  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

comparing Genesis to MB E350

Looks like could get it for $62K with:
Parking Assist Package
Lighting Package
Keyless Go
Premium 1 Package
Illuminated Door Sills
Drivers Assistance Package
Wheel Locks
Rear Spoiler
Heated and Active Ventilated Front Seats

I know they will definitely low ball me on trade in!

62k sounds like the MSRP.
you can buy it for around 51k before tax.
is that a sedan or coupe?

i regret not test driving the E250 turbodiesel.
45 MPG on the HWY!

List is $66,825. This is for the 4matic coupe. Made appt for Saturday to drive both the coupe and the sedan.

The E350's are going today for a minimum of $7K off list, with $10K possible in areas like LA. That car should be had for $59K worse case, unless you are in a rural area with zero competition.

Will keep those numbers in mind. As you know, the wild card is trade in value. Most importantly is bottom line. My goal is $40K out of pocket with my '11 4.6 trade in. Keep in mind my car with those options will have to be built. Nothing available on dealer lots in North East or so i was told.

The driver assistance is rare on lots as is the lighting pkg. I suspect the deals are less if you are ordering - what is cutoff for 2014 car orders? You may also want to cruise the 2014 CPO route - there may a car like that. Most cars appear to be Sports with P1, keyless Go and blind spot. I would want the LED lights, so that limits cars some what. Will hold out and drive the Genesis and see how the price ends up - if the MB is very close in price, will make it tough.

'14 CPO's will not be plentiful but will check it out. Rear spoiler and illuminated sill plates can likely be done by dealer. Lighting package a must.

There are more 2014's than you think and yes to lighting pkg on that car. Nice advantage is you get a longer warranty than new, since you will get one additional year as a CPO and can then buy two more, giving you 7 from in service date.

You were correct. Did find a number of certified '14 E350's but precious few coupes. Even sedans did not have all the options I would want. Asking price about 10% below discounted list price. If I am going to do it, will want to get my preferred options.

Hard to believe that an E class or 5 series depreciates at the same pace as a Genesis. The Genesis has many attributes, but holding it's value did not appear to be one of them.

Well, the S Class is even worse.

Usually, the higher pricepoint, the greater the depreciation hit and it doesn't help that many are wary of owning a German auto outside of the warranty coverage.

That's good to know.

I'm not surprised that, under the 5 star category, I see a bunch of Honda and Toyota/Lexus vehicles.

Otoh, the LS600h has massive depreciation due to 2 reasons.

Many don't think the hybrid version of the LS is worth the premium and the LS600h sells at a deep discount.

One thing for sure, a more striking design certainly helps resale these days.

KBB lists the Optima as having the 2nd best resale value for its segment.

If you get any car at a deep discount the depreciation will be less for that car. Personally, depreciation means nothing to me. I keep my cars until the wheels fall off.

The greater the ATP is below MSRP, the greater the depreciation since it is calculated from MSRP.

But what people tend to forget is that getting the deep discount at the point of sale, they basically make most of it up at the beginning of ownership.

If Hyundai is able to sell the 2G Genesis with lower incentives (and dealerships can keep a lid on discounting) - the 2G Genesis will have a higher resale value, but the downside is that the savings will be less upon purchase (on avg.).

I agree the coupe looks very good. The new sedan with the sport grille looks almost as good. Also the sedan has a more quiet and comfortable ride than the coupe.

That's b/c the E Class coupe shares its platform w/ the C Class and not the E Class sedan.

That's not the way I understand resale values. The way I understand it, if you can get a car for below ATP, you've done well in terms of preserving resale. Admittedly, I don't know much about depreciation because, as I said, that is never one of the factors for me buying a car.

I was going to bring that up. You all need to be very careful about the E-Class coupe. It is essentially just a slightly larger C-Class coupe with an E-Class wrapper.

Yes, I do realize that the E coupe is based on C but boy is it a knock out. Sedan would be a lot more practical. Really wanted a heated steering wheel, loved it on my old 7 series, but that is not an option with coupe. Go figure..

Tom - you going to hold out to drive the 2015 Genny or jump on a Benz soon?

I can't even imagine anyone buying a loaded 2015 Genesis if the actual selling price is close to a 2104 MB E350. Yes, the options on the Genesis may be better and the Genesis is larger, but even for people who don't care about snob appeal the MB would be the way to go.

Obviously, there are some Hyundai homeboys on this forum, but I am talking about normal people.

I agree and therein lies the potential rub. If one can get a nicely equipped MB E350 AWD for the low to mid $50's, isn't the premium 2015 V8 Genny probably going to list in the low $50's, based on Canadian pricing and the loose statements from Hyundai? I know the Benz is a V6. If the Genesis is discounted heavily out the gate, then the gap will increase, but if the Benz is a few grand more.....

There are a few easy ways to get a price quote on your genesis:

1. autotrader.com
go to "sell your car".
click "sell to a dealer".
within 1 hour, you will get price quotes from local car dealers.

2. carmax, if you have one in your area.
take the car to them, they will give you a quote in writing.

3. take car to hyundai delaer

keep in mind that the E class coupe is based on the C class chassis, and will not be as refined as the Genesis.
but please report back after your test drive of both.

in my case, i bought the genesis 4.6 new for $35,000.
our E350 was $49,000.
so the price differential was 14,000!
so, do i think they are worth this price difference?

in terms of how they ride and drive, the benz is not worth the premium, because they are so similar.
but the benz looks so much better, and i feel it might be more solidly built and do better in a crash. so from this aspect, and the fact that we wanted to own a Benz at least once, i think it's worth the price difference.

ksoze- Definitely going to drive Genny first. Genny has more tech than MB but MB is built like a tank. Actually over engineered. Having had a MB and BWW, I am well aware of the drama of ownership of same.
