  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

shortly after we bought this car, we noticed that it has a lot of swirl marks from someone going way too hard with a buffing wheel. we had it wetsanded courtesy of the dealer, but it doesnt look any different. i have used various polishes and still nothing. what can i do that doesnt involve having the whole car repainted? the picture below shows some on the passenger door that the camera was able to pick up. but the whole car is covered in swirl marks

A skilled detailer using nano polish might be able to help. Mine was full of swirls and spiderwebs and my detailer has now made it look like new. To maintain it he advises waxing frequently with high quality carnauba wax, and not to use any kind of "cleaner" wax.

a lot of the detailing i do myself and according to a lot of dealers, i do a better job than the help they hire. i think they're just trying to blow smoke up my ass because when i ask for a job they come up with some excuse why they cant hire me. but anyway.. i can look into getting a bottle of this nano polish and see if that helps

There is a guy near me who will take it and turn it into an award winner, literally. But he charges upwards of $1k. Insanely talented.

I suggest finding an independent detailing professional, not someone you'd find at a dealership or chain shop.

Agree 100%. If you have to ask "how" it's probably not something you want to tackle. Especially with a dark color. It can go from bad to worse very quickly if you are inexperienced.

I "tackled" a black car once before. I had an '87 Buick Grand National. I was bored one night and decided to bring out the six year old GM paint. After I was done it looked good or so I thought. Swirls and more swirls! The brighter the sun the worse it looked!! I know car care products have improved in 20 years but that's the last time I tried something like this without experience!! Do yourself a favor and find AN EXPERIENCED detailer.

Why dont you give it back to the dealer ,let him fix it. I understand wet sanding, but dont get it. Clear coat is only a couple of Mils thick, very easy to mess up and make it much worst Let the dealer go to the guy that charges $1000 and fix it for you. If the swirl marks go through the clear coat --- then the car needs repainting. Even using rubbing compound its easy to go through clear coat. Actually swirl marks are easy to get out , they make anti swirl type material that you use as a polish. But if the paint/clear coat is burned or worn through, it needs repainting. Your call .Good luck
