Radar Detectors

I'm curious how Waze is compared to Escort Live.

A lot of that depends on the participation rate. There are a *lot* of people running Waze, so the reporting tends to be current and accurate. In central North Carolina, when I fire up Waze, it tells me usually more than 300-400 people in my area running Waze.

how data intensive are the Escort Live and Waze apps? I am wondering if they chew up a lot of the monthly data limit for those of us with limits on how much data we get each month.

I was worried about the same with Waze, and watched the data usage when I first installed it. I run with Waze on all the time when I drive. Checking the data usage on my Nexus 5, for Oct 20-27, Waze was the 4th biggest data user at 13.00MB. Compare this to Google+ at 459MB, and Facebook at 114MB. And I'm not a heavy Facebook user. After a while, I stopped watching Waze, it was never heavy enough to worry about.

For Ka band long range nothing beats a band segment Redline, next is a V1 with V1 connect. If you have a android phone you can get YaV1 which does some amazing things with the V1 that belscort products can't even touch. Go to several

Daily heavy use, (sines days 5 hours or more) adds just under 240MB a month.

Deal of the day on Amazon is the 9500ix blue display for $310. I picked one up. Just a heads up.

Howdy, y'all!!

I got a Passport Max. After a fair amount of research I decided this would be the way for me. I had the Max installed in my car......meaning the detector is mounted on my mirror and the power is hidden...all in all a professional effort. Definitely better than a cord flopping all over my dash. As for smartphone app's....meh....don't need more distractions as I drive, look at an iPhone, make phone calls, drive, etc.....A detector is there for me to give me a tap on the shoulder...just in case. Laser....different problem. Narrower " beam " that is tough. I'm happy with my purchase...but I'm only one guy and am looking for other's input / results....I get to learn every day....

I was wondering, how do the Max and the V1 systems deal with the collision avoidance / active cruise systems on both the Genesis and other cars? Any custom settings needed (ie deactivating X or K bands?)? I'm aware the Valentine is allegedly lousy with filtering false alarms... didn't know if it was worse with the Genesis systems as well?

Suggestions for mirror-level mounting systems for the max? V1? Hard wiring into the mirror power or elsewhere?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

I cannot speak for the Max or V1, but I have not had any false alarms form my car's ACC and my Passport 9500ix. I do not think that the 1st generation Genesis is a problem. Other cars that cause false alarms would be the same in the Gen as anywhere else-- that said, I do not seem to get many unexplained false alarms with my 9500ix. Now and then, when I get a get a recurring K band blast while driving along a highway, I assume it is potentially another car, but I do not know for sure.

As a matter of practice, I drive with X band off. But, you want to know what the LEOs use in your area before making that setting. I am thinking about turning off K band, but I think that is still in occasional rural use in my area.

I have the BlendMount on my mirror, and it is excellent. There are a couple good threads here with pictures and descriptions of mirror mounting.

FYI for some. Indiana local, county and state ARE going back to a new K band radar. Be careful. Almost fooled me the first time. However the Max picked it up excellent. It was me that doubted it. Wrong. Anyway, since then new K band are popping up like crazy.

Also, back in Ohio... Believe it or not, some of them have window mount (outside), new X band. Just like the old days with the famous MR-7 from Kustom Signals. Just experienced on running last week. These are new units.

RADAR DETECTION:
I have a Escort Passport MAX I'm purchasing used from a buddy for $325 (great deal, IMO). I've purchased the Direct Wire Smartcord Live for hard-line install and bluetooth interactivity with the Live App. I'm not sure where I'm going to place the small "Live" module yet... any suggestions?

I'm also borrowing a buddy's new-ish Valentine One to run side by side as a comparison for a week or so around town.

IPHONE MOUNTING
For mounting my iPhone I went with the ProClip Left Mount for the A-Pillar, with the iPhone 6 Hard Wired Cradle to hold the phone while I drive.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO:
I've also gone with the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038MA11U/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1"]Miccus Bluetooth Audio Receiver[/ame] set up in the console (USB port for power with 3.5mm AUX Jack for audio input. I'm a music snob but have been pleasantly surprised with the audio quality.

There is a VERY subtle difference between BT Audio and hard wired from my iPhone 6... but it's not noticeable unless you're actively listening for it, and even then it's barely there. It's a 15 second install and only runs $30. Significant step up from dealing with the clutter of headphone cords.

So.... now my Phone will pair with the Genesis head unit for calls, the Miccus BT Audio unit to stream music, and the Escort Passport Max for the Escort LIVE radar software:)

I have X-band disabled on my Escort Solo S3, but I've never had false K or Ka band alarms from my car. I did once have multiple K, Ka and SWS (generic CAUTION, no details) warnings while following an A7. They seemed to happen whenever a car was in front of him. They stopped as soon as I passed him. I turned around and drove back the other way, and there was nothing there (no warnings at all, no cops). I doubt that his car's signals being reflected off of other cars could cause my detector to alarm, but I don't think it's impossible.

Just got my 2015 Genesis Ultimate. Has anyone used the wiretap to power their radars from the rear-view mirror??

I was able to take the plastic shroud off. Here is the pic of the power cable to the rearview mirror. Can someone a lot smarter than me tell me which cable I should use to power my radar??

Here you go. This is for a 2014 Genesis. (Hyundai Tech Info does not have 2015 info up yet.) The wiring should be the same. I would still test with a multi-meter just to be sure.

Thanks, i found it in another thread.

Red wire goes to #10(positive) and Black wire goes to #8(ground).

Works, but i need a longer cable. Its a little tight with the one i have.
My V1 is going crazy. The rear K band arrow is always on. I'm gonna send it in to Valentine to see if the update will fix the false positives.

Keep us updated on your V1. I have my V1 suction cupid to the center bottom of windshield. I did not get many false positives. My unit is 4 yrs old and has not been updated yet. Nor can I use my android phone to monitor arrows. I want to hardwire it with remote monitor so it is dark no lights.

Will do. Mine is about 4 years old. To use the Android app, you need to buy the BluetoothV1 Link adapter and I think it will only work fully with the V1's that says ESP under the power button.

I'll be very curious to see what your findings are; I posted a similar side-by-side comparison between the 9500 and an older V1; my new V1 arrives tomorrow.

New V1 will beat the older designed 9500 in pure radar performance.. Hands down. I have been using V1 since Michael Valentine sold Cincinnati Microwave (now is Escort). Getting them updated as they have upgrades. For decades the V1 was king, period.

That has changed. The fully current V1s we have are not as good as the Max, period. Max rules, V1 drools when looking at straight performance. Take a tick off for the lack of 360 notification from the V1. I got over it. Take more ticks off for the ridiculous control buttons of the Max (or of the 9500). The V1 rules for simplicity and eyes on the road ability to adjust (if ever needed) and manage.

However... The Max is better, period. Did I mention that already? And what totally sinks the V1 is the Live app from Escort. It is amazing. Fully automated, adds self reporting and detector reporting on the map. Which can be adjusted from macro situational awareness to micro SA. And easy to manage the features of the Max through this interface (eyes on the road). The Live system has great features on SA for the types and frequencies, timing, of the radars reported or being reported/seeing live.

I find the Max specific GPS based enhanced dealing with FCC approved non police radars to blow away the V1. Also, the cops who try to sneak in those zones of noise are picked out, not hidden by the GPS based filtering. This is a false claim (that the Max will not alert of real police radar when within the GPS feature that has eliminated false readings) made by the Mikester himself. Shame shame.

The latest V1 update does a decent job (finally) filtering out auto based radar. Especially Porsche. Michael does own Panamera after all... V1 was a mess around Audis. That seems to have been fixed for the most part. Max can be fooled once in a blue moon by radar systems in cars.

The expert meter on the Max had been a big help lately. In my state, the coy cops have gone back to brand new K band radars. With the settings, I easily see the different frequencies of the new K band radars.. With V1, no suck feature unless using the meter app on a phone.

The quality of the remote control on the direct wiring is much better on the Max (or 9500 I would suspect too). Same for cigarette lighter version. I do NOT like the fixed cord length of the Escort system. Especially the cigarette plug.

Living with 2 Max for more than a year, the quality is good on the units, especially for as much plastic as they use. V1, no one can argue the design quality of it.

IF you never want to use the Live app, and have a older 9500, your new V1 will be better solution for you.
