  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Will you buy the new 2015 or wait??

How can he give us his experiences when nobody here has a Genesis 2015 to compare to?

Maybe we have a communication problem. He can clearly give his impression of the GS and it is welcome here, at least by me. While the 2015 sure sounds impressive, it is a bit premature to be awarding it as a game ender.

We'll see how the 2 fare in comparison tests, but I'll wager that the GS is deemed to be the sportier or at least the more nimble of the 2.

Part of it is due to physics - the GS is smaller (built on a stretched IS platform) whereas the Genesis is on the large end of the midsize sedan spectrum.

The other is that Akio Toyoda wanted the GS to be a sports sedan to challenge the 5 Series (well, the old one) whereas Hyundai seems to have developed the 2G Genesis to be more of a luxo-cruiser w/ a bit of sport.

Right now, if having a midsize sport sedan is the imperative - the choice would be the CTS V-Sport (until Porsche launches its midsizer) unless one wants to pay the hefty premium for a performance line and even then, I'd probably wait for the new CTS-V.

Boy are we ever temperamental. I never gave an opinion on any of the cars as for 1, I have not even seen a 2015 Genesis yet and 2, I already said I have never even sat in a GS before. I simply quoted an automotive journalist who I assume has tried both and gave his opinion.

Let me be clear. Surely the '15 will be a great car but price point is somewhat of a concern. The trunk space is smaller than first generation so the 14.3 cubic feet of storage in GS is comparable to Genesis. $42500 for the '13 GS AWD was hard to pass up. For a change I let someone else take the first year depreciation hit. Can not really compare this care to my '11 Genesis. Just two different kinds of cars that do what they do and do it well. To date, the Genesis was best car I have ever owned which includes Vettes, MB, and BMW.

'15 Genesis trunk=15.3 cubic feet so larger for sure.

Personally I'm waiting until the 2nd year production run as a minimum to let them iron out some of the mistakes that are going to happen like they do with most re-models. I'd like to see some more reviews on it by R&T C&D etc., once they have had them for at least 20k+ miles.

Just my 2 cents on the subject, what are you all planning to do?

On a side note....

I'm really happy with my 2013 overall, great car :D...do you think they will update the current blue-link to operate a few more features in our existing cars or not?

I currently own a 2012 5.0 R-Spec 27k Miles w/ Magnaflow X-Pipe Rear Cat and Resonators Delete and CAI Runs and Sounds Great contemplating Trading since I am still in an equity position but I am hearing an R-Spec with more Powerful Engine Sport Suspension and Tire/Wheel Upgrade are in the works next year you guys here any such info ?

I have driven the new 5.0 over the last few days and it feels every bit as potent as the RSpec, she still plants you firmly in the seat. Yes the initial reported 0-60 #'s aren't quite as impressive as before because of the added weight, but I see that easily being overcome with a couple of simple modifications. I think an RSpec version is dependent on how well sales do for this car, this is big step up for the Genesis and their hedging on it taking a better market share then the previous generation. The new Genesis has come a long ways from 2009-present but still has some areas that will see revisions over the next few years. One area of this that will be revised IMO is the HUD, when it's really sunny outside and your wearing a quality set of Polarized sun glasses the display is all but washed out even at it's highest settings. Without sunglasses on it's a nice display but this is something they should have taken into consideration.

That just might be part of the deal for polarized lenses and they may not be able to do anything about it. The purpose of polarized lenses is to block out reflected light. These kinds of systems (HUD) are typically purchased from vendors who specialize in these kinds of things, and it very unlikely that it is a one-off Hyundai design. You might want to test drive another brand of car of HUD and see if it also has this issue with polarized lenses.

There have been rumblings from Hyundai about the possibility of a new 5.0 with AWD that is bit sportier than the 2015 5.0. Would probably not be available until fall at the earliest.

True and still it's not a deal breaker for me just something I noticed that's kind of annoying. That is a good idea I will test that and report back on my findings.

Some one on here already reported that in any make car, HUD does not work with Sunglasses.

I read the article and they did say this is the price that needs to be paid with all HUD equipped cars. This is not because of an inferior hud Hyundai is offering.

HUD with polarized sunglasses is a common problem effecting all cars. That is why many pilots and professional drivers use sunglasses like Seregeti Drivers, with lens that do not block out gauges (and HUD) and also cut glare with less loss in light. May need to buy a pair and keep in the car.

I would think that some sunglasses would work OK, but polaroid lenses are specially designed to block out reflected light.

Polaroid lenses only work in a certain plane. If one were to take the glasses off your face and turn them 90 degrees, you might be able to notice that HUD better than before. Obviously, this is only a demonstration of how polaroid lenses work, and you can't wear them turned 90 degrees.

Also, Polaroid lenses are not recommended for LCD displays for similar reasons.

Most do, just not polarized sunglasses. You're airline pilot wears sunglasses and they are not polarized, as does any professional who needs to see gauges and HUD.

It's polarized, not Polaroid. Polaroid is a company that makes optical products such as polarized lens for sunglasses, polarized is the name applied to the optical properties you accurately described. Just being a nit-noid, not trying to "polarize" the discussion. :>

If you are buying the HUD or need a new pair of sunglasses for driving, I highly recommend Serengeti sunglasses with the "Drivers" lenses. A favorite of pilots, they will be a shock when you put them on when driving and find things brighter, but with no glare.

They come in many styles, but are not cheap, here is one:

Yes, but polarized lenses were invented by Polaroid Corporation (or at least invented by the person who later formed Polaroid Corporation). The similarity in names is not coincidental.

"Edwin Land, invented Polaroid, the world's first polarizing material for commercial use, in 1929. He founded the Polaroid Corporation in 1937 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company initially produced Polaroid Day Glasses, the first sunglasses with a polarizing filter."

I'm not saying that the quality of the HUD that Hyundai uses is inferior to other offerings, it was just an observation when wearing my sunglasses that the display was washed out and I found that to be annoying since it's a nice feature on the car. I wear prescription sunglasses so when I do get this vehicle in a year or two I'll just get another set without polarized lenses or move to a place where they don't get sun.....

Not sure anyone said you dissed the quality of the Hyundai HUD. It is pretty common knowledge that polarized lenses do not work with HUD's and are not good for viewing many of today's electronic gauges. They are good for skiing and water sports for killing glare, but do not play well with the techno stuff in our cars today.

Nobody did I was just clarifying my earlier statement about the HUD, and it's exactly the same in my cousins Audi S8 with sunglasses on. The rest of the gauges in the car even with the glasses on were very visible, especially the two new screen choices which look great.
