Replacement remote keyless entry fob

Let us now how the "birthday present" scheme works out!

Have had a ton of problems with lost fob replacement, buying private, through ebay, etc.. Had to jump through many hoops, avoid dealers, go to private locksmiths, get letters from locksmiths that could not program, etc, etc. Had BIG problems with AmeX, MC, getting my money back, finally did.

My conclusions:
1. Someone remarked on this forum that a new Genesis Key Fob could be programmed to one VIN numbered vehicle only. It could be re programmed to that very vehicle, but no other. Seems to be a safety or security matter. Hyundai, and their dealers will not confirm this. I have come to believe it is true. It would be nice if we could get a "YES" or "NO" on this from Hyundai, for the benefit of us all!

2. Save your time and frustration and do without the spare, or cut the best price you can from your dealer on a new factory one. Life is really too short.

3 vehicles listed, none of them Genesis, and NONE OF THE THREE even allow programming of the remote by yourself. Ummm what am I missing, or autoexpert did you not check that link first?

OP: I have yet to see a tried and true way to DIY program Genny key fob posted anywhere. Go to the dealer and pay what they ask. Shop dealers if you can to cut down on the cost, or try and leverage in an oil change or other service to take the sting off.

Has any one dealt with "AutoTransponder.com" based in Ohio, which seems to have a suitable new FOB and emergency key?

Preevyet Goodduffer,
You have a premium vehicle & I would assume it is under warranty, why take a chance on anything other than an original Hyundai KeyFob.. If a third party unit causes issues you may have trouble getting warranty work covered......

Just curious, did you finance the car through the dealer? I wonder if this is happening (only getting one key) when they give the other key to the finance company)?

If it happened to me, I would demand that the dealer who sold it to you replace the other key, and even if they declined I would demand that they do it at dealer cost.

I'm seriously considering a local Automotive Locksmith who can supply a factory original FOB programed and emerg. key laser cut with 90 day warranty for about $100 less than the dealer where I bought the car.

I paid cash and as I said above the dealer's best offer (which he claimed was his cost) was still $100 more than the local locksmith.

I'm also probably going to buy the Hyundai factory 2-yr. extended warranty, but likely not at the dealer where I bought the car that short-changed me the second key

This is all a little bit insane.

Bought a 2015 Genesis yesterday - came with two fobs.

I wanted a third for a spare. Was told first that the "car would only allow two". Then I was told that If I swore that I had lost one, then I could buy a new one for $400.

Now, looking at "aftermarket sources, etc" , the information on getting and programming a third fob is all over the place.

Glad I kept my old sonata so I go some place if I misplace the fobs for the genesis
