  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Complimentary GPS update from Hyundai Assurance

I had a Sonata Hybrid w/nav while my car was in service yesterday. The navigation is light years ahead of the Genesis unit. Don't have to specifiy street names and it actually finds businesses near your location.

The Genesis finds nearby businesses and indicates the distance on the list and I use it often.

it's hit or miss. (example: there's this little tire company in Akron - hmm, think it's called Goodyear - with HQ at 200 Innovation Way. there is no such road in the updated nav.) but generally it's useful.

the electronics in this (and most rentals i've driven in the past yr - Ford, Chrysler, GM, Toyota) all feel like "software developed by a car company", rather than software developed by a software developer for a car.

still beats the heck out of what was there even 20 yrs ago.

In the case of the location of Goodyear, it may be a private road and if so, private roads may not be listed. Some developments do all their own repairs etc and the Roads are classified as private drives. ( I served as a Planning Commissioner a few years back)

Glad yours does. Mine doesn't locate a Target that has been around for more than 6 years. Sends me to one 10 miles away.

I'm in OH now, and the house address does not show up. Even if I manually 'adjust' the home point, it won't 'find' or display the address (and we're on a road that's been around for decades.

From your post it seems as though the company that did the data gathering for Hyundai left out Arizona. I live in north Georgia and the update added numerous new roads and also shows my Bank's Branches, major oil companies gas stations, etc. If you want to vary/change the routing just add a waypoint.

Rift- sorry about your luck in OH. just in time for rain and slush-fest (better than the 6"+ snow on the ground now). :D

Home- the GY road is public. my own (also public) road has been here for 150+ yrs. nav has it labeled as something no one around here's ever heard of. (shrugs)

fwiw, my buddy's beemer nav is just as goofy. car companies shouldn't write software. unless they're named tesla (oops, wrong thread) ...

Road names on map software is what the official name is as recorded in the local Government data. If no change was officially recorded regarding a road name then the old name stays even if It has been renamed by developers and or property owners.

We have a 2012 Honda Civic EXL and its NAVI system sucks as well.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
There are streets where I live that were here when the town was built in the 1800s and some of these streets are not listed........... and they want $345 for an update?! Heck, I'll pull out my little 4 y/o Garmin and do better than that. I just hate having that darn thing sitting on my dash of my $40K car!!!!!!

Genesis Nav Accuarcy

I've been using the 'new' update now for a few weeks. The NAV still SUCKS. My home was built in 1993. We just purchased it in May. It does not exist on this sucky NAV unit. I'm finding businesses that have been around for years don't exist in this sucky NAV unit. The routing is horrid, and the interface, well, sucks. I've been using it a lot to get a real feel for it, and the voice commands? Terrible. Unless they do something drastic to this NAV setup, I may never buy another Genesis. It's really bad to say it but my $150 Garmin ROCKS the beejeeezus out of the Genny's NAV system.

Sounds like this type of problem way be very regional. Our neighborhood was built in 2002 and all of the streets are accurate. A newer nearby neighborhood went in in 2009 and that is also accurate on the latest nav update. One problem: I live at #95. The Genesis nav insists that I live at #96 and there is no such number. Minor problem. Once home, I'm pretty sure which house is mine.

The nav unit is not sucky, the data that is compiled by humans and supplied to the map software company is incorrect for some areas. You know the old computer saying "garbage in equals garbage out".

The UI is horrible. The DIS is a failure on multiple levels. The software adds icing to the cake.

We like the UI, but I understand everyone has there own likes and dislikes. Having owned Acura, BMW and two Mercedes I can say for my wife and I the Genesis DIS is much more user friendly than our other cars. The software in the Genesis is light years ahead of my Mercedes which has the latest update from Mercedes.

This has been a very confusing user experience for me, a new Hyundai owner. I recently (about a month ago) purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2011 Genesis 3.8 Sedan. The day after I got it home I reached out to the dealer about the maps with what I thought was a simple question: Can you confirm that I have the latest map update in my car?

After several days and no response, I did a lttle googling and reached out to MNSoft, the maker of the mapping software. I called them and gave them my version number which is:
03.00.00 2012.09.01.01 They said that this number was not a number that they were familiar with and that I was looking for a single digit; that I should be on "version 6" and that they did not have any information about the number that I gave them. I found this to be impossible but maybe the person I spoke with just didn't know.

I then contacted Hyundai USA and they were polite but referred me back to my dealer. So I call the dealer again and they say, "No, these are not the newest maps... bring it in for an update." So after some discussion with the sales and service guys I schedule an appointment to bring it in for a map update at no charge. My position was that on a CPO car with a mapping system, the maps should be the most current maps available.

So I bring the car in for the map update and the dealer calls me later that day to tell me that it had already been done prior to the car being sold. They gave me a copy of the service record that showed "Nav system update" that was installed about 3 weeks before I bought the car. Fair enough.

But then I started reading here and two things started to bug me. The first was that my system seems to have a date of 2012.09.01 then if my read of that part of the version number is correct then I havea version from either September or January of 2012; in either case, I'm thinking that the newest version is from October 2013. The (useless) guy from MNSoft did tell me that version 6 came out in October. So I'm thinking that this should be in the date somewhere.

So I call back Hyundai USA and tell them my long sad story and that I don't feel like I have gotten a straight answer from the dealer or the manufacturer and that someone, somewhere has got to know what the number 03.00.00 2012.09.01.01 means exactly and if there is a more current version availble. They agree and agree to follow up. AND THEY DID!

So I just got a message the other day from Hyundai USA saying that they looked into it and that based on the number I gave them that I have version 3 and that I should go get version 6 installed.

So I'm bringing my car back to the dealer on Friday and basically telling them, I know that you told me that I have the most current maps on the car but Hyundai USA says I don't and I want them so please install them.

I'll let you know how it goes.

In the meantime, is there anyone out there who is an authority on what that version number means?

I received the free update & have had no problems. I didn't realize it took 3 hours with the engine running & it used up 1/2 tank of gas. If I had been aware I might have insisted on a battery charger be used if in fact that is the solution. I'm not sure if it is. I would think it would be a "no-brainer" for the dealer to do that.

My dealer service mgr. said that when they used a charger instead of engine running that the update would sometimes freeze, so they keep the cars running and have no problems.

homeofstone, my dealer said the same thing. They did the update with the engine running as they claimed this is more reliable than using a charger. No way did it use up a half-tank of gas though. Heck, I can't use up a half a tank in 3 hours driving 70 mph!
