  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey All,

I have a possible opportunity. The dealership I bought my car from has kind of dragged their feet and have not exactly been quick to resolve some minor, yet numerous issues. 7 months after I bought my 2012 V6 with tech and prem., I decided to speak to the GM of the dealership. He says "we want to do anything we can to make you happy...If that means putting you in a new Genesis then thats what we'll do." WOW!! He asks me to come in.

I come in and meet the GM. We talk... and he has a sales guy start looking for available cars for me to take. ( I'm still thinking can they really just take my now used car with 6500mi and allow me a brand new car??) The sales guy pulls up a brand new 2012 V8 4.6. Hmm?? I go for a test drive and check the car out to avoid issues like the last time I took delivery.(I'm thinking, isn't this a more expensive car). He is almost selling me on the 4.6 I feel......

Well...long story short. Turns out they couldn't or wouldn't give me a new car for my car. I ended up getting into an argument with the sales guy because I didnt want to pay more for a car...HAHAHA! This all started at 10 am and it was now 1:15pm... The GM was busy and basically left me out in the wind, until I had no choice but to walk out and pick up my kids being an hour from home. I called the Gm back and he was apologetic and all... but here we are a week later.

SO...Lets say they do give me a car...

1. Do people who have driven both prefer the 2012 V6 with tech and prem or the 2012 V8 4.6?

2. Thoughts...strategies? All or any welcome.

Thanks for reading...

Its a matter of personal preference imo. For what I understand, the power between both cars is not that different in the low and mid range. Im sure the fuel milage is better in the 6. I drove a 4.6 before my R Spec and loved the way it drove. Its really up to what you want. If you want a bit more power on the high end, then go with the 4.6. Otherwise, stay with the 6.

I suggest the 4.6 which does not have GDI. There have been some problems with the new GDI engines. The 4.6 is a rock solid engine. Plus the 4.6 comes standard with more goodies. the extra gas used will be less than 20.00 a month for most drivers.

Beyond soot, is it really fair to say Hyundai's GDI engines have had problems? Other car companies who adopted GDI early have documented issues, and some people here are anticipating problems, but I can't remember a problem that was isolated due to GDI technology. Anticipating, worrying, or repeating others' undocumented concerns is different than a bona fide issue with Hyundai GDI engines.

This is something I have given a bit of thought. My conclusion on the GDI vs non GDI is that so far so good. I have not heard any horror stories in regard to the GDI Engines Hyundai is using. The soot is killing me though. I cant get it off the paint just above the tailpipes:mad.

Initially it was the GDI that drew me to the V6 over the V8...

I was including GDI engines in general. Not particularly Hyundai.

It is important to be reality based for prospective buyers who don't know. More manufacturers will be using a hybrid port/di system for a reason. On this forum I've read about the fuel pump gaskets leaking on 2 R-Specs. Another had a fuel pump go out. Nobody has checked to see if there's been a power loss @ the 20k mileage mark yet. That may happen yet or not.

I pray none of you have problems and you probably won't. Here is a good read from the Truth about Cars - http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/05/ask-an-engineer-gdi-problems-in-a-nutshell/

To me the 8 cyl. rides better with the extra weight in front.

The tailpipe soot is a weird bit of bother. Is there a product we can use for cleaning or new exhaust tips that are more resistant to the staining?

The best I've used so far. It's what my detailer uses, and it's very easy to use.
