If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Another member had asked me to post the problems I have with my 2014 Genesis R Spec sedan that I picked up in Feb. Have gone to the dealer and was asked to set up an appointment end of March because the tech that works on the Genesis is on vacation until then. We will see how they do, this is a new dealership for me. The problems look to be kind of the normal stuff that has been listed here but here you go.

1) Crazy shift points with the 8 speed. driving approx 55 @ 2K RPM and kick it down to pass someone the engine will spin up to about 6K RPM before the tranny will shift down and take off. Scared the heck out of me the first time it happen.

2) Auto wipers will turn on when the want. Sunny, dry day going down the highway no rain

3) The voice command button on the steering wheel some times will not activate the system

4) The Nav display will sometime bloom white and go back to normal

5) The computer system is very slow to respond when cold outside. Example is when you first start the car you have to agree to operate the car responsible can take several minutes after the button click for it to get to the home screen.

6) The XM radio has started fading in and out, like someone is turning the volume up and down.

I hope that I don't find any more problems before I take it in

We will see how the dealer takes care of this

Thanks for posting the issues you have found with the 2014 model. I have been holding off on buying one in hopes I can afford the 2015 MY. I love the body style of both and plan on buying one or the other once the 2015 is released.

Be sure to keep us posted on how you make out with the dealer.

Sub'd for updates.
Sorry to hear you've already had several glitches with your new ride.
Mine other than the pass. power seat motor and the driver door sill have been repaired or replaced.
Otherwise it has been trouble free thus far. Knock on wood.

called the dealer today and set up an appointment for Tuesday. That call did nothing to lower my blood pressure!!! After I posted earlier I found 2 more problems with the car.

1) The accelerator is not liner not a smooth acceleration
2) After a short drive and you shut the engine for a short time and when you go back to start it the engine has a hard knock.

Back to the phone call, one of the service advisers answered the phone and after telling him that I had spoken with the service manager and listed the problems with the car he told me "that is the all time record for me of problems on one car at one time" I told him that isn't something I would be proud of. I told him that I expected a loaner car of approximately the same size as mine like a genesis/azera. He told me that they don't give out loaner cars that I will have to rent one. I told him that I have had this car less than 30 days and the salesman and service manager said that they would give me a loaner and should check. He put me on hold and came back to tell me that he learned something new today and that they do have loaner cars. Not very happy but keeping a positive outlook.

I will find out more next week

Thanks for the update. I highly recommend between now and when you drop off the car that you try and take videos of all items you can. Keep us posted and hope all goes well.

When you say acceleration isn't linear, have you tried manual shifting? My Q45 had a 4 speed. It was slower but acceleration was smoother because there was less shifting and hunting for the right gear. The large amount of power combined with the 8 speed definitely makes for more times sitting right on a shift point when in heavy traffic. One of the better cars in this area is the Maxima with CVT. The absolute best, and my dream car, is the Tesla Model S which is totally linear under all conditions. My old I30 had less hunting but passing usually meant flooring it to force a downshift combined with high rpm to get good acceleration. The R-Spec, by comparison, has good acceleration at mid throttle and awesome acceleration if I manually shift.

The accelerator is not "liner?" What does that mean? If you mean that it feels a bit stiff, get used to it, it's normal.

by "not liner" the pedal from idea to about 1.5 K RPM takes very little input (very hard to get a smooth take off from a red light) after about 1.5 K RPM it takes about 4 times the amount of pedal input to get up to 2.5 K

Yes, normal. The Genesis doesn't do stoplight take-offs too well. Did you really do a test drive?

Took the car in today, already was not over all happy with the dealers service department but wanted to make sure I just didn't catch them on a bad day the last time. Had scheduled an appointment time to drop the car off. I had a email and phone call reminder of the appointment, but when I got there they didn't have me scheduled, nothing in the computer to say I was scheduled and no loaner car. Show them the email on my phone and they start telling me they just don't know how this happen. I ask if I need to reschedule or if they have time to look at the car. They said they can look at it and they found a loaner for me(looked like someone had been sleeping in the car and smelled like it also). Most of the problems they could not duplicate or said it was "normal operation" but they fixed 1 and had to order parts for 2 others.

1) transmission shift point they reset the adaptive computer in the transmission
2) the rear door lock had a bad actuator so they had to order the lock actuator
3) The accelerator had a dead spot they ordered a new accelerator

Hope the service department has a better day when I take the car in when the parts get here.

Hi-Own 2013 for short time, but have not experienced ANY problems in first 1000 miles-
I HAVE smelled a HOT Odor from underhood, but no rise in temp on gauge...
My Dealers Finance Person advised me as to how I would not need to spend Big $ for Synthetic Oil as R Spec V8 doesn't require Synthetic oil-therefore, DON'T USE IT..........Bad Advice-Ignorant, Stupid.....

I will be checking here for issues...

I DO need to replace Rear Axle Back Mufflers/Resonators as they are TOO QUITE by far...Advice on Brand and Source?

What Factory Parts are available for Sound/Performance/Appearance?

Re: 2014 5.0 R Spec problems-TIRE SIZE GENESIS vs EQUUS

This may not be a Problem per se, but, I feel Hyundai made a Mistake in Not Supplying same Wheel/TIRE sizes on Genesis R Spec Sedan, 2013, 2014 as found on Same Running Gear Equus Sedan-using 275x19x45 Rear, 235/19/45 Front-Equus and Genesis uses 225/235/19/45 ALL AROUND.

I feel this is a HYNDAI FACTORY/MFG MISTAKE-OVERSIGHT.....
any Agreement or comments here?

I agree. The staggered look would be nice on the car.

I think you mean "not linear."

Did your parts come in yet? If so, how did you make out?

Yes the parts did come in, I called the dealer that sold me the car to set up an appointment. I have had better informed talks with my dog!!! I gave up and called the Hyundai dealer that I have had service my other Hyundai in the past so we set up an appointment yesterday because I needed a oil change. Took it in and got the oil changed and was talking with the service adviser about some of the other problems and how disappointed I was in the other dealer service department so he looked at the door lock and found that the car didn't need a new door actuator just needed the backing plate tighten, mow it works great. He sent a driver over to get the accelerator pedal and had it back by the time the oil change was done had it installed and on my way in about an hour. The gas pedal works much better now, Still kind of not as smooth as I would like but more like the other Genesis I have driven.

Good service department makes a world of different, with them finding that the backing plate only needed to be tighten in place of ordering parts I wonder if they even looked at my car
