  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recently started having a problem with my Key Fob not wanting to work so I contacted my Dealership where they informed me it would be $69 to replace the battery and program the chip in it back to my car. I decided to pop the remote open myself, just used a thin flathead jewelers scewdriver and it readily popped open as I slid it along. Inside there is a single cr2032 battery, which I picked up locally for $4 (Energizer 2pk). I put the new battery in and the remote works like new again, no re-programming of the remote was required as my dealer was leading me to believe.

Don't use a screwdriver to pry open your key fob, you my damage it. Simply remove the key about half way and rotate. The fob will open.

^ That is the best way.

Also, people might now know that if the fob completely dies and wont work at all, like mine did, they are covered under warranty of the 5yr 60k bumper to bumper lol

Hah, that's a good idea, never would have thought of that.

As for the battery, the owner's manual does state it is owner replaceable. No mention of reprogramming needed. That's pretty shady of your dealer to charge $69 for a battery replacement:rolleyes:

On my 2013 Genesis, you pull the key all the way out. There is a 1/8" deep slot next to the key hole that the key will seat in. Put the end of the key into that slot and twist to separate the halves of the fob body.
I'm amazed a dealer would try to scam you like that. OK, no I'm not.
