  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

We have a small boat - whole outfit (boat, motor, trailer) under 1000lbs.
We have been waiting to see if the new Genny would be all wheel drive (which all Canadian cars appear to be) cause we didn't want to use our 2010 Genny (rear wheel only) to tow cause I've seen too many people spinning rear wheels on a launch ramp.
The manual says towing not recommended. Presumably the new Genny will say the same thing.
Does this mean it will screw my warranty if I tow a boat such as mine, cause we like to go fishing maybe 4 or 5 times a year.
Has anyone towed with their Genny and what potential harm (with a small load) is there

Thanks

As an aside, we spent some time in Hollland this year and I watched a guy pull a 23 ft cabin boat out of the water with a BMW 3 series (with a stick) Somehow I don't think that's a good idea:eek:

I tow with my 2010 4.6 sedan. Curt makes a hitch that works well but is tricky to install and they supply a plug and play harness for the 4 wire flat plug. The car performs well and I have towed my motorcycle on its trailer(about 1200 lbs) coast to coast a couple of times with no ill effects. Have all my service done at the dealer and they have never once mentioned the hitch. The only problem with the hitch is that it reduces the departure angle in the rear and will sometimes scrape on steep driveways and of course the fuel economy hit when towing. The Kia Borego was approved for towing with essentially the same power trains as the Genesis.

I think Hyundai is probably more concerned about the structure of the vehicle itself. They probably didn't design it with towing in mind.

Exactly. Towing more than manufacturer ratings can damage your frame.

Do you ahve a picture of the rear with the hitch?

I am considering adding one to my 4.6 to tow my MC (hate towing it, prefer to ride) to a location with the GF for a college reunion....

Been looking for a picture of a hitch on a 12+ Gen. Want to tow a track bike.

There was another post with pictures...looked great.

I went ahead and had Uhaul install mine... 400 or so with all the ball, wiring..etc.

Can you post up some photos? Or post the link to the thread, I can't seem to find it.

I can post some pics later this weekend as well.

I got mine from Uhaul installed with everything for about 400 or so.

Tooke them 3 hours to complete (drop off at 8:30 pick up 11:30).

they did a great job... I just needed to peel off the UHAUL stickers....

Thanks for the link and the info! I'll probably being going with the UHAUL tow hitch as well.

Just got back from taking my Girl and Belle up to Martha's Vinyard for a little vacation.

Rented a Trailer from U-haul... they did not have the light weight motorcycle one for the trip.. and supplemented a 5x9 ... a little heavier and didn't have a proper motorcycle chock... but a v in the front where the tire would go...

while a little heavy... the Genesis towd beautifully. I used the manual shifting the whole way to minimize the transmission hunting for hte right gears.

the trailer was porky... at 1,200 or so pounds... add on a 800 pound MC

Gas Mileage sucked...but I had belle on the Island and left the trailer / car on the mainland.

Good Time...would push for the lightweight trailer next time... but no regrets.
