In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey guys, just a quick question regarding the rear sun shade. Is there a way to disable it going down when the car goes into reverse and only operates with the button on the door?

Thanks

Other than keeping it down all the time, I doubt it as it's safety related.

That's what I figured would be the case. No real reason for keeping it up all the time other than I don't have to listen to it going up and down every time I put it in reverse which is quite often. Figured less wear on the mechanism and motor for it as well.

I've never noticed mine being noisy. I can hear it if I listen closely but generally don't notice the sound at all.

I too can hear mine and try to take it easy on the shade, but then I remember that I have a warranty for these things so I say "eh" lol

Guys,

What is the purpose of the rear sunshade. I have this, but I can't really think of a reason why I would want it up. Certainly not if I had no rear passengers.

What is being shaded from the sun?

Thanks

I use mine in the summer to reduce the direct sunlight from heating up the interior when I park. I drive with it up for the same reason in hopes it will aid the A/C to some degree (pun intended).

I thought of this, but the shade is black and is on the inside of the car.. All that happens is the shade heats up and then in turn heats the car. Since it is black and directly facing the sun I would imagine it might actually be worse then light incidentally hitting the surfaces of the seats. Especially if you have a tan interior.

I wonder why they did not make the shade a light color.

If you lived where I live you might rethink that. The hot sun shining directly on my upholstery will heat it up to where it will blister your skin if you're wearing shorts. Anything that helps keep that from happening is a good thing.

I appreciate that, but you really get that much sun on the seats from the back window? The sides I can understand...

Ever hear of ARIZONA? :D That's one reason; however say you are driving east with a SETTING SUN behind you. Blinding. Sun shade helps. Or you are drive west with a rising sun behind you. Sun shade helps. Or in the middle of the day when sun is high, it blocks excess light from the sun from entering the cabin....and so on and so forth.

Yes I have been all over Arizona. Nice State! You make valid points, however, I still feel these are very specific situations that when they do arise do not last very long and overall are a minimal nuisance.

I am not sure what the cost of the rear shade is, but I would certainly not order it except that it is part of a package. I would have rather the additional coin be used for a remote start.

But hey... To each there own..

Cheers!

It also extends the life of the leather on the top of the back seats. That's why I have had it on my Mercedes, that and it lowers the interior temp when parked in sun(especially if the rear is facing south).

Yeah buddy, I know what that Athens heat is like too. I wish I had a shade for the side windows and windshield too! I'm thinking of having my windows tented next summer to as dark the law allows and there is a limit in my state.

Now imagine Residential window Tint!!!!! I just opened up a whole new section!! Bam!!

They have this... My neighbor has it on some of his windows that face south west and get a lot of afternoon sun..

:D Exactly!

Every window in my house has aftermarket tint film applied to it. Additionally, the southern and western facing windows have those roller sunscreen shades that you often see in restaurants, etc. The payback in increased comfort and reduced air conditioning costs is huge. These measures also reduce sun glare discomfort year-round.
