  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Complimentary GPS update from Hyundai Assurance

Would someone who has a 2012 or so and has had the latest update give our the DIS firmware, and GPS update numbers off the display? I was told they had a new one coming out late this fall. I would like to get mine done again if they did.

Not exactly answering your question as I'd like to know also....... BUT, I've talked to 3 peeps who "should" know what they're talking about and all three of them (without knowledge of what I had been told by others) said updates generally come out in October...... no one said it was in stone, but, speaking generally. So far that seems to be true.
Hope this helps a bit.

It helps. Heard the same thing. Thanks.

homeofstone, my dealer said the same thing. They did the update with the engine running as they claimed this is more reliable than using a charger. No way did it use up a half-tank of gas though. Heck, I can't use up a half a tank in 3 hours driving 70 mph!

I have no way to verify that having the engine running vs hooked to a battery charger is the better way to do the update........ but, it sure as heck doesn't make any sense that one way would be better than the other..... however, with these cars being some computer dependent these days, nothing is out of the real of possibilities anymore.

Partial reply form my Christmas post:

Brought the car in to have it updated. They had the car all day, when they were done they said that they had put "Version 6" on it. I could tell that they had pulled my discs out of the changer. They said all went fine and that it took 3-4 hours.

So when it get in the car the version number is the same as it was when I dropped it off (03.00.00 2012.09.01.01).

So they did the update but the version number is the same? I believe them; that they worked on the car. So that leads me to believe one of a couple of possibilities:

1. I have had the current maps the whole time and since no one could provide a clear, authoritative understanding of what the version number actually means I (along with my dealer and Hyundai USA customer service) have been chasing ghosts and wasting a bunch of time.

2. The update they did the other day didn't "take" for some reason.

I didn't leave the dealership without showing them that the version number was the same. They were baffled and could not explain this but said they'd get back to me. Nothing yet.

I also sent the whole story to Hyundai USA and I heard back from them almost immediately that they would look into it and get back to me but nothing yet. I'll keep you posted.

This would all be solved if we could get someone to tell us what the version number on the GPS display in our cars means. Seems to me like that is the point of providing a version number to begin with... so you can easily tell if you need an update.

I got the free update card in late October 2013 with an expiration date of November 31, 2013. When I contacted the dealer I was told they didn't have the new update and they didn't expect it until December or January. I ask about the expiration date and was told it would be no problem. Took my 2011 Genesis in last week and got the free update. (03.00.00 2012.09.01.01) Don't know if it is the latest and greatest but it is newer that the one I had. Didn't notice any less fuel in the tank.

So today I finally got from MnSoft a definitive answer on my version number:

System: Welcome to web chat!
System: All representatives are busy assisting other customers. Please wait for the next available representative.

Tom: Anyone?

Timothy: That is the most current map.

Timothy: The 2012.09.01 is version 6

Glad to know this. I wish I wouldn't have had to waste so much time getting this info but now I know.

For what it's worth, this is what shows up on my NAV screen info after my update last Nov. I do not know if it it is current (it was supposed to be) and now, no matter where I go, the elevation is 1000' !

Version 03.00.00 2012.09.01.01

Does anybody know if the complimentary update was ever offered on the 2012 MY Genesis?
