  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

That would be disappointing if it was not available in some form on the 2015 Genesis. It would seem possible, since I suspect the tech internals are similar in both new cars and Hyundai has known about this for a while, being one of a handful of makers with announced early availability.

I am convinced this is a game changer for car tech and we can finally rid ourselves of inferior design, numerous UI's and expensive media. It could almost make me wait if not to be available at all on the 2015 Genesis in at least inexpensive upgrade form.

That's a shame. But I'm sure it can be programmed in. I wonder if they'd do something like that, however... They'll probably leave it for 2016.

Good news is the 2015 Genesis has Siri Eyes so it is integrated partially to the iPhone already. I would think this should make it easier to implement.

Siri Eyes is voice input only - been done in some form on other cars for a while. CarPlay is much more involved and effects the controls on the car and the display. I am hopeful for a software upgrade, but one wonders why it was not announced on this car if it has the stuff already there. It apparently requires the lightening port, so a cable needs to be connected, which is a bummer.

Well that definitely did not make my day. Thanks for the info.

I don't think CarPlay was ready in time. We already have the Genesis on lots and we won't see it on the Sonata until it arrives - whenever that may be. I'm sure the Genesis was finalized before CarPlay was available as an option. I suppose Hyundai could have delayed the Genesis - and waited for CarPlay - but would that have made sense?

Maybe it will be on the new Performance model :)

Agreed. I doubt that it will be possible to retrofit. Even if it is possible, I don't think that Hyundai will offer a s/w or h/w upgrade to do so. After all, they need something to add for the '16 model year.

Report from the NY Car show says Carplay "should be in the Genesis by the fall as a mid year refresh".

Does the report mention if the initial 2015 cars can be firmware upgraded to support car play?

Wow, this video will sell you on car play if you are an ios user. Demo shown in the 2015 Sonata. Pretty amazing. Biggest problem with factory units is the nav becomes quickly obsolete plus the search feature is way behind. So much so I need to use my iphone 15% of the time to find and navigate somewhere. Car play will put and end to that with up to date maps all the time and a search function which is among the best there is. Well, i guess this android news has just put on ice all my attempts at getting a new Genesis anytime soon :)

Hyundai is one of many automakers who have announced Apple CarPlay, which lets you control approved iPhone 5/5S/5C apps using car dashboard controls, and replicate the phone display. Here’s the catch: It won’t be on the first batch of 2015 Sonatas arriving sometime this summer. It will be a running change to the head unit, and once CarPlay is available it can’t be retrofitted to the first 2015s.

from here

Anyone know what effect car play and android auto will have on bluelink subscriptions? Seems like it removes the need to send poi to your car, etc

I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Some things like remote start will still need bluelink, but paying money just for that... Umm I wouldn't do that.
