If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Most reviews of the 2g Genesis are very positive, but the one area that’s often treated at least a little bit negatively is the way the car rides and handles. Maybe I’m displaying a little bit of ignorance and lack of experience in the driving of the finer motorcars of the world, but I think the 2g Genny handles and rides pretty well. Certainly as well or better than I expected after reading so many reviews. Is this just snobbishness on the part of the reviewers and/or an attempt to find something wrong with the car or do other cars in this price category really ride and handle that much better?

The steering is where much of the less than stellar comments are focused. Most like the steering feel for normal driving, but many reviewers find it less impressive at speed and in sweeping turns. The ride seems to get pretty universal thumbs up, both likely due to the obvious improvement from the 1G as well as the general composure for a fairly heavy car.

The Genesis is also usually compared to german sedans which have more sport dialed into their cars instead of luxury which the 2G Genesis has focused on. If it were compared more to cars in its price range and lineage (Toyota, Nissan), it would probably fair better in those comparisons.

I guess I'd like to also add this question to owners of 2gs: How do YOU like the ride and handling? Is it better than you expected? TIA.

That makes sense so I guess if I was "buying down" instead of "buying up" I might have that same reaction.

After my 2009, I am totally impressed with both the handling and the ride. The 2015 never loses composure over bad pavement like the 2009 did. As for handling, I drive a high-speed sweeping curve several times a day that is like one reviewer complained about and I find the steering is excellent on the initial turn in and stays linear through the turn. I find that I can enter the curve faster than I could in the 2009. The 2015 stays much flatter in the turn.

I don't expect this car to handle like a 3-series BMW, but I think the handling is very appropriate for the type of car the Genesis is intended to be.

  • You are capable of deciding for yourself about how good the 2015 Genesis ride and handling is. Don't assume that a 24 year-old freelance journalist who got paid $250 to write a review knows what they are talking about or has the same likes and dislikes as you do.
  • Since you already bought the 2015 Genesis, stop reading the reviews, they will only drive you insane. Not much good comes from continuing to read reviews about products you already purchased.

I know what I think of it and I decide what I buy but I still like to read the reviews. :)

I don't know what people are doing with their cars on public roads but, in real world driving, the ride and handling of my 2015 Genesis is fantastic - I have no complaints; even when occasionally pushing the limits of what's legal or appropriate for the situation/conditions ;)

Agree with Nikgen
To paraphrase an older post, a fine luxury car with very capable handling.

Exactly my experience.

My 2 cents, I am thrilled with the ride and handling. As a former 5 series driver I can say that the Gene has less road feel than the 5's, but I am ok with that. Often after a long ride in my 5 my hands would literally get numb from the road feel in the steering wheel. BMW has dialed this back a bit now too.

So on the track, the 5 is probably a more capable car, but between home and the grocery store, I am 100% thrilled with the ride.

22 hour road trip kicking off early tomorrow morning, may have some new thoughts at the end of my trip.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts after your 22 hour road trip. True test of those new seats for sure.

Was looking for luxury, not a stiff riding sports sedan.
I love everything about it and I have hav A Lexus, an Infiniti an a Volvo s60.
Better than all of them

Sounds like a sweet ride.

If i wanted to feel the road then I would get a wagon.

I think the stock Hankook Tire is part of the problem. When my car arrives I will immediately replace the tires with either Michelin Pilot Super Sport or Hankook V12 evo2. They will provider better grip and most likely improve the steering response.

Personally I like the Genesis because of the space and comfortable ride, but there is nothing wrong with trying to improve on the steering feel and handling just a little bit.

WOW, thanks for the link. I had no idea the Ventus S1 are rated so highly by the users. Especially when I know that the #2 on that list, the Conti ExtremeContact DWS is an awesome UHPAS tire.

Still stubborn me will probably swap out the tires. Mainly because winter can get pretty harsh up here that I will be running dedicated winter setup. So, what's a little bit more money for a set of summer tires to get the desired performance.

Mind you that I will be trading quicker wear and maybe some comfort and road noise for that better road holding ability. What's more important to me though, is the slightly stiffer sidewall that will give a more immediate steering response.

I still think that opting for a set of Max Performance Summer tires will improve the steering feel, I could be wrong but I will report back when the car gets here.

Make sure you take into account the Total Reported Miles when looking at reviews. A small sample size (small reported miles) can be misleading, especially since anyone can post their opinion on the internet.

Also, that tire is in the Ultra High Performance All-Season category. I would also look in the High Performance All-Season and the Grand Touring All-Season categories for other similar tires, since the categories are somewhat arbitrary.

There has been a lot of negative post regarding the DWS tires but I can tell you this when I put them on my 2011 the transformation was amazing and I have no complaints of alignment problems. Every aspect important for me was resolved. If these tires weren’t’ as good as they are I would putting on the DWS again. While I agree that a stiffer side wall will probably increase steering response it would do it at the cost of overall ride quality which for me is one of the best things about the car.

Conti DWS will be my personal choice if I live in area like Vancouver or Seattle where I see lots of rain and low temperature while occasionally see some snow. That will be the only tire that I run all year round.

I do run Conti ExtremeWinterContact for my winter set currently and they are fantastic as well.

Back to topic, my experience with the Hankook Noble S1 is frankly limited. They provide plenty of traction under hard braking and acceleration (18" on V6 AWD). Rides comfortably and car is reasonably quiet with them. I just feel that handling and steering wise the car has more to offer if the tire is of a sportier design.

Mind you that with Michelin Pilot Super Sport, you can get amazing ride and comfort with grip performance. You do have to pay to play though.

We will see what I end up doing if the dealer can find me a car with Ivory interior.
