  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have an iPhone 4 and use the OEM iPod cable that was provided at purchase. I haven't seen too many third party cables available, but what are the odds that an iPhone 5 cable will become available soon?

Someone will sell one sooner or later given the popularity of iPhones and iPods. Apple also sells an adapter for about $30.

Apple sells an adapter so you can use your existing cable. It is an inch long though so makes the plug a little ungainly.

I would think that the included with iPhone5 (and seperately available for $19) USB to "Lightining" cable would work as a replacment to the OEM cable. I will find out next week.....

Don't think it will. If you look at Hyundai's cable, they incorporate both the USB and audio jack on the car side of the cable. Let us know if it works though.

Good article find dataguy...I'm unfortunately thinking the same that it wont work with the Genny:( May have to go the aux port route:o

The adapter I mentioned previously will connect the current cable to the iPhone 5's (or new iPod's) Lightning port, but it remains to be seen if the menus will appear on the Genesis' screen. It's also unclear whether even a new iPhone/iPod cable from Hyundai will work. See this article in Macworld for more information.

When I'm wrong, I'm wrong, the new cable is purely digital.

There may be some hope though, WhatHiFi in the UK claims that Apple has confirmed the $30 new-to-old adaptor has a built in DAC, if so we can hope that the existing Hyundai cable may work........http://www.whathifi.com/news/iphone-5-and-ipods-wont-work-with-some-existing-kit-–-even-with-the-adapter
Keeping finger crossed:o

The apple web site states that the two adapters they are now offering do not support "iPhone out" or video. I have never used that terminology, but I take it to mean that there was previously an analog audio and video signal contained within the 30 pin connector, that various aftermarket accessories used. This will be absent in the iPhone 5 as the Lightning is all digital; any adapter cable would need to have a digital to analog converter (which according to some sources the apple adapters have, or don't have depending upon the source). The Macworld article is very good at explaining what all that terminology means to the user.
I think the A2DP solution is a good bet I will have to look into it. Disappointing that Hyundai did not include that feature in the built in bluetooth.

Apple strikes again. Gotta make those billions somehow. Proprietary cables FTW.

Sincerely,

- Guy who finally broke down and bought an Apple product for the first time last month (new iPad, which I like, by the way. Very much)

From that link:
Unfortunately, this consumer confusion isn't helped by coverage like this post at Cult of Mac or this CNN Money story, which erroneously conflate the "iPod Out" feature support with the fact that the Lightning interface is "all digital" and leap promptly to the conclusion that you can't get any analog audio out of the 30-pin adapter. That's incorrect. Macworld sought and received direct confirmation from Apple that the adapter does supply analog audio, and the company told The Verge that future adapters will support VGA and HDMI video out, just like the current 30-pin accessories.

What does this mean for you? If you don't have a car that supports iPod Out, and you don't plan to buy one, go ahead and get that iPhone 5 or new iPod touch you're craving. The Lightning to 30-pin adapter may be clumsy and certainly isn't cheap, but it definitely will let you connect to your music.

Fwiw, I have a case # at Equus Support asking the question. Will post to this thread when/if they get back to me with answers.

Why not just stuff the i4 in the center console hooked up to the Factory cable, use it as normal, and hotspot it to the i5 if you want to listen to anything else like Pandora, Slacker Radio, etc?

That would work (assuming that your plan includes hotspot) but that'd be a much more expensive solution than buying something like [ame="http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0038MA11U/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_5C1uqb1Z775JC"]Amazon.com: Miccus Mini-jack RX: Bluetooth Music Receiver pair it with Phones, Tablets, PCs and Apple Devices: MP3 Players & Accessories[/ame] since you can sell an iPhone 4 for more $$.

LOL true, I just thought that iPeople were used to expensive solutions... ;)

I went this way: http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=101881&postcount=27

That works? For some reason, when the media button is pressed on the DIS, I see the screen saying that nothing is connected???

Unplug the cable from the car side, re-insert, and then make sure your BT connection is active, and you should be golden.
