  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am researching the 2013 Genesis along with the 2012. I have primarily been set on the 3.8 6cyl but I haven't driven a 8 cyl car yet to truly make a decision.

I am down in tampa,fl, and when i do a search for cars under 30k. i get about 209 matches, the crazy thing to me is that most of them are R-Specs.

Is that normal in other places? Is there an issue with the cars why they seem to be so many available. I am not personally looking to get into one even though they seem to be awesome but i was just curious to see why there are so many to choose from. Also to inform anyone who may be looking for one to come on down to florida.

In canada, they are all 3.8's very few R-Specs.

When I searched for my 2012 R-spec there were only 2 in the entire state (both at the same dealer) so availability seems to ebb and flow.

I suspect R-spec's are on the used car lots because people have traded them in on newer model years. Judging by comments on this board there are a significant number of previous owners who like the new model better.

Some of the MY 2012 RPECS have oil consumption issues. Maybe people are opting to trade them in, instead of going through the multiple Oil Consumption tests in trying to get a new engine.

Yeah I just found it weird that it was just so many available besides to 5.0 v8 and the bigger rims I couldn't really justify it to myself to get that edition over the regular 4.6 there's no cosmetic appeal that makes it stand out

When I went to initiate my deal in mid-April of this year, they did a search for RSpecs (2013) no 2014 in Canada, and across the country, at dealer lots, were 125 6cyl., and only 6 R-Specs, one which was to be mine.

Even my dealer, which has just about the strongest Hyundai sales in Ontario, only saw a handful of RSpecs cross their dealer floor. Most were 6 cyl.

I live in Tennessee and had to go all the way to GA to purchase mine just 2 weeks ago. I work for a Maserati Dealer just have always liked the Genesis but Love the R-Spec. I traded in my 06 300c and now I have the 12 Black R-spec. I haven't notice any issues as of yet and I had my techs in the shop look over the car. If you can afford the insurance I say get the R-Spec.

For some odd reason, when I went to my insurance agent for a quote on my RSpec, she said that it was cheaper than the 6cyl. I wasn't going to argue. And she couldn't tell me why either.

Which is why I bought a 2012 4.6.

I'm still debating between the 2012 or 2013. I like the blue link system in the 2013

Insurance premiums, the part unrelated to driver credit rating and traffic law history, are determined solely by loss numbers - the total amount lost due to crashes, stolen vehicles, comprehensive and the like divided by the number of vehicles involved. Cost to repair is obviously a big part of those numbers. Those are accumulated by manufacturer/model and determine the loss ratio of the vehicle.

It sounds weird but my 2000 Avalon cost more to ensure than my 2011 Santa Fe (new) and the SF cost more than my 2012 R-spec (new).

If you are looking at the 5.0 engine (R-Spec or not), definitely go with 2013 (but 5.0 only available in R-Spec trim for 2013).

I think I'm out of the running for the v8 engine because I don't want to deal with premium gas anymore. In Florida there is so many fluctuations in the cost of gas that I am just going to stick around regular

When I had my 4.6 I never used premium after testing it for a couple of tankfuls for better mileage/power. Hyundai doesn't require it, either.

The 3.8 has as much pep as anybody needs. You wouldn't be disappointed.

I test drove a 3.8 and I enjoyed the power it had. Didn't seem to struggle, I kinda figured the v8 might be overkill

Completly agree, unless you are in the group that still enjoys watching the kid in that WRX jaw drop, when once in a while, you put your foot down at that red light as it turns green..Priceless....:D
