  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Startup and shutdown tones

Sorry, looks like I'm a little bit late to this party... At any rate, I have a 2012 non-R-Spec 5.0, and I finally found how to silence this tune. It's called "welcome sound" and I was able to turn it off by holding the DISP button on the steering wheel for a few seconds. This activates the menu, which appears in the center of the instrument cluster (where the "cartoon" Genny shows up when the tune plays). From there, you can toggle it on/off and use the TRIP button to save the setting.

I found this Hyundai "commercial" cheesy and annoying. I couldn't find a way to get rid of the graphics; only the tune. But, getting rid of the sound was enough for me.

Cheers!

I guess this is a small advantage to owning a no-frills 2012 3.8. I have no such music to annoy me. My wife's Sonata "Blue" (hybrid) does have something similar I think to what is described here, but I don't find it annoying. It plays a few notes and shows a bunch of eco-friendly nonsense on the dash screen as it's starting up.

"doo doo doo doo doo.... Dinnnnnnnn"

Odd. On my 2012 R-Spec (purchased late '11), I have tried holding the DISP button but I don't get any new menu items. There's no "welcome sound" option that I have found.

Since the car has a computer it is a simple matter to have it play an audio file at a pre-set event. I suspect if you could find that audio file and delete it you would solve your problem. Of course, if the program expected to find a file and had no error routine to execute in the event it wasn't present you might find yourself in a parking lot and no way home.

I had the engine off when I stumbled across this. We're having a cold snap (at least for L.A.) and it's triggered my TPMS. When the TPMS warning is on, it seems to override other functions. I'll pump up the tires and try to recreate the steps tomorrow. When you enter this mode, the welcome sound is the only option.

Mach1's procedure worked on my '12 Genny R-spec as well. I believe I had to be in "accessory" mode (hit the Start button without your foot on the brake).

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Yes, Landtuna's got it. That's the part I left out. You have to be in ACC to access this single menu.

Good post Mach1. Thanks for the info. I shut it off on mine today.

Are there other options when in that mode?

Thanks in advance

Just found the sound settings on my '12 Premium & Tech. Interesting but I'm keeping the tone on. Nice discovery, Mach.I wonder what else is out there we don't know about.

I clicked on the link to give both Mach1 and landtuna good reputation points even though I don't know what they are.

On the 2012 R-Spec there is a menu setting from the Car/Info screen that you can adjust to turn the sound on and off.

Yup, the key info that I missed at first was that the engine must not be running; it has to be in ACC mode to access that menu. Sound is off now! Thanks everyone.

Interesting DeeVa. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Perhaps it will grow on me after a while, but it just seems strange for a car to play a little tune every time you shut it off or start it up.
I hate it as well.
