Dead 2009 Genesis

My 2009 Genesis is dead. It will not start with Start Button or with FOB inserted in the dash. This happened Thursday and I called both dealer and AAA. Dealer said bring the car in (Hard to do when not running). SAM's Club , where I was, checked the battery and it checked out fine. AAA tried to jump it and to no avail. When AAA tried to test the battery, the alarm went off and I was able to start the car and take it to dealer. Dealer replaced some trunk switches and a wiring harness and said I was good to go $400.00 later.
Drove home stopping once at grocery store and the next day drove to football game and then to friends house. Car was dead again when I tried to leave my friends house.
Nothing works except lights and horn. Remotes(2) do not work. One has new battery. Had to use metal key in FOB to enter car or trunk. Security light on dash is on solid where as it used to blink. Can anyone help with this. Dealer is closed till tomorrow, but have more confidence in this group than my dealer.
I have a open case number with Hyundai, but the more input the better I say.

Try the metal key in the slot adjacent to the Gear selector and see if it allows you to start the engine. Try moving the selector back and forth - it could be the "Neutral Switch" that prevents starting unless the gear selector is in Neutral or Park.

Why would this cost $400? Shouldn't it be a warranty claim?
Sometimes disconnecting the battery for a few minutes then reattachint it works in cases ilke this (think: shift+alt+delete). But keep in mind this may erase some of your presets.

Have brake pedal brake switch checked. It has to work properly for the car to start. Also check the small rubber bumper under the hood for the security system, if its missing then that can cause problems(see other threads on this).

Canuk. Tried to do that on thursday and the key does not go in. Was thinking the car had to be running to use the shift selector override. @ Parker I do a lot of driving have 74,000 miles on my car. After 50,000 miles there is only drive train, or so I am told. This is the reason I haven't had the faulty drivers side lock button fixed. $300.00 for that. Seems they have to repaint the door in order to replace the entry button.
Will look at the switch under the hood when I go back to the car tomorrow.

I have a 2009 V6 with close to 80K on it so i'm interested to see what happened to your car to avoid it happening to mine. Please keep us updated

Hyundai is repaired. Heres a short story long. Tow truck showed up on Tuesday mid day. Dealer was paying to have it towed. When the tow truck driver went to insert the tow bar eyelet thru the bumper, the alarm system went off and I was able to start the car. Rather than drive it in I had it towed anyway. Left the car there over nite and it was also dead for the dealer the next day. After some trouble shooting they determeined that the unit that controls the key fobs, which is loctaed in the dash behind the slot where you can insert the key fob, was faulty. They replaced it under warrenty with a $100.00 deductable and the car has started ever since. Still have to see why they replaced the trunk release in the first place but at least I have my car back.

Can I assume you are going to inquire about why you had to pay $400 for a repair that wasn't one? I would!

Car lasted for about 6 days. Last Thursday my wife was going to meet a friend for lunch, hit the start/stop button, got out of the car and locked it. Her friend told her "Your car is still running". She tried to unlock it but it would not with the FOB. Metal key got her in and after many different tries, she got it turned off. Ate lunch and got back in the car and drove home. I tried to repeat what she had done but could not. I drove the car about 3 miles to a store and when I got back out, it was dead as in the last two experiences. It was towed to Hyundai and is there now. By the time it got to the dealer, it was OK. Would start and stop with no problem. Had to argue for a loaner. I have called Hyundai America once again. Do I want my money back for the first repair that was unnecesary? You bet I do. Do I want them to get my car so it is reliable to drive. Priority number one. Haven't heard from them yet today, Monday at 11:20 am.

After replacing several locks including the starter lock in the dachboard, they finally contacted one of the engineers for Genisis and he suggested replacing the PDU which is the Parallel Data Unit. Since replacing that, I have had no problems. Good Luck

I am not a car engineer, but have worked with computers for over 30 years. From the name Parallel Data Unit, I am guessing that it is the computer componant that controls the locks and other items. These would be devices that have to work independant of each other and not in a series. Though the locks may share a wire, they are still independant. Must be somehow also linked to the starter and other electronic devices. This is olny surmissed from my work with computers and no Genesis engineer's information. My Hyundai mechanics did not know what PDU stood for when asked. I googled it. This could all be wrong, but at least my Genesis is back up and running with the replacement of the PDU.

I'm having the same issues with my 2009 Genesis 4.6, did this resolve the problem?

I am having the exact same situation with my 2009 Genesis Sedan 3.8. First got the "Turn the steering wheel while pressing the button" alert 4 days ago. The car would eventually start then but now will not start at all. Key fobs have newer batteries and operate the door locks/unlocks/panic. However the car will not start, nor can i get the accessories to come on. Car will not start with the fob in the slot as well. Car is now at the dealer being "looked at". I called a half dozen dealers to see if anyone had experienced this issue--non had.

I will lead the dealer to this thread and have them check the PDU. Hopefully, that does the trick. Will let you all know.

Does PDU (Parallel Data Unit) anything like the PDM (Power Distribution Module)? I ask because from research they have related purposes; I can't find anything online regarding a PDU.

My 2009 Gensis 4.6 have what seems to be the same problem, dealer replaced Steering, ignition, lock module...has something to do with anti-theft
Stuff....expensive 950+. Fixed mine though.

Turned out to be the steering lock assembly on my issue. Part number 81900-2J710. Part cost $621 but only an hour or so of labor at the dealer.
