  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Group,
I've got a 2013 R-spec sedan. Has anybody else noticed that the HIGH BEAMS seem a bit wimpy? The auto leveling works great and the low beams cover great. I live in a rural area and it gets very dark. On high beams there seems little change over the lows. Is this typical with everybody? My car is completely stock, on changes at all. I have no complaints save this one.

I've got the same year and model and I don't have this complaint - perhaps you have a headlight issue?

I'd recommend the following: These are what I use in my high beams. They have a higher light output than the stock bulbs.

65W Osram or Flösser Ultra High Output 2100 lumen, H9 burner on H7 base. A normal H7 bulb has an output of 1450 lumens.

Ditto, I find the high beams wimpy on my 2012. That said, my prior 2 cars had bi-xenon HIDs, so that is my reference standard. I had the opportunity to compare bi-xenon and traditional halogen headlights on the same model car and headlight design, and bi-xenon crush old school high beams. So, if you are used to bi-xenon, our high beams stink.

That said, I think that our Honda Odyssey old school high beams are also much better than the Genesis. The Genesis lights to not seem to through the highs as far and as high as other cars.

They do seem weak at times but I think that's the fault of the HIDs. Because the HIDs stay lit when the high beams are turned on, the road right in front of our cars is too bright and our eyes never adjust to pick up the much dimmer light that the high beams are throwing hundreds of yards out in front of the car.

That, mixed with the fact that our high beam reflector is tiny just doesn't provide the best results.

O yeah, this might help; dimming the brightness of your dash lighting really helps the eyes too.

I felt the same about mine. Adjusting the headlight assembly up a bit helped a great deal. I think Hyundai was *very* conservative as to how high they aimed the headlights from the factory. I'm much happier with mine now.

Same as your '13 and I'll say those high beams are wimpy, indeed. I barely use them, so I don't care. HID's are more than enough for me.

Excellent point! I used to always have my dash lights on any car at the brightest setting (thought brighter was better), and what a mistake this was. Anyone who has their dash lights on high should go out for a drive at night and put a hand up close to your head to cover the dash lights. Your night vision will be transformed! The glare from bright dash lights are brutal! This same concept works when watching your TV in the dark - turn on a dim lamp and glare is dramatically reduced.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

Any heat problem with those bulbs?

Ironically you have hit upon my only other complaint. The dash on our cars seems really bright even on the lowest setting. It seems fairly bright or off!

Sylvania SilverStar Ultra are advertised as brighter than most standard bulbs (but aren't very cheap...$50 a pair) H7

SilverStar zXe may not be quite as bright, but are advertised as very white, so should give you a whiter Hi-beam to match the HID low's, and DRL's....$48 a pair H7
.

YES!!! High beams are terrible. Low beams are bright enough, but do not go far enough. May try to raise them as another poster mentioned. I replaced a 2003 Acura TL. I don't know what you'd call the headlights on it, but they were FAR brighter than the Genesis. I just drove mine for the first time at night and was REALLY disappointed with the lighting....

FWIW, in my experience Hyundai seems to be VERY conservative on original headlight adjustment. The dealer raised my 2010 lights to a much better level and I don't remember ever being flashed because of it. I raised them myself in the 2g and have not been flashed in this one either. This pretty much tells me they were quite a bit too low to start with.

I replaced my HID Low beams with the Osram's CBI HID bulbs and replaced my High beams with the Osram's CBI halogen bulbs then raised them a bit higher than stock, just a tad. Difference is night and day.

These cars had/have the best HID projectors in north america (from the factory) hands down. That is why the genesis lights look terrible. I came from a set of handmade headlights (made by me) that were 3000 times better than the genesis lights. But I have to live with what I've got right now I guess

It looks like my headlight bulbs need to be replaced again. They are starting to turn into a yellowish color.

For all of you who want to raise your headlights yourselves, please remember to do it with the engine shut off. Otherwise your are fighting the auto-level system if your car is so equipped
