  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm willing to bet this car will give the Genesis coupe a run for the $$

This has been some good reading, lol. But yes, the coupe is NOT that fast. I blew away one in my trailblazer ss before i got the genesis. Now thats a big ass vehicle.

I'm very curious as to why the 3.8 coupe is so slow (comparatively speaking). I would think it would turn ~5.0 or less from 0-60 but cannot find one stinking test that shows that.

It makes me wonder how slow the 4.6L and 3.8L sedans really are. Case in point, I was riding next to a (new) Maxima the other day and saw he was trying to speed up to cut in front of me. I was having none of that so I floored it and was "barely" able to hold him off. I have no way of knowing if he floored his Maxima of not, but, I was so surprised my Genny only dropped to 4th gear going only ~45mph once it was floored. (make sense?)

I'm sure I could have manually down-shifted it and had better results, but, was a little disappointed with the lack of "kick" I got from my 4.6L sedan. *sigh*

Next time I'm in a similar situation I'll definitely manually shift vs depending on the tranny to decide for me. ;)

Did you push past the dentent when flooring it?

The gearing and transmission play a huge role in acceleration too. These 8 speed trans are doing nothing for acceleration. Neither are the 6 speed manuals. More shifts = slower acceleration.

The Maxima goes around 3500-3600 lbs. with almost 300HP. That's not at all surprising.

maxima also has CVT (good or bad), FWD (should have less parasitic drivetrain loss).

genesis has quite a bit of sound insulation.

maxima is also smaller too ?

honestly the genesis performance is decent, great compared to the Hyundai econo offerings. however is average with similar vehicles such as maxima.

they say the 5.0 is a 4.6 0-60 car... but for the average driver id wager 5.5-6. On a tangent... put wider summer tires on the car and I can see the car making lower the 5 sec.

I think the opposite the 8 speed for the first 5 gears seems to be very close ratio so it keeps it in the powerband quite nicely.

Yes, a little smaller, which is offset by the G having another 40HP and more torque, but the bottom line is, pretty much everything in the V6 sedan class moves along pretty well nowadays and would have been "fast" 20 years ago. Only ultra exotics would have run with performance sedans of today. In the later '70's and early '80's I was sure performance was dead. I remember my '77 Trans Am with a 403 Olds motor making a whopping 185 HP with full smog regalia (air injection AKA smog pump, fake duals with single choked out cat, EGR), Rochester vacuum secondary 4 barrel, turbo 350, and 2.41 gears............................
Ouch.

Ain't it the truth about performance being dead. I thought it was gone in the mid 70s when many of the "clean air" crap was being crammed into cars along with retarded ignition, smog pumps, lower compression, etc.

I often think of how different things are today when Ford puts out a 662 HP engine that meets EPA smog tests and doesn't even have the GAS GUZZLER tax!! 20-30 yrs ago I would never have believed it....... heck even 10 yrs ago I would have thought it impossible.

One correction..... the Maxima has ~300hp (I think it's 302) and my Genny supposedly has 375hp even if it weighs 400-500 more pounds. I dunno about all this stuff, but just saying I was surprised at being barely able to hold off the Maxima and having NO idea if this guy had floored his car which would not seem likely as he really had a fair amount of room to accelerate and pull in front of me since he had NO clue I was just waiting for such a situation. :D

Obviously, none of you have driven one like mine (hence all the bullshit commentary lodged at me out of pure jealousy). The 6-spd Manual gearing in the 3.8 R-Spec Coupe is a pain in traffic and takes getting used to at normal speeds because it feels like granny gearing, but light it up and it's ideal for racing/sport driving, particularly with the R-Spec suspension and Torsen diff and perfectly-balanced weight distribution. The 1st/2nd shift is critical, of course, and because of the wide powerband and relatively low 1st, the gear spacing is perfect. You wouldn't know (or accept) all that driving a family car with an 8-spd slushie on which you spent twice or three times the money.

Not sure who you are directing that post to, Top Gear, but your car is not fast. The sedans are not fast. There is no bullshit commentary coming from me. I realize reality and facts about production cars.

Get into the 12s in the 1/4 mile and you can start talking "fast", I suppose.

Personally, I don't consider anything "fast" until it breaks into the 11's. There are simply too many cars in the 12's for that to impress me. I seriously doubt that anyone who could afford to spend "twice or three times the money" as what a G coupe costs is jealous. It's a nice, fun car, but it's not a luxury car, a race car, or a fast car.

+1. Took my thoughts right outta' my head!! :D

No one in here is jealous of your budget coupe bro... Secondly, I would recommend enrolling in a basic math class (elementary level would work) - maybe one that focuses on ratios or fractions.
