I've seen a few dislikes and complaints about gas mileage, but I feel like I'm getting rather good gas mileage for a 4,295 lb. car.

My Genesis is just a bit over 1,000 miles and I'm averaging right at 22 mpg and got 29 mpg on a road trip to the mountains last weekend.

That is with this my normal driving mode usage:
  • Eco Mode: 50%
  • Normal Mode: 40%
  • Sport Mode: 10%

What are other AWD owners getting? 5.0 and 3.8 responses are both welcome.

Just broke the 2000 mile marker and on a long run got a very respectable 28 MPG measured (29 indicated) at 65 to 75 MPH. Normal mode all the way. Pretty damn good for a such a heavy car with AWD.

Just over 4000 mi and avg is about 24.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I got good mileage on my trip. I probably ate up a lot of gas on the way up the mountain but saved it on the trip down.

In my normal around town and back and forth to work driving (lots of stops), I'm only getting around 20 mpg average if I'm lucky (and sometimes more like 17-19). Just took it on a 400 mile trip that was almost all highway (cruise set at 75 mph - occasionally ventured up to 80+ to pass) and got almost 28 mpg. I think what really drives mileage is how often you are stopping/starting - getting this heavy car up to speed after frequent stops is what kills your mileage. Once it's at speed on a highway, it's not too bad!

I got around 28 MPG on our trip and I was not trying for economy.

I had no illusions that I was going to get stellar millage. It's a big car and the transfer case does suck up energy. I'm happy with it.

highest i've seen was 35 on a 50 miles trip..i normally see 25- 29mpg overall i'm @ 22 going by my fuelly app

I have a RWD 3.8 and I personally drive alot of city. I dont get anywhere near that kind of mileage. My average on a full tank to empty is around 12 mpg and thats on good days.

Wowzers. I do a bit better than that in aggressive city driving with a 5.0.

Are you sitting for extended periods in traffic without moving at all? Total gridlock is one thing that doesn't factor into my mileage.

JonBear,
I have been considering the 6 and live in Los Angeles. But hearing you are only getting 12 mpg would be a deal breaker for me. What do the service folks have to say? Have you spoken to other Genesis owners in the LA area about their experience? What has your dealer sales and service experience been like? If you do not mind sharing who is your dealer?
Thanks,
Steve

I live in SoCal, take back roads to work and have the 3.8 rwd and I'm avg about 22 to 24, I agree with others, if you are going to sit in traffic, it's going to drink gas.

I dont know what to tell you. I had a previous discussion with some people about this problem and some say that it seems about average. I personally believe there is something wrong but the dealership tells me I need 2 oil changes to get full mileage. I complained more and they gave me a little sheet with a basic formula, and its pretty much pointless. Its a average mile per gallon calculator. They told me to fill it out and come back with it, thats as far as ive gotten with them.

From experience, Ive gotten a fairly good experience from all the dealerships (glendale, hardin, puente hills, 101 vermont, commerce). I basically sent everyone a price quote and they all gave me one but the price wasnt anywhere near what I wanted. Puente Hills gave me my 50k OTD for my 3.8 Ultimate. But Im not sure if I recommend them. I would have rather gone to Hardin if the price was right. They offer free oil changes and a bunch of good add ons.

GOsh darn im so jealous.....

Thanks for your response. Let us know if you see an increase in your mileage.
My 1973 Ford LTD got about 12 mpg and a gallon of gas was a bit less back in the day. Best, Steve

I commute in very heavy LA traffic daily (mostly on the 101) and I am consistently getting between 16 and 17 mpg in my 3.8 Ultimate AWD. Not great but not as bad 12 mpg you are getting with 3.8 RWD. I am guessing you must be sitting at red lights a lot?

will do. Im hoping it does but I dont know if it will. ive counted every gas fill and doing the mpg reading manually, and it still comes to 12-13. it has over 1000 miles.

I would think my drive to work wouldnt be any different than being on the 101. I would actually assume it be better.

The one thing i do is try not to be heavy footed, meaning i start slow from a stop where before, i would put my foot down because of the power and i really noticed it makes a difference on my mpg.

I also keep my eco button on, i don't know if it makes a real difference but makes me feel i'm getting some value for my gas :p

We got just under 24 mpg using the ECO button on our 5.0 Ultimate on a road trip back from Orlando. 75% highway/25% city driving.

Was that indicated or actually measured?

Not calculated yet as I have not refilled up the tank as I still have 3/4's of a tank left. I did calculate the first leg of our trip which we used strictly Sport mode and got 19.6 calculated. The cars tracker said we got 19.9. The second leg of our trip was set to normal drive mode and got 20.6 calculated.

I am amazed that a 5.0 can get that kind of gas mileage. I get 12 mpg in my V10 F250 and was just hoping to get 16-17 mpg with the Genesis. I am elated with this kind of mileage and it was all done without the cruise control due to break in period.

I have a 1 month old Manhattan Brown 6 rwd. 2 hour road trip last weekend avg 29.7 mpg!!!!!!!! Around town I am getting 20-21 mpg. I have 1000 miles on odometer. When I fill up the gauge reads over 500 miles to empty!
