  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sirius XM channel not staying set after turning car off? Car clock hand spinning!?

I've noticed that occasionally, when I turn my car on, my SiriusXM radio has reset and gone back to Channel 0. All my preset channels are still programmed, but if I turn the car off while it's on some channel (say, channel 51)...when I power the car back on, Sirius XM is now on channel 0. It's weird, and only happen sometimes, but at least every other day.

Additionally, the other day I hopped in my car and this happened, and noticed my CLOCK SPINNING. The minute hand was spinning around and around until it reached the correct time! Then it stopped on the correct time. Very weird!

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Sounds like the "keep alive" power to the head unit and dash stuff/clock is flaky. Whatever fuse feeds power to that area might be loose or making poor contact. Sloppy fuse and electrical connector assembly on the production line seems to be one of the more common problems. My car had a poorly plugged-in camshaft position sensor connector on delivery; others on this forum have noted sloppy assembly of the rear camera connector, power window connectors, tail lamp connectors, etc.

So much for "analog clocks are better." You wouldn't catch my digital clock doing that! Speaking of clocks, remember those old digital clocks that used to flip the numbers, like a deck of cards. Click, clack. Some nights you would lie awake just waiting for the next minute to flip. Then the waiting started again for another 59 seconds. These days I don't even wear a wristwatch for fear of offending my iPhone.

I have had a similar problem. I have a 2013 V6 with DIS. When I would turn off radio on a xm2 or xm3 it would revert to xm1 about 90% of the time. If I had the radio on FM 1 or fm2 or AM it also would revert to xm1. I had the radio replaced and it does it occasionally now but not like before. I was and still a bit upset. When you buy a $40,000+ auto you expect better. The rest of the car keeps me satisfied for the most part.

hm I'm wondering what power source does that clock use... Could it be that it's a light cell and the clock is put to sleep if not exposed to a light source for some time and then when exposed it wakes and "catches up"?

Yet another screwup from Hyundai on this car. Great. I've bought three Hyundais in the last three years. This is my freaking LAST one. This is annoying.

Don't know about the issues with the SXM radio but as for the clock hands spinning around that IS normal. The clock is programmed to set itself accurately with the time signals from GPS. I've seen it actually happen once or twice on my car since getting it 2 months ago and thought it was pretty cool.

FWIW the dash clock on my previous car, a 2012 Chrysler 300C, was ALWAYS wrong and never synchronized with the GPS infotainment screen. I was constanly resetting it once a week or so. The autoset feature on my new Genesis is just one more little thing I love about the car :)

Thanks for that feedback Breadmen. It is nice to know that is was not an issue and actually a function of the system. Neat feature.

Some of the XM resets to channel 0 may be when they send XM updates. That being said, I only see those about once or twice a year and definitely not every other day.

im noticing this problem with my car, if it's sits for longer than say 6 hrs 2 out of 3 times it's back to zero..If i was listening to pandora or blue audio then it 3 out of 3..

That doesn't seem normal -- the radio resetting to 0. Mine's never done it on any Hyundai car (I'm on my third). I have two suggestions short of taking it to the dealer:

Log on to your XM account and from the "My Subscriptions" tab, select "Send a refresh signal to this radio" from the drop list that says "I want to...".

If you still have the problem, maybe a reset of the radio will fix the problem. According to the DIS Manual, you can reset the system. I don't know the implications of a system rest, so take this step at your own risk. My guess is that a reset could be a factory reset of SXM, Navigation, and phone data, so, you may be better off with a trip to the dealer if this makes you unconformable.

The attached photos are from the manual showing the location of the reset hole. If anyone has personal experience (or cautions) with this operation, please chime in.

"13" is the location of the rest hole.

Good luck!

In the troubleshooting section of the DIS Manual, the closest item to your described problem was: "When turning power on, the most recent mode screen is not displayed". I have attached that excerpt for you, though it likely does not help.

With this said, would it be best to change modes to the radio or other options not connected via USB or Bluetooth to eliminate this issue at power down?

I dunno... maybe? OP says he leaves the radio on SXM station XX, and it's set to 0 when he returns. I don't think the troubleshooting description covers that scenario. For me, I used to keep my USB drive connected 24/7, and my phone is always connected via Bluetooth, and that didn't impact my SXM station retaining it's last position. On a side note, the DIS Manual recommends not leaving your USB drive connected due to possible damage to the flash drive at engine start up. I removed mine once I completed copying my music to my jukebox.

I just had another thought. When you park your car, does it still have clear line of sight to the XM satellite? If not, I could see where the system would potentially not return to the default station on start up. Just throwing that out there as a possibility.

Bingo! That is when it happens to me. I park in a parking garage at work and when the Satellite radio can't find "mama", it will sometimes reset to channel 0.

Mine does it too but about once a month. The weird thing is my FM channels stay set?
