I'll be very curious to see what your findings are; I posted a similar side-by-side comparison between the 9500 and an older V1; my new V1 arrives tomorrow.
New V1 will beat the older designed 9500 in pure radar performance.. Hands down. I have been using V1 since Michael Valentine sold Cincinnati Microwave (now is Escort). Getting them updated as they have upgrades. For decades the V1 was king, period.
That has changed. The fully current V1s we have are not as good as the Max, period. Max rules, V1 drools when looking at straight performance. Take a tick off for the lack of 360 notification from the V1. I got over it. Take more ticks off for the ridiculous control buttons of the Max (or of the 9500). The V1 rules for simplicity and eyes on the road ability to adjust (if ever needed) and manage.
However... The Max is better, period. Did I mention that already? And what totally sinks the V1 is the Live app from Escort. It is amazing. Fully automated, adds self reporting and detector reporting on the map. Which can be adjusted from macro situational awareness to micro SA. And easy to manage the features of the Max through this interface (eyes on the road). The Live system has great features on SA for the types and frequencies, timing, of the radars reported or being reported/seeing live.
I find the Max specific GPS based enhanced dealing with FCC approved non police radars to blow away the V1. Also, the cops who try to sneak in those zones of noise are picked out, not hidden by the GPS based filtering. This is a false claim (that the Max will not alert of real police radar when within the GPS feature that has eliminated false readings) made by the Mikester himself. Shame shame.
The latest V1 update does a decent job (finally) filtering out auto based radar. Especially Porsche. Michael does own Panamera after all... V1 was a mess around Audis. That seems to have been fixed for the most part. Max can be fooled once in a blue moon by radar systems in cars.
The expert meter on the Max had been a big help lately. In my state, the coy cops have gone back to brand new K band radars. With the settings, I easily see the different frequencies of the new K band radars.. With V1, no suck feature unless using the meter app on a phone.
The quality of the remote control on the direct wiring is much better on the Max (or 9500 I would suspect too). Same for cigarette lighter version. I do NOT like the fixed cord length of the Escort system. Especially the cigarette plug.
Living with 2 Max for more than a year, the quality is good on the units, especially for as much plastic as they use. V1, no one can argue the design quality of it.
IF you never want to use the Live app, and have a older 9500, your new V1 will be better solution for you.
