The check engine light on my 2012 3.6 base genesis kept coming on and flashing. Each time I would bring the car in, the dealer said that there was cylinder misfires, but could not figure out the reason for these.
First visit they reset the codes and said bring it back in if it happens again. Thanks. Happened again. Second visit they did the same saying it may be a coil going bad. Happened again. Third visit they replaced a coil. Happened again. Fourth visit, they replaced another coil and the spark plugs. Happened again. At this point, I told them they better figure this thing out. They rented me a car for the 7 days they had my genesis. They replaced the fuel injector and spark plugs. Finally fixed.
When I picked up the car, the service manager told me that it turns out Hyundai informed them that there has been some problems with fuel injectors malfunctioning/failing, but Hyundai has not officially issued a service bulletin for it because they do not want to acknowledge the issue.
If you get a flashing check engine light with the car rough on accelerating, then the light goes solid and the service people tell you that you had a cylinder misfire. Tell them to replace the fuel injector.
