Dunlop Tire Issues.................

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope all is well with you all. About 3 weeks ago I finally went out and purchased a certified 2013 Genny with the standard package, 19,000 miles on it, night shadow brown in color with cashmere leather interior. I've my own wing package and the V8 chrome door molding on it. I have to say I really liking my car. But I have one problem.... Those Dunlop tires are freaking terrible. It makes the car sounds like a 4x4 coming down the street. I've had the bearings checked on it and those came out to being good. So now I'm looking to replace the crappy ass Dunlops with a much better tire for this car. I been looking into the Kuhmo LX Platinum as they gotten some good reviews. Any other tire suggestions? My car has 17's

lot of tire stuff on here - suggest using search. lot of positive comments on Bridgestone Serenity Plus and Continental Extreme Contact DWS, but largely dependent upon driving style, location, and personal taste.

I cannot comment with the Genesis, but my favorite tire in the world for that size is the Michelin MXV4. I have had multiple sets on many different cars over the years, and they are far and away the best I have ever ridden. In my humble opinion, the MXV4 smokes other Michelin tires tires, and they smoke Goodyear, Dunlop, Bridgstone, Pirelli, and Continental for similar-sized applications.

I have not driven Kumho, General, Yokohama, Sumitomo, Hankook, Firestone, and the others that make compatible tires for the Genesis, so I cannot comment on those.

If you are looking for the sure, low-risk decision, go with Michelin MXV4 tires. You will not be disappointed.

There are endless discussions in this forum about the crappiness of the OEM Dunlops. I replaced mine with Bridgestone Serenity's which are great.

I can tell you without reservation that the 17" tire you want is the Michelin Primacy MXV4 (not MXM4 which is a different tire). You will not hear much about this tire on this forum because the Primacy is not available for the Genesis sedan 18" sizes, but is for the 17" Base Trim models.

Also, up through March 2, 2014 you can get $70 off a set of 4 Michelin Tires at Costco. Costco is the best tire installer I have ever used, since they use nitrogen gas (does not leak as fast as air), road hazard insurance is included in the price, and 7500 mile rotations are included in the price. The have skilled technicians with Michelin training and certifications, not high school kids like some shops. Even if you don't have a Costco membership card ($55 per year), the $70 will pay for it and let you buy a bunch of food and other stuff at discount prices for a year.

There are actually 2 different Michelin MXV4's:

• Energy MXV4
• Primacy MXV4

They are both very good tires, but the Primacy has a little better ride comfort. Unfortunately, the Primacy MXV4 does not come in the Genesis 18" tire sizes, but does come in the Genesis 17" size (it does come in some 18" sizes, but not the exact same size as the 2009-2014 Genesis 18" OEM size).

Also check out the Continental Pure Contact tires. These are getting extremely good ratings on TireRack.com with very good winter grip and traction ratings.

The good news about the Dunflops (pun intended) is that they will probably be worn out soon (if they were the originals) as most people only get 15-25k out of them. They do get really noisy as they wear.

No one else on this forum could either. Back in 2009-2011 the Dunlops were on all Genesis models. Since 2012 only on Base Trim models.

I always had the Michelin's on the the majority of my autos. These days they have gotten very pricey with them. These Dunlops are my first and very last experience with these. Now I been looking to purchase the Kuhmo Lx Platimun based off the good reviews about them and they have a 60K warranty.

I have owned both, and I really do not remember noticing any material difference. Is your comparison based on personal experience or reviews?

I currently have the Primacy MXV4 on my Genesis, and I previously used the Energy MXV4 on another car, but that was at least 10 years ago. I don't think there is a material difference between the two, and they are both very good tires.

If someone needs superior grip and braking in wet conditions (at slight expense of handling ability), there is also a new tire called the Michelin Premier A/S that should be considered. I have no personal experience with this tire, but read about it on Michelin website.

I have been running KUMHO ECSTA LX Platinum tires on my Honda for years. Great tire.
