No Lane Centering for '15 Genesis

I was really hoping that the new Genesis would have automatic Lane Centering as part of its Lane Keep Assist feature, but according to an email response I received from Hyundai national customer service, they have not heard of it.

Too bad, because several of its competitors already have it.

It's a great feature for long highway drives.
 
According to Hyundai USA website, the 2015 has this optional feature:

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING WITH LANE KEEP ASSIST-2

The Lane Keep Assist on the Genesis automatically detects when a driver has difficulty staying in their lane and helps by using gentle steering compensation above 43 MPH. The Genesis will even provide haptic feedback through steering wheel vibration when the vehicle drifts outside the lane without signaling. Additionally, the Lane Departure Warning will alert the driver with an audio cue, or a visual warning on the Heads-up Display.
 
Yeah, from everything I read it does have it. The only driving aides that didn't make it over here is the around-view camera(disappointed in that; wonder if there's a way to add it) and the automatic parking. Really, I think I am going to turn all that stuff off anyway.

Also disappointed this does not make it - not a deal killer, but a missed opportunity. It requires cameras in the side mirrors and front and back, so a retrofit is probably problematic. Could care less for the auto park and would likely never use it.
 
The lack of the auto-park feature on the new Genesis will likely be a deal-breaker for my girlfriend. She'll be looking for another car later this year and has been in love with the idea of a car that can parallel park for her, or back itself into spots as needed. Her vision is a bit compromised while looking behind -whenever she has to back up, and these newer technologies will be a huge help to her. She'll probably stay with her Lincolns, but I SO wanted her to buy a loaded 2015 Genesis! Alas...

Someone had posted links to the Korean Genesis launch videos and they clearly showed a parallel park feature. Seems like a perfect feature for a brand seeking additional cred as a luxury car. Puzzling they're not bringing it over even as an option.

ksoze - 10-4 on not wanting the auto park feature. When i went to test drive the 2014 Chevie SS, the pack of sales folks outside the dealership where surrounding me when i pulled into the dealership. The 1st one to talk to me said, 'are you hear to see the auto park feature on the SS'. I told him, no, I'm not shopping for a car for my wife. He just gave me a blank look.

Whatever, i agree that i'd rather have a number of other features instead of the auto park feature. Regards.

Mark -- Have your girlfriend drive the 2014 Chevie SS. It has the auto park feature, and it will have all the power you desire. Have fun. Regards.
 
I believe there are subtle, but important differences between Lane Keep Assist and automatic Lane Centering. LKA simply steers you back, but LC keeps you centered for long distances between the lane markers.

And, Hyundai national customer service, told me that the '15 Genesis definitely doesn't have automatic Lane Centering.

Me either. Really, I don't get why anyone would want all this technology to detract from the driving experience. I know how to park and keep my car in its lane. The only features I am even remotely interested in is the around view monitor(which even I have to admit is pretty cool) and the automatic trunk. The rest will all be disabled upon my delivery of the 2015 Genesis.
 
Agreed. The technology is getting out of control (and ridiculously expensive to repair). I still think the funniest technology is rain sensing wipers.
 
To each his/ her own, right?

That's why there are options.

Personally, rain sensing wipers work great for me, so I don't have to fiddle with the intermittent adjustments.

And radar cruise and lane centering could work great on the long interstate highway trips that I take.

Some of these technologies are the precursors to autonomous cars which, despite the poo pooing of the so called purists, will save tens of thousands of lives, not to mention injuries, in America every year.
 
"Autonomous cars" HaHaHa! Then again, a car could be smarter than some owners.

Cadillac Super Cruise

Super Cruise is a “seamlessly integrated … fusion” of radar, ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and GPS map data. The radar is the same as on stop-and-go adaptive cruise control (also called full-speed range ACC) that keeps your car at the set speed while slowing if the car ahead slows or if another car cuts across the lanes in front of you. It is capable of strong braking but typically not panic braking. The cameras and sensors make up today’s lane departure warning, which has evolved to lane keep assist, meaning when the car drifts across a lane marker, the car nudges itself back into lane. Lane centering doesn’t wait for the driver to let the car drift but always keeps the car within a couple of inches of the center of the lane. The driver can easily override the car’s steering inputs. There is no tug of war. That hardware is already on the full-size Cadillac XTS and the compact Cadillac ATS; Driver Assist Package ($2,400-$3,600).

According to Cadillac, “Super Cruise is capable of semi-automated driving including hands-off lane following, braking and speed control under certain driving conditions. The system is designed to ease the driver’s workload on freeways only, in bumper-to-bumper traffic and on long road trips; however, the driver’s attention is still required.” It also doesn’t work if the lanes are obscured by snow or inadequate highway maintenance.
 
Just remember that those that brush off advancements such as these as "ridiculous" are driving cars with electronically controlled windows, A/C, stereos, cruise control, auto-headlights, bluetooth, iPod integration, etc... you know, stuff that people in the past have also brushed off as "ridiculous."
