If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Chrome side trim on 3.8

Has anyone out there purchased any chrome side trim lately? If so, from where? I'm looking for about how much I should pay. It would appear that the prices have risen significantly since some of the earlier posts. Also, does anyone know what the difference is between the OEM chrome and the aftermarket?

I don't know what you mean about the prices rising significantly. Where????

This is the item that I bought at the same price that I paid for it. The trim arrived in OEM boxes. It is not an aftermarket product.

Thanks for the response Ernie. I had noticed some of the earlier posts had purchased the OEM at $120 or less and now I'm seeing around $150 as in the link you posted.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

I wouldn't quibble for 30 bucks if you can't find the same OEM product elsewhere for less. Don't forget that you will be saving considerable labor charges because you will be installing this yourself in 30 minutes, or less. A local body shop guy told me they could do this job for around $600. I laughed in his face.

This brand is cheaper, but it is not OEM. This claims to be stainless, while the OEM is plastic. I would stick with the OEM product.

Thanks again Ernie. I tend to agree with staying with the OEM. Looking at the aftermarket, it appears to be a stick-on product which would require being very thin in order to give the proper appearance. Thin metal dents easily and dented chrome sticks out like a sore thumb from a mile away. One question, how long did it take to receive your order from the website you mentioned previously?

Delivery took about one week.

OEM chrome side trim arrived from Korea today. It took 10 days to get here which I think is very acceptable. I installed it in just minutes. It looks even better than I expected against the dark blue paint. Very happy with the results. Reading about this chrome trim on the forum has been kinda entertaining. It seems lots of guys with the original chrome say they would rather have the painted and lots of guys with the painted want the chrome. Go figure.

Retry, STICK TO OEM!!! In my "modding" experience, when it comes to "cosmetic" modifications, OEM is usually much better than aftermarket. The reason being; OEM has to be made to last (for awhile at least), otherwise there would be a lot of customer complaints (lousy materials and workmanship, etc), whereas aftermarket may look good initially, but usually only give you a 90 day warranty. I've had experience with both and OEM has always won out on quality, longevity and workmanship. The problem is usually OEM costs a lot more than aftermarket, but once again, it seems there are a lot of places now where you can purchase OEM merchandise for up to 75% less than what the dealer wants to charge you!

Having said that, I found a "local" (in the U.S.) guy on ebay with the OEM chrome side molding, all four for 127.99 and free shipping within 1-4 days! Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/09-Hyundai-...dai|Model:Genesis&hash=item3a828bb02d&vxp=mtr

In case the link doesn't work, do a search for this item: "09+ Hyundai OEM Mobis Geniune Genesis Sedan Side Chrome Moulding Trip Garnish" and the name of the seller is nicesports007; he has 3 available and he has 100% positive feedback.

Yes Silver Gen, I ordered, received, and installed the OEM. LOOKS GREAT! Cost $119 + shipping.

I have a 2010 whine Genny with chrome trim, and I want the color matching side pieces if anyone wants to trade hit me up. If your close we can meet somewhere and do the swap.

Enthusiastic new owner reviving an old thread. Not only that, but I'm dying to remove all chrome from my 2012 5.0 R-Spec & make absolutely every piece of trim black.

I read through this thread, followed the links, did some of my own searches, & came up empty trying to find black trim.

Did any of the previous posters follow through with their black trim quest? If so, have you any links or vendors?

While on this topic, are the other chrome bits as easily replaced with body color pieces? (Stripes on bumpers, trunk stripe, etc. or were those never available in black body color?

Thanks!
-Jason

Jason, I have perfect black, and would like chrome - I'd do an even swap, if you were interested -

Let me know. I live in PA.

Jerry

Hi Jerry-

Definitely!

I've been getting quotes on vinyl/Plasti-Dip/paint/etc. for these & pretty much the rest of the trim, but a straight swap is preferable & will save me some $ on my efforts.

My research also found that the spare trim can be purchased in chrome or "ready to paint." I guess these are attached at the factory before the doors are painted.

I'd reply via PM, but I want to post here in the thread to confirm that my 2012 is compatible with your 2011. Did these trim pieces stay the same across the cosmetic refresh?

Thanks,
-Jason

I found a little time to dig up the trim pieces for 2011 & 2012, & they are indeed a match.

Not sure if these links will work, but I'll try:

2011: http://www.jimellishyundaiparts.com...odel=14684&modelYear=2011&ukey_category=19639
2012: http://www.jimellishyundaiparts.com...odel=14684&modelYear=2012&ukey_category=19639

It's the category of Trim/Side Trim & Moulding.

On both cars, I see the same PNs:
87711N Front Left Door: $56.14 (for unpainted?), $105.66 for "Bright-A Type" (chrome?)
87712N Front Right Door: $56.14 (for unpainted?), $105.66 for "Bright-A Type" (chrome?)
87721A Rear Right Door: $38.73 (for unpainted?), $82.53 for "Bright-A Type" (chrome?)
87721N Left Right Door: $36.66 (for unpainted?), $82.53 for "Bright-A Type" (chrome?)

So, I now see that we seem to be in business, Jerry. Please PM me.

Thanks,
-Jason

I actually ordered 2nd pair from eBay again.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-2014-4...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20e13cc69d

I am in VA, so I contacted to them for local pick up. They allowed me to come to their warehouse to pick up. They even installed on my vehicle very professionally. I checked the parts along with OEM boxes when they brought out to the door.
I took 20 mins on my first 10' Genesis but broke couple clips.
But Buy-Part crew did very will and kept all original clips.

I am still loving with my 13' Genesis, but not sure about new one to lease as my next vehicle yet.

Has anybody lease new Genesis from previous model?

Wonder if Jason and Jerry (above) ever swapped side trim pieces?

Hey Ernie -

We have not quite yet , but we will - and it is 100% on me, life is just getting in the way of me getting time to get these off and shipped out to Jason. We will though!

Keep us posted on the results! Be sure to refresh the 3M tape on each trim strip and have some extra clips on hand in case any break during removal.

I have a 12 Rspec and I just had all my chrome trim covered with gloss black vinyl and it looks so much more aggressive!
