Has any one have any idea about the mile I got driving to Las Vegas from L.A.

I have the 2012 Genesis 4.6 and recently got 22.2 mpg on a recent trip from L.A. to Las Vegas. There where 3 people and a fully loaded trunk.

The speed was averaging 80 Mph for haft the trip or so. Had some stop and go taiffic for 20%, than average 40-60 Mph 30% of the time. Temerature at the time was 42 to 54 F in calm conditions. Using premium octane fuel.

Average Fuel Consumption

My actual fuel mileage is 2.4 mpg less than the autos calculations!!

The car's calculated Average Fuel Consumption on mine is awful. Mine is 2 to 2.5 MPG higher than reality. On this trip I saw 24.6 mpg on the screen, but the fill-up gallons divided by miles driven is 22.2. Around town I average between 18.2 to 20.1.

Thanks, Marty

Driving from OC to Laughlin I get an actual 27. Car shows 27.5.. CC set at 78

Hmm...it does sound kinda low. I average 22.5mpg in my daily commute (my own calcs, not the computer, although it usually shows only 0.5-1mpg high). It's 43 miles each way, 70% highway, but I'm dealing with NYC metro area traffic:rolleyes:

On highway trips where I can set the cruise (only 70mph around here) I've gotten 25-27mpg fairly consistently.

I think a car's mpg may vary based on the area and conditions that you drive. Hills, constant winds, etc. I recently moved from Florida to Kansas. I achieved 24 mpg in my '12 3.8 sedan around town in Florida and 30-32 on the highway. In Kansas with winds and hills and two lane roads- I get 26-27 on the highway.
As a comparison- I also have a '98 VW New Beetle tdi diesel. In Florida- I got as high as 53 mpg @70mph and mid 40's in town. In Kansas-it gets mid 40's highway.

fwiw... hyundai mpg calculator 16.8 MPG... my math 14.5 (after fill-up).

I'd say there's enough results posted here to prove the Hyundai Calc is off 1 MPG or more.

That's been my experience for the last 14 months.

not exactly happy... however since purchase mpg has been going down every corner.

bmw was getting 22MPG new... when sold was 17... so i said 17-16 MPG with Hyundai V8 thats fine. now its 14.5. I truely hope the carbon build up doesnt occur on the intake & HPFP failing doesnt result in even lower MPG. Time will tell ! Low MPG was the reason i didnt entertain the CTS-V... wonder what I'd get with one of those... 14.5 or 11... or worse?

Reading this particular part over again...50% of your trip was sub-optimal for fuel economy. So 22.2 MPG really isn't that bad. Still on the higher side of the EPA mileage estimates. Plus you were hauling some weight (3 passengers + full trunk).

Apples to Oranges, but I drive a 3.8 and find I get all the power I can possibly use in a crowded metropolitan area. I live in downtown Philly and work in Manhattan.

Last April I drove to Boca Raton and back, two passengers and a full trunk & back seat, and my mileage averaged 32.5.

Locally, on the turnpike between Philly and NY I average 27.

I have a 2012 4.6. Took a drive from Oregon to Arkansas and back. Averaged the entire trip getting 27 miles to the gallon. My car gets its best mileage using regular gas. My BMW 5 series required the premium, the Genesis does not.

Use regular gas. :)

The fact is that regular gas contains more BTUs per pound. Its lower octane causes ping and forces the engine computer to retard the timing and that is why the HP is lower on regular gas. The mileage though should be 1-3 mpg better. Use premium gas for drag races, but don't expect great mileage! It's great that you can run regular when you don't need 400+ hp.

If you are only measuring from LA to Vegas, you have to factor in altitude gain. I know just from LA to the Antelope Valley as over a 2000ft gain...to Vegas is probably another 1000, with ups and downs.

If that is your round trip mileage, well, then that is a different story. Did you fill up at the same station? different pumps click off with different sensitivity. If you really want to get technical you need to fill up on the same pump at the same station to reduce the variables....though they shouldn't affect it THAT much.

That's a pretty common misconception unless you have a lot of shady gas stations in your area. The National Institute of Standards and Technology mandates that fuel pumps be within 0.3% accurate. Which means for every 10 gallons measured you should receive 9.97-10.03 gallons. Pretty much all states conduct random inspections to ensure this too, fines are pretty hefty if inaccuracy is found plus being shutdown until fixed. If you've ever seen it done, they use friggin test tubes to measure the volume. To put it more visually, the pump can only be off by about ±2.3 teaspoons per gallon.

I am not referring to the volume measurement of the pumps, those are pretty accurate...what the weights and measures, at least from what I have read, do not regulate is when the pump shuts off because it thinks the tank is full. Heck, I have had it overflow because the pump did not shut off properly.

And being a bean counter....even if I was talking about the measure of the pumps....one pump off .3% in one direction, the other off .3% in the other direction, and now you are off by .6%. That is about 1/10th of a mpg ;)

Up date on return trip from Las Vegas.

Driving back from Las Vegas to L.A. I got 24.2 mpg. There where 3 people and a fully loaded trunk. The speed was averaging 85 Mph for 80% of the trip. Had very little stop and go traffic. Temperature at the time was 42 to 54 F in very calm conditions. Using Chervron premium octane fuel.

Than I when to LAX airport from Thousand Oaks with 2 people averaging 75 Mph for 90% of the trip. LAX back to Thousand Oaks with 4 people and a load truck.

Fill up the car with premium octane fuel.

The car's calculated Average Fuel Consumption was .88 more MPG higher than reality. On this trip I saw 25.1 mpg on the screen, but the fill-up gallons divided by miles driven is 24.2.

Our 2012 Genny 3.8 just finished a trip across the country and back, from Sierra Vista, AZ to Canal Winchester, OH, a distance of just under 2000 miles. Weather encountered was windy in areas, and cold. My wife was driving, passenger was our daughter and the car was loaded with luggage, etc.

Trip was basically I-10 (AZ and NM) to I-25 (NM) to I-40 and East to Oklahoma City, then NE on I-44 to St. Louis and then E on I-70 to Columbus.

While I have no examined the paper records she kept, the car calculated right around 32 mpg for the trip at 80+ mph. And there is some pretty hilly terrain to negotiate as well in NM and OK, and MISSOURI (downhill and UPHILLS)..
