  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Side mirrors while reversing question

With all the sensors this car has, no worries locating the curbs anymore... :D

I tried to manipulate the mirrow switch but no matter what mirrors tilt down
when in R. I there is no ajustment I would prefer for mirrors to stay up and ajust either one myself based on a situation. The other similar thing is I would like the driving mode stay as chosen after car was turned off and started again. Same for navigation screen, I like to have it off. Maybe as the model matures H will make some changes.

You CAN stop the mirrors from tilting down in reverse. Read the manual - it's all there on page 38 in section 3!

*Sigh* Would that were true .... I STILL find I not-infrequently-enough run over the curb, usually on the right ...

And you have the Parking Assist button on?

Tilting down doesn't bother me, but what does bother me is after it tilts back up, mirror position becomes ever so slightly downwards from its original position. Over the period of many reverses, I end up redjusting side mirrors, almost once a week, it seems like. Mercedes did this as well, quite annoying. Lexus always tilted backup to exactly where they were.

Seeing that most of us don't keep our car and owners manuals next to our computers perhaps you could paraphrase and share what you've looked up on page 38, section 3 :grouphug:???

There is an e-manual you can download - In the time it took you to post here, you could have already looked it up yourself

Oh, my Gosh. Here I was about to buy this thing only to find out both mirrors tilt in reverse. Thank goodness for this forum, I've avoided a tragically bad purchase decision.

Actually, on my old one I considered it an irritant, but never thought of trying to disable it.

Is flipping an ON/OFF selector switch so difficult? "Shirley" you must be joking.

Hmm. You know ... I don't turn the Parking Assist ON ... I guess to me PARKING issues occur when REVERSING and then the Parking assist is turned on by default as I shift to reverse.

I WILL get a beep warning if I am too close to the curb when fronting into my space and ya know the fence is at a distance .... I think maybe as I think on it the issue may be that the Park Assist turns OFF at "speed" and in my mind these curb interactions occur when I'm moving at somewhat of a clip and am making a turn - almost always to the right - and perhaps as I'm so bloody short I sit and keep the seat low enough that even without the age I'm like that classic lil' ole lady I hope to live to be someday that can barely see over the hood?

Maybe I did not get The manual - I got two thick ones named "Navigation/Manual", and a thin one , a quick reference guide.
Mirror operation is not in there.
oh well, will talk to dealer.
Thanks for the help.

I hate it when people on a forum direct you to read the manual or tell you to use the search function which is more a waste of everyones time and bandwidth than giving the answer. A forum is to help others and become instructed by the help of others and discuss ideas.

That being said. The mirror selector needs to be off to turn off the deflection option. To select a mirror you simply select the appropriate one which turns on a blue light at the switch showing confirmation. The mistake most likely made is you selected the other mirror which serves the same function when it comes to deflecting however this does not turn the mirrors off. Simply push the illuminated button which will turn it off and now the mirrors will deflect. In others words, both indicator lights need to be off.

I don't mind helping with answers from the manual and even posting screen shots (and I have on many occasions). However, I do this when it is not an obvious answer/somewhat vague, hard-to-find item (as you can see in the recent thread on SiriusXM tagging). But... what I hate is when people on a forum don't even make an effort to look up pretty basic functions that are easily found in the manual. So statements like "I tried to manipulate the mirror switch but no matter what mirrors tilt down" and concluding that's it without even trying to look it up in the manual? - As I said, it came with your car, you can access it through the AV system and you can download a e-copy! What more do people need?

Parking Assist button is located next to the control knob on the console labeled "P". If you turn it on once, it remains on all the time. So the next time you start the car, it will be on. There is a light next to it that is blue indicating that it is on. Hope this helps...

I have this exact same problem, only on the driver's side. Annoying as hell! Anyone got this fixed?

It wouldnt bother me so much if my car went to it's seat/mirror memory setting every time i got into my car like others brands do, but I actually have to press the memory key in park to bring the mirror back to my setting..

This is still a problem?? My 2009 does this as well.

Also, it doesnt matter where i put the steering wheel, its going to automatically go to where it wants to be. Is that still an issue?

On our 15's if you select either mirror they both move down. I think earlier models you could select which one moved.
