  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi guys. I have been thinking about getting one of these for a while as I think they are great bang for the buck and the 100k warranty is phenomenal. I would like to know from experience the most common problems associated with the 5.0 r-spec. I also have these specific questions.

1. Is carbon buildup on the intake valves an issue and have you had to get it blasted with walnut shells to fix it yet.

2. Any quirks electrically.

3. What is your average miles per gallon.

4. What aftermarket support is there. Intake, Exhaust, Wheels, Grills.

5. Are there any picks of the chrome blacked out.
Thanks for all the help guys and hopefully I will own one soon.

It's my understanding the 100K warranty is for the original owner only.

Well if that's the case that's ridiculous. That really doesn't make any sense to me.

That's not entirely correct. If you purchase a certified pre-owned vehicle, you can get the rest of the warranty (remaining miles/years, whichever comes first).

In addition, you can get what my dealer called the "wrapper" which makes the remaining warranty bumper to bumper (minus windshield wiper blades and light bulbs) for an additional fee. I believe the wrapper is $1k-1500 but it might depend on the year and mileage.

Just got this validated. Well they just lost a potential customer and it seems kind of underhanded and sneaky. Oh well.

1. Hyundai GDIs are pretty good. I have been following this forum since 2011 and don't recall a single post from anyone reporting problems related to valve carbon buildup. And I recall only one thread by someone who did it for fun.

2. 2012+ are pretty solid electrically. 2013+ can stream bluetooth audio.

3. 15-20 in town, 23-27 on the highway depending on your right foot.

4. Compared to other asian cars popularly modded... not much. Seems that many folks that mess with the exhaust ends up switching back due to drone, or to something else. Lots of posts in the performance mods section.

5. Look on the appearance mods thread, and on korean sites. Lots of stuff around.

Nothing really sneaky about it - Hyundai doesn't run TV adds to try and sell used cars. It's on their website and widely known and can still be had from a dealer via CPO. Significant mods to engine components including exhaust might void a warranty anyway, so I don't understand the concern about the 100k not being transferable if you're really serious about modding an Rspec ... ?

Go get yourself one of these and stop whining!

What other used car comes with 10/100,0000 warranty?

3. If you are concerned about gas mileage then don't buy a car with a big V8 engine, R-spec included.

Don't buy the earlier production month of a 2012 V8. Oil burning issues.

Take it from me. I am living the issue.

But you still can get the warranty. SoCalJay is right, if you get a CertPreOwned you can get the remaining warranty AND tack on the extended warranty.
