If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can't listen to Spotify through my USB port...what am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to listen to Spotify through the USB connection to the car. I'm using an iPhone on software version 7.1.2 (most recent software). Spotify starts playing for a couple seconds, but then it immediately reverts back to the iPod/Music app on the iPhone. I just bought my Genesis, and I absolutely love it, but this is absurd. My old Genesis (2011 Premium Package) played music through others apps perfectly fine, but now this one will not.

I'm connecting via Apple's white USB cable that comes with the iPhone. Do I need to use another cable or something?

I'd run the audio through the AUX, but sound-quality is degraded so poorly through the AUX cables/inputs.

Someone please help:/

why not through BT audio?

BT audio is a degrade in sound quality from USB as well, and my phone cannot charge while I'm streaming BT audio. And frankly, why'd they kill a useful feature in the first place? It's ridiculous.

A phone can charge while streaming BT audio if you plug it into one of the power points with a USB adapter.

If I plug my phone into the USB port, then I cannot stream Bluetooth audio to the car. As soon as I plug into the USB port it starts the iPod interface. Therefore I cannot charge while plugged into the USB port. Or are you saying I have to buy some big power adaptor to put into one if the cigarette lighter power ports? If so, what a huge downgrade from the previous model! This is a problem that needs addressed by Hyundai.

So does everyone else have this same issue? You try to play some audio from any app other than the iPod/music app and the car doesn't allow it?

Also, when I use the cable from Hyundai (the one with the aux and USB on the same cable) my car doesn't even recognize my iPhone at all. It keeps power cycling from iPod to aux to iPod to aux and so on...and the iphone/iPod is rendered useless. Can anyone else successfully use the Hyundai cable with their iphone in their Genesis? Is my car messed up?

I wish I never bought this stupid car. My old Genesis played Spotify perfectly fine, but this "revolutionary" 2015 just plain sucks.

Re: Can't listen to Spotify through my USB port.play..what am I doing wrong?

Really the car sucks cause you can't play Spotify? Sorry if that's the qualification for a 40-50k car sucking I must have messed up values. You may get full iPhone interface as an upgrade later this year. I would hold off on car sucking based on an interface glitch with your cellphone.

I play via soundcloud (BT connection) on my Galaxy just fine. Why don't you try another iPhone just to rule this out (even if yours worked fine on the old one).

We may get iPhone interface as an upgrade? I thought CarPlay was only for the later-produced Genesis and it was already stated it would not be retrofitted to earlier-produced 2015s? Am I wrong? If it got ported over to our Genesis then I'd be set!:)

Love me some Spotify! That being said, honest question: is there really such a big difference in sound quality between a BT connection and USB? That kinda surprises me a little bit.

I honestly do not think there is.

technically I the OP is correct - there is a technical difference - but I'll be damned if I can tell the difference. I play my android via BT in my genesis and it sounds great, as does it when I play it to my jambox. I also play music from usb stick in my genny and it sounds just as good.

Imo BT is better as long as your music player can handle high quality sound files. I play 5.1 dts file throug BT on my android amazing sound. As far as streaming through things such a pandora or others it doesnt matter because its already bad quality to begain with. It is compressed audio such as an MP3 which takes important information out to make it smaller. A true uncompressed audio track should be sampled above 88khz not 44khz and size will be more around 120mb for 5mins as opposed to 22kb for a 320 or vbr mp3.

I am having a similar problem and it is quite annoying. I am having trouble playing Audible and other apps like Podcast through my bluetooth audio. It plays 2 seconds and then flips to the ipod interface and will only play music. If i go back and try the apps again it just flips me right back to the music.

I have an Iphone 5. I have not upgraded to the latest iOS version wihch i plan to do shortly.

It's a known issue with the cable not working, same thing on the 2013's. Here is a link to the post, Apple is aware of it and it's not limited to the Genesis....it does the exact same thing in my cousins Audi. Currently there isn't a fix for it, though it works perfectly though my Bluetooth:

It was not working right via bluetooth until I upgraded my iOS to the latest version. Now everything works well wirelessly. It will output whatever I am playing via my phone through the bluetooth to the car audio system.

As mentioned as soon as i connect the USB cable it switches over to the Music app and most other apps cannot be used to output audio. I have done a lot of researching and it seems to happen on a lot of makes and models.

Well I have tried and tested a few things...it seems it is an issue with iOS possibly. Today, I was able to get audio from the YouTube app on the phone, as well as audio through videos posted on Facebook. Once I hit "play" on either video, it simply paused the music playing through the iPod app, and played the video audio.

Now...why can't this just happen with Spotify or iHeartRadio or Beats Music or any other service like this??? :(

Well I was wrong in my last post...it is definitely NOT the iPhone. It's the car. I used my same exact phone, same exact cable...plugged into my wife's $20k Elantra and spotify, iheartradio, songza, etc. worked PERFECTLY in her car. She could even control it through her steering wheel controls. I have a $52k Genesis and it doesn't work at all. This car freaking sucks. I can't believe they crippled the audio system. This is my last Hyundai.

I guess the worth of car has been siphoned down the fact of whether it can effectively play smartphone apps or not. Sad day for the auto industry.
