I wonder if this thread is too old to revive? I'm an old Zaino fan from the 90s when I was a Classic Red Miata nut. It did a great job and lasted forever.

Let me tell you that a Black Genesis has a lot more body paint than a Miata

I have had my car since January but just now got the time and the weather to start the ball rolling. I spent 7 hours yesterday with a little help from a friend just dealing with the body paint. I notice on the new Zaino website that they will give the the shelf life expectations for various products, so I had to dump my old supply of ZFX, Z-2 and Z-5.

I started at 9:00 in the morning with a Dawn [argh] washing then [taking the advice from the Zaino Tips online] dried the car with a TORO 210mph electric leaf blower. Worked pretty good, the after Dawn the surface is a little tacky. Then we went to work with the Z-14 claybars. I had some contamination, but not as bad as I thought for a car that was built in Oct 2008. I had some stains from a dripping AC unit that must have contained calcium. They came off, but took some time. Washed it again, this time with Zaino car wash, and mixed the Z-5 swirl removal polish. Given the high heat and humidity it dried in 20 min with the ZFX added. Wiped it off good, but need to use Z-6 quick detailer to smooth it out and make the next application of Z-5 a little easier. Whew.... glad to have that clay bar job finished.

From looking at their website, it appears they ship from Kansas City or nearby. If you live in NJ (where their offices are located) you have to order using at a special email address they will provide. Not sure what that is about, probably something to so with intrastate commerce rules in NJ.

Actually they have a long time distributor for NJ and Sal remains very loyal to those that have helped build the business. I elieve that all NJ orders go through the distributor. I also believe Zaino directly handles orders for other states.

At one time the Zaino brothers were extremely well known for custom paint jobs.

If you have never met Sal, you are in for a great experience, he is always at cars shows in central NJ.

Unfortunately our Genesis is platinum metallic also so the difference wont be quite as amazing but I have a feeling it will be much better than the NXT wax I use on my GS now. I have used multiple waxes on my GS and for the price the NXT is really good, but since the Genesis is brand new I wanted to try Zaino, which I will also use on my next new car in a few years. I used pinnacle products before and wasnt overly impressed with it. I also used Poorboys stuff, which did ok, but the poorboys swirl remover and wheel wax are the best. I tried menzerna and didnt like that at all. I will post pics after I receive the items and also some thoughts on it.

I CAN tell you that the NXT wax is garbage when used on a Black Genesis. I used it on mine today and it left a finish that looks exactly like a thin sheen of oil on a puddle of black water. Not exactly what I was looking to achieve.

Did you use it by hand or use a DA? I have a dark grey car, when I first used NXT 2.0, it left streaks. I later discovered you have to use a pea sized amount on a very large surface. If you use too much, it will streak. You also have to let it dry for for at least 30mins before you remove it.

I applied it by hand with the pad that came with the container. I am certain I met the 30 minute requirement as it took about 45 minutes to work all the way around the car applying the wax. As for using too much, that's a fair question. I figure I used about one tablespoons worth over the entire car. The majority of the streaking occured on the hood...which was where I started. I think I'll try it again next weekend, but go lighter on the application. I'm always game to give a new producta fair shot...especially if user error might be involved. Thanks for the response.

It's a common mistake with NXT. If you read the Meguiars forums, a lot of people complain about it. It's human nature to think more is better. With NXT, you have to apply it so thinly, that you're not even sure if it's on. If you live in a humid area then it can take over an hour to dry. Doing it with a DA polish is faster and application is more even. Doing it by hand is fine, but I would do two very thin coats, as oppopsed to 1 thick. Also, I find Carnuba wax to be better for darker colors. The new one from Meguiars Gold Class is good. But to be honest, with a few exceptions they are all about the same.

Liquid Glass is the same way. You only need a little bit.... I just put my third coat of LG on last week. I used the DA buffer.... so much quicker and easier than by hand.

Yep, I actually did read that on the Meguiars forums. I picked up a random orbit buffer and I'll try it again with a lighter application. Honestly, after 2 days the oily look faded away and the finish looked like a million bucks for the next week. It rained three times and the water just wisped off the car without leaving any spots. Even the dreaded cedar tree pollen wasn't sticking to the surface. I'm a believer now, and expect that I'll get great results when I put on a second application this week. Just for fun, I also picked up Zaino Z-5 PRO and ZFX. We'll see how that works. Sick that I'm actually looking forward to polishing a car.

I just used the regular liquid glass. I used the second softest pad because I did not want to cut to far as the paint is in great shape. I have 3 coats on now with 1 coat with the quick detail spray. The quick detail spray is awesome! Really quick to apply and take off.

Let me throw this into the mix - BlackFire. They rank up there with Zaino, Liquid Glass and many others. I'm not sure there is a best - just the one that works best for you and makes you happy when you are done. I still have some BlackFire left (it's good for 6 months on the car) and not sure what I'll replace it with.
