  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all. I currently lease a 2010 Mazda 6 S Grand Touring V6, with the lease ending on September 1, 2013. Nice enough car, but I'm ready for something with even more pick up, more technology, and more refinement....so I'm going to buy a Genesis! I think they're awesome. I know for a fact I cannot afford a 2011 or newer. I have my heart set on either a 2009 or 2010 Genesis 4.6 with the tech package (no, I will not buy a V6. Gotta have a V8 now). From what I've read, 2009 models are by no means bad, but the 2010s have, what, upgraded suspension, radar cruise control, electronic parking brake with auto hold, and, depending on the build date, 10 more horsepower?

Like most people, price and monthly payment are the most important factors for me in the purchase. I'm not rich. I assume a 2009 4.6 tech package would run cheaper than a 2010 4.6 tech package. I've seen some online with relatively low mileage (less than 50,000) for around $20,000.

Anyone have any strong opinions to NOT buy a 2009? I know I could get one cheaper than a 2010, and I can live without the radar cruise control and electronic parking brake. But is the suspension going to be totally awful? Any other issues to be concerned about? I'm noticing that 2010 4.6 tech packages are harder to find than 2009 tech packages..... Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Go 2010. I wish I had but by no means am I disappointed with this car. The suspension is a bit jarring sometimes and I wish I had a better layout of the steering wheel controls (that the 2010 with radar cruise has).

I would go 2010 if you can afford it.

2010 or if you can go for 2011 4.6 that has 10 more hp and some engine improvements.

I just purchased a red 2010 4.6 w/tech pkg with 35k miles this week and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I paid $22,500 before TTL at a Hyundai dealership. I used Car Guru to find out that the car I was interested in had been on the lot for 121 days, so I knew they would be very motivated to make a deal. It also came with the cargo tray, mats, and sunroof wind deflector. I never used cruise control on my Azera, but I have fallen in love with the smart cruise control and use it all the time. The power is incredible!!!

I had the windows tinted with Suntek HP 35% VLT, and it kicked up the appearance and improved the climate control.

Hope this info helps.

I have installed the same film on my car also. 35% Suntek (Carbon) Nice stuff

Chris7676 - sounds like you got a really good deal. $22,500 is a great price for a car that was easily $45,000 when it was new 2 1/2 years ago. Did you put any money down? If you're willing to share, I'd be curious what your monthly payment is. What are your thoughts about the car so far? Thanks.

You can go to sites like cars.com and use the payment calculator to find what it may cost you per month. It does depend on dealer fees, what bank or finance company, how long the car is financed, interest rates, and how good your credit is on day of purchase.

Hi all.... Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I had a 2009 (now I have a 2012) and I would NOT pass on trying the 09's out.

My thought is why not try out (as in drive it/them around) the available cars. There are so many variables (mileage, condition, etc.) that dictate price, the ride should be your main decision maker, IMO.

Good luck and good riding!

Go 2010 and just be patient. I drove a '09 4.6 Tech and liked it enough, but like my '10 4.6 tech better because of the smart cruise, suspension differences and auto hold.

I say be patient because there are deals out there. I was set on that '09 and even had an offer on the table, but the dealer and I were $1500 apart and neither would budge. They wanted $25800 with 37k on it. Well I walked and just a few weeks later my cargurus.com alert went off. Picked up a '10 4.6 tech with 13K on it for $25K out the door (TTL + dealer fee). That was after getting up to leave 3 times, but they came around. Difference here? The dealer with the '09 paid too much for it and couldn't move (I found this out after they sold it eventually as the sales rep went to high school with my wife). The dealer with the '10 took the couple trading it in for a ride because there are not that many comparable 4.6 Genesis in my market and they used that to their advantage I believe. Be patient, there are deals and you'll most likely see quite a few more '10s on the market this spring/summer as leases run out or people that bought $40K+ new move on to something else.

I paid cash, but you can go to Edmunds and use their payment calculator. If I had to finance the car I would bring in my own financing. I learned that lesson with the first car I bought where the finance manager was using the rates as leverage. I remember he kept saying he could give me a lower interest rate if I bought the extended warranty. I also traded my 2008 Azera Limited with 175k miles for $6000 which I was very happy to get.

A friend of mine bought a new Camry for $24k last week, and I think I got a lot more car and paid less than him.

Bought a 2010 4.6 Tech with 14000 miles on it a month ago gave 25,500.00 for it. Dealer wanted 27,9 for it. They sat on my offer for half a month but I kept after them and they came around.

I went the credit union route keeps the finance guys fangs out of ya I pay $335 a month for 72 at 2.99. Not going to take that long at all but it nice to have that breathing room if something where to change.

Patience kills in these situations. Your are correct with there being more 09's than 10's but the price difference is not really that great plus one thing you might look at is the 09's might not get the same interest rate as a 10. Plus why not get a newer ride with more options and niceties if the price is the same? Edmond's has great tools for calculating loan payment tax and title by state as well as the true market value for Genny's in your area. Also remember if buying out of state you are responsible for tax and title not the dealer so be sure to take that into account when buying a car.

Vermillion3: thanks for the info. Sounds like you got a great deal. I think that's a damn good price, especially considering what they were originally asking. Did you put any money down, or did you finance the full $25,500? A payment of $335 isn't bad at all! I'm thinking of doing what almost every person has said on this post - be patient and get a 2010.

Thanks Jda8 I am loving it! She is a bad a$$ ride! I put 3,500 down and financed the remaining 22. If you have a car already you can use it as trade in or sell it privately and then put that money toward amount owed on the Genny or use it to get the extended warranty.

Another thing you might want to keep in mind is if you are thinking about getting the HPP extended warranty and you do not buy the car from a Hyundai dealer or get it at the time of purchase; they do not offer financing for the HPP on its own. At least that is the story that they told me and I could not get anyone at Hyundai Motors USA to tell me other wise.

Although the Hyundai warranty for second owners is 5 years 60000 miles the head unit is only for 3 years 36000 miles with the Genny being such a tech laden ride in the first place it would behoove you to at least think about getting the HPP to cover your rear.
