I still get some, but not as bad as your pics.
I tried octanes from 87-93 and noticed no difference.
I use 89 octane ethanol free. Not because it is cleaner, but it goes farther on a gallon of gas.
I saw the amount of soot decrease a good bit after i hit 2k mi or so and switched to mobil 1 synthetic oil.
In summary, I don't think that it is a gas octane level issue, I believe it is an oil issue. Almost all GDI engines seem to have this to some degree. The rental Optima I have right now has sooty exhausts.
Just wait til you drive like grandma for a week or 2, then stomp the gas! My buddy was behind me and said my car looked like a diesel with all the black soot it blew out!
