  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi-

I'm looking to get into a Genesis sedan. Here are my requirements/desirements:

1 - Location. I'm in Los Angeles, CA & would prefer a relatively local car.
2 - Year: 2012-2013
3 - Low miles. < 10k is great, I think 20k is my max comfortable mileage.
4 - Engine/trim: prefer 3.8L V6 w/ the technology package. Or 4.6L V8 or 5.0 R-Spec, though the extra features & resulting cost in these trim levels makes them less desirable.
5 - Interior: black.
6 - Exterior: prefer black or dark exterior.
7 - Cost: I don't want to go much over $30k, if at all. I have cash in hand & am ready to pull the trigger immediately on the right car at the right price.

I've been poring over Craigslist, Carmax, eBay, AutoTrader, Carsdirect, dealership websites, etc. I haven't yet found one close enough to my ideal to take the plunge, so I signed up for this forum to ping you folks or see if you had any other input.

Thanks!
-Jason

Check out CarGuru (or perhaps it's CarsGuru). Once there, you'll be able to select the vehicle/s that you're interested in and if you opt to, receive emails on price changes and how they compare to the national average.
I bought my 2011 Gen 3.8 w/premium package in Feb and since then, I've noticed that the prices have inched up here in the northeast, at least for the 10's, 11's and 12's.

Thank you, Shaggy.

carsguru.com is also another car-search site. :]

One issue that has been vexing me is that I see tons of ads for 3.8L V6 Genesis sedans, but most ads don't say if it's base, Premium Package, or Technology Package. Per this site ( http://www.motortrend.com/cars/2013/hyundai/genesis/packages_options/ ), for a 2013, Premium cost $4800 more than base, & Technology cost $4300 more than Premium. So, it's difficult to know if the price is fair, w/out knowing which package it is.

I looked at the VIN decoder document & there's a character for Standard, Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Grand Salon, & Super Grand Salon. Do those names correspond to the packages that I described above?

Thanks!

You'll want to look at 2013s. The only way to get black interior in a 2012 is an R-Spec.

Too bad you're in CA. You could have my R Spec (which everyone on here knows I baby) for $30k. 24k miles though :(

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks. Yup, your car is almost exactly what I seek. Dang. How far from CA is it? :]

Thanks,
-Jason

ALL THE WAY.

This info should help.

2012 3.8 V6 cars also came with black interiors. Titanium gray and Platinum Silver were just two of the available 2012 V6 exterior colors that could be had with black interiors. I almost owned a titanium/black Genesis. The dealer delivered it over 100 miles to my driveway via a car carrier. I inspected the car and found three areas of damage including a slash in the leather dash, just above the nav screen. How the dealer (Pohanka in MD ) thought that anybody would accept such a car is beyond belief. Needless to say the car was returned immediately to the dealer as a no sale.

You've got it a bit twisted, bfatal. 2012 V6s we're definitely available with black interiors, as well as saddle and cashmere. 2012 R-specs, I believe, were only available with black interiors.

Actually, I had a bit of an interesting adventure.

I bought a 2012 Silver 5.0 R-Spec from a Chrysler dealership, took it home, noticed the rear badge said only "5.0" & no "R-Spec". Hyundai's badging is a bit confusing (at least to me), so I didn't notice at first that it was simply a 5.0, not a 5.0 R-Spec.

So, 3 days & about 20 miles later, the dealership accepted it as a return, because they were in err on their website & window sticker, & I got a full refund.

That was a few weeks ago.

This past Friday, I picked up a 2012 R-Spec w/ 1k fewer miles, in black (my favorite color for this car), & paid only $800 more than the other one. Oh, and they gave me a $20 gift card for their 5-star restaurant above the dealership. :]

So far, I love it! :]
