Genesis Smart Key Card

Re: Gensis Smart Key Card

I was trying to get a reduced cost, if possible for the group. I think there are 5 or more people that are interested in the card and i was hoping to get a group discount.

I ordered mine from Korea on Ebay 2 weeks ago. It still hasn't shown up. Ironically I'm 10 miles away from the new Ebay seller in Fullerton. If it didn't cost two and half bills I'd drive up to Fullerton and get an extra one.

It takes quite a bit time to get stuff from Korea,I ordered a ashtray also 2 weeks ago , still nothing. Ask around maybe someone will buy when your card arrives, if so, buy from local seller and sell the other when it gets here.

I have ordered dozens of items from China and Korea. Delivery is around 3-4 weeks. Once in a blue moon it takes only 2. Be patient, it will eventually show up. ;)

Re: Gensis Smart Key Card

How do you order something directly from Korea?

Gensis Smart Key Card

I got my smart card in the mail today and raced up to Garden Grove Hyundai to have them program it. It was lunch time and I figured I'd drop off the smart card with the key fob and pick it up after grabbing some lunch.

Snag #1 - They need the car to program the smart card.

Snag #2 - The machine to cut the key is at a dealership in Anaheim.

I let them program the card since they told me that only took 30 minutes and they sent the pull out key to Anaheim to be cut without a car I "dined" at a local gas station for lunch. When the Maury show in the waiting room ended I realized it had been 45 minutes. I checked in at the parts counter where I dropped everything off including my ID and proof of insurance to verify ownership. And the guy at the parts counter, a middle aged, heavy set white guy in nylon basketball shorts told me they hadn't programmed the card because I should've gone to service with this not parts. Yet he had everything behind the counter there.

I walked over to service and ran into more trouble.

Snag #3 - Programing a smart card was not in their service computer.

Understandable since this isn't offered in the US. After checking with the technician the service guy says they can do it but 10 minutes later we run into trouble.

Snag #4 - They claim battery isn't in the card.

I pull apart the packaging and everything in the car looking for a tiny battery. They even show me the spot where the battery goes in behind the pull out key. After 10 minutes of searching for a replacement battery they discover the battery is in the card it's just not in the same place as the battery in the Equus card.

Trouble free for 15 minutes until...

Snag #5 - The car won't lock because the new programmed card thinks the key fob is in it.

They bring me back to where the car is and show me that the car won't lock. I assure them that the second key fob is not in the car like they suggest because would've seen it in time I spent searching for the battery for the card.

Just then the tech realizes the passenger door was ajar causing the system to think the key was still in the car. After shutting the door the new card worked fine

Snag #6 - the pullout key that went to Anaheim is too narrow to fit in their key machine.

They tell me they can order a cut pullout key but I'm done at this point.

So after spending over 2 hours at a Hyundai dealership, I have a smart key card that works with an uncut pullout key. And they only charged me $30. It was a learning experience for all involved.

Bumping this thread: anyone still working on this smart card dealio? Just dead as we all distracted by the hols or ...?

Re: Gensis Smart Key Card

Hopefully I didn't scare anyone away from getting the key card. I love the fact that's it's always in my wallet and I have one less thing in my pockets and one less thing to grab off the dresser in the morning.

I've used in for a month now and haven't had a problem. Let's hope it stays that way as the hard key inside the card still isn't cut.

Re: Gensis Smart Key Card

So, I posted my own thread about this and I dont want to thread jack, so kick me out if needed. Does anyone think this will work on a 09-2012? Curious is all

Re: Gensis Smart Key Card

How thick is the Key Card? I ask because i don't carry a wallet, just a card & bill clip.

Re: Gensis Smart Key Card

Just received mine and going to get it programmed this weekend...I would say it's about the thickness of a nickel.

Is that an optical illusion? The edge thickness is similar to a nickel, but the edge is beveled and it looks like the total thickness is larger.

The card is definitely thicker than a nickel. The width below the bevel is about the width of a nickel, as is the width of the bevel. So 2 nickels is a better gauge of the total width. Mine fits nicely in my wallet in a slot for a credit card but it's snug.

I tried to take a picture of the width but it never comes out right. Between the black card, the bevel and the nickels it just doesn't photograph well. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1418601607.428495.webpImageUploadedByTapatalk1418601626.596568.webp

Here it is to compare with CC , its thicker than CC , as thane11 mentioned , almost 2 nickels, or I would say 2 CC. Yes the edge is kinda thin, but the whole card is thicker than the edge.

Smart Key Linking

Is it possible to link the smart keys to the driver memory settings so that one key will be for memory 1 and the other for memory 2? The dealer said it can be done, but I cannot find any instructions.

First things first. Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new ride. There is nothing in the manual regarding this. My guess is your dealer does not know what he is talking about. If you find out otherwise, be sure to pass that information along.

This was offered on the Gen 1 so maybe he is confused with this. To my knowledge it is not an offered feature.
