If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

I purchased CPO Genesis from Hyundai Dealership. I was charged additional $2000 for a third party powertrain warranty? Is it a legitimate charge? I thought that certified Hyundai comes with the balance of power train warranty by default.
Thank you,

Alex

You likely bought an extended warranty that covers much more than the powertrain warranty. Didn't you read it!? Yes, if you bought a CPO car you will also get the 10/100,000 powertrain warranty.

I paid 900.00 for mine. They started out at 2000, I said no about 10 times, finally they got down to 1200 and then at 900 I bit.. I hope I don't need it, but it's nice to know its there if I do..

I just finished reading it. Its called powertrain wraparound and it covers electrical, steering, suspesion, brakes and air conditioner to 100K. But since I got the balance of New Vehicle limited Warranty I wander if it makes much sense to keep it since from my experience cars have a tendency to brake after 100K.

Is it powertrain wraparound warranty?

CPO comes with 10 year - 100K mile warranty that normally is only afforded to original purchasers. The dealer has to pay Hyundai a fee for that, so CPO cars cost a little more than non-CPO cars. Sounds like you also purchased an extended warranty at a somewhat inflated price (maybe about $700 more than should have paid), although it depends on whether it is the real factory extended warranty, or some dealer-only kind (in which case that is not good).

If there was a $2000 extra charge on the bill of sale you signed, I don't understand how you agreed to pay that without knowing in advance that you were being charged extra for the warranty?

It was an extra and I can cancel it within 30 days. The warranty is offered through Fidelity warranty services presumably the same provider as for an original Hyundai warranty.

The Fidelity warranty is not the same "provider" as the original factory warranty, but is probably good enough if honored by all dealers. But make sure you find out which one you have. The only one worth getting is the Platinum warranty that covers audio, DVD, GPS systems.

There are many threads on the subject of extended warranties, and you can purchase them from any dealer in any state, even on the phone or internet (not just the dealer you purchased the car from). Some dealers will sell them for about $1200 for the Platinum Warranty. I think Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta is one of those who sell them on the phone.

Thank you for info about Jim Ellis.
Mine is Platinum but 2K and 1.2K is quite a difference.

In 2002, I bought a 2009 Genesis 4.6 with just 13,000 miles on it. I also purchased the extended warranty for about $900. I have already had a $450 repair paid for in full. The CD, radio, navigation head failed. It, among other things, is covered for 3 years, not the full 10. Since the car was a bit over 3 years FROM THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE the extended warranty covered that repair. I hope that will be my only use of it. It's mid-2014 now and the car continues to perform like a charm.

I just called Jim Ellis dealership and they sent me a quote for the Genesis. It would be the same price for my Wife's 2014 Santa Fe, they said.

The 10yr/100k Platinum warranty would be $1449 with a $100 deductible and $1749 with $0.00 deductible. If you would like to move forward with the protection please send me a copy of your driver’s license and I will overnight the paperwork to you with a return FedEx. After reviewing and signing the warranty you can include a check in the return FedEx and you will be all set. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
