  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The check engine light on my 2012 3.6 base genesis kept coming on and flashing. Each time I would bring the car in, the dealer said that there was cylinder misfires, but could not figure out the reason for these.

First visit they reset the codes and said bring it back in if it happens again. Thanks. Happened again. Second visit they did the same saying it may be a coil going bad. Happened again. Third visit they replaced a coil. Happened again. Fourth visit, they replaced another coil and the spark plugs. Happened again. At this point, I told them they better figure this thing out. They rented me a car for the 7 days they had my genesis. They replaced the fuel injector and spark plugs. Finally fixed.

When I picked up the car, the service manager told me that it turns out Hyundai informed them that there has been some problems with fuel injectors malfunctioning/failing, but Hyundai has not officially issued a service bulletin for it because they do not want to acknowledge the issue.

If you get a flashing check engine light with the car rough on accelerating, then the light goes solid and the service people tell you that you had a cylinder misfire. Tell them to replace the fuel injector.

This happened to my 2012 3.8 Tech also...it was diagnosed by a Hyundai engineer (correctly) the first time. Apparently the techs at my local Hyundai service center were at a loss to explain it and phoned in the complaint to a Hyundai engineer.

You're lucky. I wish I had a dealership with a half way decent service department around here.

My Genesis 4.6 (2010) is in the shop as I write this for continued misfire issues. Plugs have been replaced; ground wires reset; fuel injectors cleaned; on & on and still not fixed. Hope to know more tomorrow. I think the Regional Hyundai techs are not willing / able to get to the bottom of the issue. What's crazy is I actually still like the car, but this is getting tiring.

I suspect the V6 Gasoline Direct Injection Fuel Injector problem described above is probably different than the one you are experiencing.

Some V8's have had misfire problems caused by starting the engine and immediately shutting it off, and then later restarting it, causing a major misfire during restart. Usually the damage to internal engine parts has not been serious when this occurs, but for some they had to have their engine replaced. Obviously, Hyundai is going to be reluctant to do that if your engine is still working (sort of). I would contact HMA directly.

My 2010 4.6 V8 has been in the shop now for one week +, but I've been relatively happy with the diagnosis process of my "misfire" issues. The misfires have been confined to cylinder 1, with the exception of one instance. As stated earlier, the tech's have replaced all plugs, upper manifold service including inspection and cleaning of all injectors, and finally installed a new ECM. This service episode has been escalated to higher levels than the Regional Rep. They thought the ECM replacement was the cure. Upon starting the car again over the weekend, they found continued misfires on cylinder one. Pulled the valve cover and they found a cracked valve spring!! It had NOT made any engine noise while running, so this had not been suspected earlier, so they say. It seems that there have been some cases of crack valve springs in other vehicles. Now they have to order the spring, replace it and test again...how is it that I actually still like this car?? Crazy, but I do unless we can't get this situation cured pretty fast.

I have the exact same issue. Have you sorted out a root cause for this?
