with the blind spot & collision avoidance do a pretty good job on there own, I wouldn't be surprised if the technology has been developed for productions eventually. This is fantastic

I am getting nothing out of it except apparently a snide remark. The reason I joined was to post a file for someone else on another thread. Although I had planned on posting my good fortune with finding OP. I have nothing to sell and I don't get anything from you purchasing these items. Sometimes people just do the right thing. I have read through this forum on occasion which has helped me with my car and just want to give back.

Your welcome.

The issue is that you clearly stated that you were making no money, then used Amazon affiliate links... tag=salsbloofnot-20

So either you are the affiliate, or you got the links from an affiliate. It's safest to make sure you're using clean links if you don't want to be suspected of marketing. And, by the way, that affiliate tag applies to any/all unrelated purchases made within 24 hours of clicking it. ;)

Yes you are correct. I purchased my Genesis because it had adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, and Android Auto (well, it could be updated to have it)...and as noted earlier I figured to keep it 3 years and then trade it for the best "self driver" I could reasonably afford. Yes the stock stuff works pretty well, I drive a lot between southern California and Utah and on the Interstate it was pretty good and about 90% there to self driving. Which always frustrated me...I mean like why didn't Hyundai just have a lane centering option? Well, this basically gives you the lane centering option. It uses the stock adaptive cruise as it is very good and OP only provides lateral control. As I understand the port of OP to Hyundai was done by a guy in Australia for his Kia. Lucky us Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis all use basically the same control commands so we can use it as well.

I first installed it in January and it was good (well really good) but wouldn't make all the turns on the interstate. They have released 2 updates since then and with the last it really does quite well. Even I'm a little surprised at how well it drives.

Being that it is piggybacking off the stock system it will only steer above 38 mph as the LKAS will only steer above 38. But other than that it really is super. If anyone is in the LA area I would be happy to let you test drive it when I get back (currently headed out of town) in the area in July.

Snide? My honest opinions is what it is. I've participated in forums and newsgroups for may years. You post read like ad copy more than an enthusiast. Yes, I can be blunt and perhaps you are in the 1%. We'll see.

When I put those links in it I copied them from a post of mine on Discord....and I assure you I just simply copied the links I had used to purchase the items myself. You are obviously much more knowledgeable about that than I, but whoever is making money on this I assure you it's not me LOL!

If you can show me how to post them w/o that affiliation I would be happy to do so or I can take mine off completely and you can repost w/o the affiliate links, that's probably the easiest. So if you wouldn't mind doing that when I see your links are up I will edit my post to remove them :)

Then maybe folks will believe me LOL.

Well, unfortunately I don't see how to pm on here but this will be my last reply to you on this topic in this thread. If you have questions on how OP works I will try to answer those (I really only know enough to get it going and other users helped me with that LOL!) as I have found some of your previous posts to be helpful. I have also been in forums and bulletin boards for various cars, jeeps, and computers stretching all the way back to the '80s with Atari computers and I assure you I am only here to help.

And if it reads like ad copy that's because I am excited about this tech...put one on your car and you will be excited to!

I mean for less than a thousand dollars I was able to get my car to lane center and do it really well. I would have paid more than that in taxes on buying a car to replace it.

You can look up the various youtube videos of OpenPilot (which are mostly on Hondas and Toyotas because that's what most folks drive) just know it can work for you on most of the Genesis....at least the older ones I don't know if the G80's use the same hardware and messaging you would need to ask the brains over at Discord about that....

Pass. If I wanted autonomous driving, I'd buy a Tesla.

I get where Edp is coming from, but personally didn’t see your post in that manner.

Thank you for posting the info, like you it is something I am interested in and will check it out when I have funds to do so.

Well, Tesla is the best!! There is actually a gentleman on Discord that has a Tesla and a Genesis. I asked him about how the two compare and after the 2nd update he said that OP was about 90% as good as Tesla. The 3rd update did improve it's cornering so maybe we are at 93% ;)

It's really quite amazing that a cellphone patched into a car can do that good. However, it won't ever be much more than a really good lane centering...but that's really pretty good when you have to drive 5.5 hours!

...and like you not everyone is a fan...my partner won't even use the cruise control LOL

I have also installed Open Pilot in my Genesis and think it is amazing! I have also posted on this site because it was really hard for me to find info on making the genesis self driving. Unfortunately Comma AI doesn't build a giraffe for our cars yet. I was lucky to connect with all the people on discord and they helped me build a giraffe for my Genesis. While the eon and panda were a little pricey the giraffe cost all of about 20 bucks.

What about the Flux Capacitor? Any additional info or feedback?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Luckily Flux Capacitor not required!!!!

However, you will need a small amount of unobtanium ;)

If you have any specific questions I would be happy to try and help. If you drive long distances it is fantastic!

Impressive work. I’ve followed Comma.ai since their founder announced it.

Can you do an install guide for the genesis?

I assume this will also work on a 2015 Ultimate that cannot be upgraded to use Android Auto, correct?
