If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I have decided to buy a 3.8L RWD Montecito Blue Genesis with gray interior. It is apparently pretty hard to find and I'm resigned that I would have to buy it out of state (I'm in Southern California).
But how do I locate one closest to me? The Hyundai inventory search tool is extremely limited (and sometimes inaccurate). I've stumbled upon cargurus which has an unlimited search radius, but I've discovered it does not necessarily show all available cars.
Anybody know of a better way to search? Any tips or warnings about buying out of state and having a car shipped?

Any bit of info is appreciated

I was looking at the Hyundai website last night. No Montecito, Ibiza, or even the Beige exterior color in SoCal. Every car I saw on their website had the black interior. I assume that is the dark gray interior.

Both blues look great but I'm leaning to a White car this time. I have a Black '12 now. It is interesting that nobody ever comments on the Beige color.

I have been looking for a Montecito Blue 5.0 Ultimate with Beige interior here in Florida and there isn't one. Here is what I have done to make my searches (daily) easier for me.

I save a link to all Florida Hyundai dealers into a Microsoft Outlook Task file then each day at lunch time at work I search every dealer.

I also search Cars.com and Autotrader.com

I used Truecar.com. Created a search for 150 miles from home (in my case) saved the link and every day I would just execute it. I found it to be very effective and reliable. Direct links to the dealers are provided. Very fast and minimum on line time.

I just purchased a AWD 3.8 Tech Monticito blue with the gray interior. It is a light gray and the color combo is stunning.

I purchased it on Long Island.\, NY and on the search it was the only one that showed up on a dealer inventory search in the area.

There is one in Maryland with Ivory...

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
You can only get ivory in the ultimate package. It's very weird that if you don't go "ultimate" the exterior/interior color selections are very limited. IMO - Poor marketing

The Hyundai Circle search is pretty awesome. It shows vehicles that simply don't show up using a couple other tools, plus has selections for each drivetrain, options package, and colors. The normal stuff is modifiable too such as zipcode, year, model.

Heck I just searched my local dealer's page and I know they've got a casablanca white one that's not even showing on their own webpage. (Probably just received it and haven't fully processed it yet.)

It's kind of a pain to get access, but I'm thankful it's available at all if I can really get the prices people talk about. Giving out CID codes is prohibited, but if you sign up for hyundaithinktank.com they've got a guide there for how to get signed up.

I've used the Hyundai Inventory Search and plug in different zip codes to locate cars in different areas.

What I'm not happy about is a simple obvious problem: other than black EVERY SINGLE OTHER INTERIOR COLOR IS LIGHT AND VERY STAINABLE. I would buy blue or red exterior in a heartbeat but the ONLY leather dark enough to not become an embarrassment in a day is black, and you cannot get a black interior with ANY interesting exterior color. It's truly ridiculous

Thank you for the suggestion. Turns out I do have access to Hyundai Circle and that is how I plan to buy the car once I find the one. And you're right, it has a wider search radius than Hyundai's inventory search web page. But still, trying zip code by zip code seems like a daunting task. The US is a pretty big place :). Not that I have not tried, by the way, and I did come up with one about 600 miles away. Not to be ungrateful, but I was still hoping to find one closer or just another one in case the first one falls through.

Honestly didn't know about that tool, thanks! Though I'll mirror payamf's observation that the search radius using the publicly available inventory search is significantly lower.

For example in my zip code there are actually no 5.0s right now using Inventory Search, whereas the the circle search tool brought up about 15. If I had to estimate I'd say it's about 75mi vs 250mi radius.

Pardon me for over simplifying this problem, but why not go to your preferred dealer whom you intend to purchase car. Tell him what package you want and also the color. Let him knock his head finding it. He has all the tools to find from other dealers and probably has access to Hyundai's import schedule. I wanted my Casablanca white/beige interior and got it within four days. No doubt they got it from another dealer.

I might be wrong, but I think it's a combination of 2 goals here - to find the right car and still to keep the leverage to negotiate a good deal. Asking a dealer to find you a car somewhat weakens your negotiation position.

I might be wrong, but that's how I see it.

Perfectly good suggestion and what I tried to do when I was contemplating an Empire State Gray. The only complication seems to be that apparently in order to get Hyundai Circle pricing, it has to come from dealer inventory. The sales guy was able to find one Empire State Gray at a close-by dealership. He told me he was not very hopeful, but would try because he had "committed" to get me the car. I never heard back from him one way or another, and did not contact him about it. That was from a dealership a few miles away. Can't imagine he would be eager to do that for an out of state car.

I saw one today with 5.0 and Ivory interior in Gaithersburg, Maryland @ Fitzmall Hyundai-hope this helps.:D

Thank you for stalking the car for me ;)

The good news is that I have located what I'm looking for and talked to a salesperson about the purchase. The not so excellent news is that it is about 600 miles away.
My choices now are either spend a very long day to fly out, buy, and drive back, or spend $600 to $800 dollars to ship the car sight unseen.
I've only heard of one other forum member buying a car long distance and it was delivered damaged. He decided to send it back.
Any horror stories or encouraging stories about having a new car shipped?

I think only the horror stories are repeated and are likely rare. Every new car is shipped via truck at some point- the ones at the dealerships came on a truck.

I would have it shipped with a clause noted in your contract that if there is any damage, you have an out on the deal. Go for it...

Dealers are able to search the whole country immediately. I was looking for a particular color/upholstery combination and my dealer got on her computer and after only a few key clicks told me there was one in Idaho, another in Kansas City, and a third on the east coast. (I made another selection, being in Illinois.)
