  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Why Rebadge trunk lid?

I had my dealer rebadge the car with the Genesis emblem as a condition of the deal prior to me driving off the lot. They told me it would typically cost $200-$500 through the dealer but they agreed to do it for free. I wanted this done because it looks awesome, I am not trying to hide the fact that it is Hyundai, if so, I would have asked them to take off the Genesis lettering as well. I think Hyundai did an unbelievable job with this car (and the Equus), but the Genesis emblem just looks so good. Here is the before and after, and yes, my car was on the showroom floor ;).

^ Maybe it's just reflection or picture quality, but those wings don't look level to me. Driver's side looks lower.

I did mine today. cost me .98 cents plus 13.99 for the badge. I heated the old emblem with a hair dryer and then used my .98 cents pack of waxed dental floss to seperate the old adhesive/emblem from the trunk. I doubled up the dental floss and used a sawing motion under the emblem. It took about 95 percent of the adhesive off with the emblem. I took the rest off with goof-off. I then cleaned the area with a little vinegar and water. Stuck the new emblem on. Total time was about 10 minutes. It's one of the cheapest, nicest, classy mods you can make. There are plenty of vids on youtube. I watched one and then did it. It was very easy. I'm proud of my car anyone that has been in it is now considering purchasing one. With that said, it's not about hiding the fact that it's a Hyundai. It's about making it suit your own tastes. I like the way the cars look overseas...they seem to look just a touch above the way they are delivered in the states. That's why I did it.

Been lurking on the site for a while and you all definitely helped me make my decision to purchase a 3.8 Ultimate Empire State Grey/Black Genesis.

Saw this on the road the other day and thought of this thread.

Is this a joke? You mean the Lexus owner took off the Lexus "L" logo and replaced it with the Genesis winged logo?

Unreal. It would be one thing if it was just the wings but it also says "Genesis". Some people make no sense to me.

I really hope they were desperate to cover some badly repaired rust or something...

If people are going to look down at me because I drive a Hyundai, it says more about them than it does about me. I'm an engineer and the new Genesis exceeded my requirements and came in under budget. When does that happen?
Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm going to become a hypocrite, sort of. Since I've decided to change the look of my Genny by changing the grille, I'm going to rebadge the rear.

Now that my Genny will no longer be stock, I'm going to let the public play the "What kind of car is that" guessing game.

Just thought I'd call myself out before someone else does. :o

When someone asks me what kind of car is that (and that happens quite often) the first thing I say is, That is a Hyundai. Their first reaction is priceless :D Shock, Disbelief an dumbfounded are words that comes to mind describing the looks on their faces. :D I love it...

Yep, that's one of the cool factors of this car. Far and few between not to mention with the H gone almost nobody can identify it. Just yesterday I was on the lift at a tire shop putting on winter boots and several people asked me what brand of car it was. I proudly say Hyundai, the look on their faces is priceless. One guy asked me if it was front wheel drive so I say no, AWD, again priceless. :D

Resistance is futile. Also, "sort of"? -- I call you out! ;)

When visiting my kids in Florida this weekend, my daughter's boyfriend (baby daddy - just shoot me already) asked, and my reply was "You tell me" (He's a bit of a know it all). But normally, I proudly say Hyundai without hesitation.

Now that the topic has been revived, if there were no Hyundai logos on the car by default, BUT instead of the word "Genesis", the words "Hyundai Genesis" were used on the trunk lower left side, would you remove the "Hyundai" letters? The question obviously wouldn't apply to those that completely de-nuded their trunks.

Yes I would and if you had not noticed I even removed the Genesis wording on the trunk which I replaced with the TAU V8. I really like watching the guy behind me at the stop light, squinting while hanging over his steering wheel trying to read the small Genesis inscription on the wings which happens quite often. :D

Well, I qualify it because I'm going to change the look of the car by putting in the wire mesh insert. It is really going to change the look of the car.

Since I admitted to playing a game, the answer would be yes. But I will still keep the name Genesis on it.

To me, that's a shame. Hyundai should advertise the car more. I've seen a couple of ads for the HTRAC on TV but they really don't show off the car. I've seen no print ads and the dealers don't even put the Genesis in their newspaper ads.

Its such a nice car it would sell itself if people only knew it existed.

I see a lot of people say that, but who is going to pay for the ads? TV advertising is extremely expensive, and Hyundai has already paid for several Super Bowl ads for the Genesis (at $3 million for a 30 second spot). They have also advertised on a lot of other shows, but maybe not the ones you watch. But there is only so much one can spend on advertising for a car with limited sales unit potential (compared to high volume cars like Sonata).

Who is going to pay? Typically, there is a per car budget for advertising. The more you advertise the more you sell. The more you sell the more you have for advertising.

Halo cars, which the Genesis should be, set the tone for the whole product lineup.

The decision to re-badge the trunk lid was simply due to the fact that matching the front, steering wheel and wheel emblems makes for a better looking car in my opinion. I also like the look of the Genesis badge over the "H" badge.

I proudly tell everyone who asks that the car is a 2015 Hyundai Genesis, and I rave about the fit, finish, materials, structure, engineering, warranty and price.
