  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have been noticing a sound/noise while pushing my foot on the paddle when accelerating "normally and gently" between 110 kmph to 120 kmph in my new 2015 Genesis.

Below and above those speeds, everything is Ok.

Please advise.

Thanks,
Husam

Does it sound like VAROOOOOOM?

The description is a bit vague. There’s quite a bit of attention to detail needed to accurately make an assessment or even a guess. Things like which part of the car it appears to come from (front, back, engine etc.). If you open the windows is the sound louder and more easily identifiable. Please excuse any sarcasm as it is a part of the forum experience.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The noise comes as follows:

- when driving in a normal acceleration between 110 kmph to 120 kmph.
- the noise comes regardless of the AC off or on.
- the noise is like the sound of a speeding fan.
- opening the windows is completely helpless because the sound of the air-cut-off overrules the sound I am referring to.
- the sound/noise comes from the front side of the car (probably in front of the driver somehow through the engine cabin or something like that).

Hope this clarifies; and i am so thankful if you could look into it and give me your thoughts please.

Thanks,
Husam

Have you tried various ac settings (Defrost, Face, Feet) to see if it is possibly the duct work that directs the airflow?

Yes i did. I even switched off the AC completely and it still throws the same noise under the same scenario. Any chance it could be the differential??

Thank you,

Try putting it in manual mode and see if the same sound appears then. Does it seem to happen at a particular shift point?

It is possible that the electric engine cooling fan is cutting in when it shouldn't. Faulty censor controlling that fan. Take it to the dealership and they can read the recent codes.

Since it seems independent of the HVAC it may be an induction resonance.

Experiment a little with different throttle openings by varying how far down you push the accelerator when moving through that speed range.

See if the noise persists regardless of how much gas (air) you give the engine.

- Testing it in manual transmission mode - not yet tested; will do so today and I will report back.
- I tried with different throttle openings, and the sound is still there; however, when you throttle hard (kick-down), the sound is gone.
- I also want to mention that the sound only came after the dealer has fixed the wheel alignment and wheel balance; but this is not conclusive since I before then, I didn't hit the 110 kmph speed since the dealer instructed me not to exceed 100 kmph during the 1st 1000 km mileage. After that, I gave the car back to the Dealer workshop that they've changed the oil/filters and I told them about the wheel alignment issues; then they've done it and gave it back to me.

Any idea?

Thanks,

Probably not a vacuum leak or you would have another symptom, rough idle etc.

Could be something with the throttle body. Dealer will figure it out if you can replicate the problem for him.

Doesn't seem likely you will get any more help here since sounds are hard to diagnose from the internet.

I have experienced what I'll call a whine when accelerating under load. The whine starts around 62 to 65 mph. I first noticed while in cruise on a hilly road with cruise set at 65 mph. I can repeatedly duplicate the whine by shifting into manual shift, shifting into 7th gear, accelerating upward to 62 mph while car is under a load (accelerating up a hill). The whine peaks and then decreases as the speed moves past 65 mph. What was happening while set at 65 mph cruise was that the car was downshifting to 7th gear and the whine would be introduced as the vehicle was accelerating, attempting to keep the car at 65 mph.

I've mentioned this to my dealer and the service manager has duplicated the same whine in two other cars. I'm still working with the dealer on this issue. I would be interested in others trying this and posting their experiences.

So in order to help others, could you please tell us the Model you have?? i.e. V6 V8???

Sorry, should have included these details. It is a 2015 Genesis Sedan, 3.8, with signature package. I would estimate that the frequency of the whine is around 1500 Hz; just a guess. It sounds like it could be a resonance peak. It disappears below the speed and above, which is what you would think a resonance sound to do.

I've noticed a noise when I dip into the throttle in my V8 and it gets exponentially louder as I pass 80 - 90 - 100 - 110 MPH. It comes from the passenger seat and sounds like a woman screaming. :D

It's an easy fix, but not cheap.

That's exactly what's happening in my case; I took it to the dealer and they haven't figured it out completely; but after the car servicing; they've replaced the oil and the filters and tightened the break pads and cleaned them up. The resonance sound in my car now lessened but i could still hear it. I will have to take it back to the dealer as well.

Please do let me know if you figure out a reason for this.

Its same engine model, 2016 v6 3.8 RWD. I have test driven another car but the resonance sound is not present.

Thank you,

Press on the brake pedal :D
