Use LED Strip as DRL. How?

Just purchased a 2013 3.8 base Genesis is gorgeous pearl white. I am very pleased with the vehicle.

However, one minor thing that bugs me. The 2012+ model comes with a really cool white led light strip that makes the car really distinctive looking. However, I now find out that it only comes on during at night when your headlights are on.

I would like to use the LED strip come on during day time as well, using it like a DRL is there a work around to do this? I am assuming some wiring has to be tweaked.

Basically, make the LED strip come on with ignition. I don't want to mess with existing DRL, it can come on as well with LED strip.

Would appreciate any feedback on this.

Just turn it on with your parking light setting. You'll also have the added bonus of illuminating your taillights.

Unfortunately in the daylight you can hardly see it lit up unless it's cloudy outside. I keep my headlights on all the time.

It looks like either turning on parking light or headlight on all the time is only option? That does not sound that appealing as taillight/interior dash light will be on all the time as well.

Nobody has figured out how to turn on LED strip without turning the lights on?

They are not designed to be DRLs and, thus, are not bright enough. Wishing is not going to make them true DRLs.

Just a follow-up. We had some boneheads here who actually went so far as to remove their combo DRL/high beam bulbs so that they could look cool and use the eyebrow accent lamps as pseudo DRLs. Now that was smart.

It is a shame, Genesis has one of the best looking LED strips but unlike other cars with LED strips, it is not used for DRLs but rather we have the same common DRL that is on my 10+ year minivan.

I haven't taken the lamp assembly apart to look but I wonder what is lighting that strip to begin with, is it a single light strip or a bulb on each end focused through the band? If it's something as simple as a bulb then there might be options to make it brighter. They are on during the daytime if your lights are set to the automatic position along with the DRL's.

If you are a firemen (blue) or Medic (green) it could be handy responding to a call, otherwise only white or amber is legal in the US. Can you have others in Canada?

As long as it's not red, blue, green, purple or any combination of these colours you can go nuts in most Canadian Provinces or Territories.

I have thought about having a pro take the headlights apart, and running a brighter LED strip that would be hooked up to the DRL/H7 High Beam connection; I hardly use my high beams so they aren't really needed.

Really? Are you 12? People drive in different areas & at different times of the day. I'm not generally out of an urban area with the car, so no, I don't need high beams.

Sure, you could always take along a flashlight if you ever need to drive into the suburbs, or dodge a moose out in the country. Hahaha! You are only driver I’ve ever met who doesn’t want high beams.

Wire the strip directly to the AFLS wire (bottom row, blue/black wire); and remove the DLR relay and fuse, so your high beams don’t light up unless the actual high beams are on via switch. It won’t come on with the parking lights, but it will every time you turn on or start your car.
